ABOUT PENUMBRA

In the cracks of societies dominated by singular faiths, there will always be those malcontents that become frustrated with the status quo. Often, these souls will resign to live their lives in silence, with no alternative of faith beyond that which their peers continually press into their conscience. These people have had no hope.

Penumbra seeks to calm the minds of those who experience such pain. An alternative to the Light, or Elune, or the Spirits, it offers a different faith entirely: the Shadow. For so long, the Shadow has been suppressed and condemned by various institutions throughout Azeroth, but Penumbra does not preach the psychotic, deranged Shadow that lingers in the minds of so many.

It preaches the furthering of the self and introspection, looking inward for strength. It preaches that the Shadow listens, and the Shadow will answer your pleas. It preaches the value of power, while also warning of the dangers it may bring. It seeks to prove the Shadow's worth, and provide solace to those that seek it.

Only time will tell if their intent is legitimate or merely a ruse.

WHO MAY JOIN

All races are welcome in the ranks of Penumbra. It does not matter what your heritage is. It only matters that you have an open mind and a willingness to learn. Certain professions are lesser suited toward joining Penumbra, however--paladins and certain sects of priests are too heavily indoctrinated to appreciate the Shadow without bias. Shamans and druids may also frown upon the so-called violation of the natural order, and therefore, for the most part, are not welcome.

RANKS OF PENUMBRA

Acolyte: Initiates into the family of Penumbra, acolytes are simply those who follow the tenets of Shadow within Penumbra. They have no special privileges, but are an essential component of the organization. Without acolytes, there would be no grounding for the faith.

Shade: Shades are chosen from particularly talented, willing, or eager acolytes that wish to provide more to the Shadow than simple adherence to its tenets. They have more influence, but that influence comes coupled with responsibilities. They are primarily tasked with traveling to cities and spreading the word of the faith to those that live there in a discrete, unobtrusive, and non-violent fashion.

Hand: Shades that prove themselves trustworthy may be invited to become Hands of Penumbra. The Hands have more important and sensitive duties, undergoing operations that Shades could not be trusted with. They are the primarily means through which Penumbra influences its surroundings, and are not to be trifled with.

Harbinger: The inner workings of Penumbra are overseen by a select group known as the Harbingers. They administrate the organization, and are typically chosen from the most capable and charismatic of members in Penumbra. They are given leeway to undertake their own tasks and projects within Penumbra, even so far as using Penumbra's resources for their own ends.

Mistress: The Mistress of Penumbra is the leader in both politics and faith. She presides over the Harbingers and mediates them, and has the final say on decisions they make.

IC AND OOC RULES

IC: Members of Penumbra are expected to show tolerance, both toward alternative views of the Shadow and toward other faiths. The Forgotten Shadow is considered an ally. Other faiths may not be desirable, but you can prove that you are better than they are by refusing to stoop to their level. The strength you exert is far greater through being immovable than it is through lashing out at them. Unjustified violence toward others reflects poorly upon your character, and will result in your removal from Penumbra. Additionally, any who do not show internal respect among the order will not last long within its numbers.

OOC: Server rules and policies always apply. In addition to this, one must remