Sol Soliloquises: The Shattering
#1
A lot can happen in an IC year, and a lot can happen when fullscale war is stirring up and the world is exploding. So with that in mind, here's a list of my characters and their fates come Cataclysm.

Here To Stay
Jared Richter
Jared's profile will be receiving a rewrite as I reevaluate the character's priorities and role, but his personality will remain intact and his history will remain as it is. He will be experiencing no retcons in the switchover unless someone wants to erase their interactions with him. He will continue to lead the Black Harvest well into the Shattering, working in conjunction with the Forsaken war machine as they seek to secure Lordaeron for their cause.

Voragh Angermaw
I recognise that I've done a few things wrong with Voragh, and I'm taking this as a chance to try and put 'em right. So, he'll be receiving a minor retool. I'll be making small adjustments to elements of his backstory (and personality) to reflect my better grasp on orcish culture and their racial mentality. His history will also be modified to incorporate the two children of his I retroactively introduced, and I'll furthermore be elaborating on how he spent his years with the Cartel. Rather than having been a slave, and then a free gladiator, he'll have also forayed into mercenary work and piracy. Moreover, his 'redemption', such as it is, will be well underway, in that he'll be fighting for the Horde full-time in the Barrens . . . in a Horde that's suddenly a whole lot more in line with his skewed idea of 'honour'.

Dhorgun Burntbow
Dhorgun's really starting to take shape and substance as a character of late, growing beyond his initial concept of a cerebrally-inclined runt of an orc struggling to make his name and earn the respect of his peers. I may end up making him a shaman, in spite of the name he's chosen for himself, and I think he'll have to do some long, hard thinking about his role in the Horde and his loyalty to the Warsong clan in light of Garrosh's leadership.

Ul'wey
Ul'wey's also matured a lot as a character from his initial incarnation as a traumatised slave. You can count on him and Chit making some appearances in Cataclysm.

Askari Ambershine
Kril is keeping Eve, so I'll be keeping Kari. Her history will be retooled to better elaborate on the extent of her traumas, disabilities and complexes and to seem a little less grimdark. She may even have healed some, but she will remain a disfigured, vindictive harpy of a woman, even if Evrana's positive influence might temper her criminal tendencies some.

Kaerith Sabersong
Although I'm aware that our policy on runemasters or at least what they can do may shift when we make the changeover, I intend to preserve Kaerith in some way, shape or form if I'm able. She's barrels of fun to play and she'll definitely remain on my character roster in some aspect.

Orthander
This silent warrior of the Light will have a lot more judgments to pass on the world and a lot more holy work to do when the Shattering hits. So long as Caravan preserves Ashaila, I'll be keeping him, although I may slightly adjust the terms of his oaths and vows to free him up a little more for idle RP.

Quintric Rotorwrist
Quintric will continue on his doomed quest to mathematically quantify arcane power and develop magical technology for the betterment of all Azeroth, although I might shift his focus to be less 'Enlightenment-era scientist' and more 'industrialist in the Victorian sense' to generate RP events or 'gentleman adventurer' via the Explorers' League.

Stephen Lachlan
Always a pleasure to play, Lachlan is one of my favourite characters for how little time I've spent on him, and remains today the only one I've used in Skype RP. I think I'll be giving his history a minor rewrite just to get a few things into gear but he'll remain largely the same smooth-talking quick-witted friar who knows far more than he lets on.

So Long, Farewell

Katrianne Weaver
A meek, blind, frail, useless waif of a corpse can't survive a global subapocalypse. Little Katie will meet the true death alone, scared, and desperately seeking absolution from a Light that won't answer her prayers.

Sigismund
Apart from a few interactions with JosieNoelle's Edia, Sigismund just didn't work as a character, fun as he was. I'll be folding elements of his personality and history into Matherand's (see below) and freeing up my DK slots. Addled in the mind and misanthropic as he was, he'll find a place in the Twilight's Hammer cult and be trying to kill you all off-screen.

Eltharias Everstar
Now, I know I've barely played Eltharias as is, but there's a reason for that. As fascinated as I am by his story and his concept, he just doesn't engage me for day-to-day roleplay, and chances are he's getting scrapped. I presume he will die heroically in battle against the Horde advance in Ashenvale, happy to at last reunite with his beloved shan'do in the hereafter. My objective in the meantime is to get as much RP done on him with the Ironravens to ensure that his death has some kind of meaning and impact. If I decide I like playing him through that, I may keep him, but it's not likely.

Domasi Spearhorn
Another character I was never certain of my standing with. I haven't played this Spirit Champion enough to truly invest in his story and his mindset, so I shed no tears in letting him go. He will perish in the destruction of Camp Taurajo in the Barrens. I apologise to Muhaha, who plays his brother.

Serethe Sunshroud
Serethe was made for a guild that never really got off the ground on its own feet, and I believe Muhaha might be scrapping Aulten altogether, so I doubt there'll be another attempt. Serethe, a sin'dorei theologian who specialised in documenting the religious practices of the old kaldorei, the Amani and early humanity before twisting her knowledge towards harnessing the Shadow, will join the Reliquary as a cultural consultant in their archaeological expeditions and remain offscreen.

Sheckley Scribblestorm
The fast-talking sleazeball reporter will finally succumb to drunken guilt about falsifying his credentials as a war veteran to publish and sell bogus memoirs following the deaths of his friends in the Second War. He will sign up as a frontline correspondent for Operation: Gnomeregan and be killed in action when his rifle jams at an inopportune moment.

Ragralf Grimgild
With the Dark Iron and the Bronzebeard Clans reconciling most of their differences with the union of the dwarven nations under the Council of Three Hammers, I imagine Ragralf will lose much of his driving internal conflict, and he was made for a storyline that I'm unsure will be happening anyway.

Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Mercy Dellavere
Mercy'll be going one of two ways in Cataclysm, if she goes through at all: the Comtessa Merciara de la Varre of Crestfall, who I'll be using to run events in Tol Barad and in the Alliance's colonial expansion into Kalimdor, a few years older than the Mercy we know, more well-adjusted and with an infant child, having seized her vengeance on her family and finally claimed the title she thought was rightfully hers; or Mercedes Laverne, a merchant working out of Stormwind with an interest in 'eclectic' artefacts. Either way, for reasons most familiar with the character will understand, she'll be undergoing significant retcons of her in-game RP history, and that's if I decide the character is worth keeping at all.

Ciaphas Seregon
I'm not sure if blood elves will have much to do in the Cataclysm. His continued existence depends on whether anyone else who plays a Seregon is interested in taking their character forward.

Castor Rookwood
Not sure where else Castor's development can take him that'd interest me. I might have him die or go home following the Cataclysm.

Matherand Torraine
Matherand, Matherand, Matherand. Wacky fun to play. As I mentioned above, if I decide to keep him, I'll be folding in personality and backstory elements from Sigismund, but he'll remain fundamentally the same scoundrel, liar and cheat that he was before. I may or may not retcon his Whiteshore antics, and I'll probably scrap all the shenanigans surrounding his sword and his interest in the occult.

New Kids In Town . . .

Theodore Ramsay, Captain of the First Gilnean Expeditionary Rifles, 'the Far Marks'.

Caulbrec Cloudsplitter, Wildhammer Spirit Champion.

Tawoda Tallstrider, Sunwalker.

And watch this space.

Blood elves get to begrudgingly work together alongside the Silver Covenant and Darkspear trolls to beat the pants off of the Zandalari uprising, so there's that.

For Castor, I'm kinda hoping he'll stick around for the Argent stuff in Cataclysm. And to reflect on what those damn dirty forsaken are doing.

And Matherand, he's always welcome to be Cristovao's bro! I hope he sticks around if just because he's a damn fun character to RP with.
Your stories will always remain...

... as will your valiant hearts.

One thing is definitive for me: Keep Matherand. The way he and Markuss bonded was odd, albeit fun. Fisticuffs after comments on Markuss' daughter, reconciling afterwards. I'd say this fellow has a big future ahead of him, if he stays.
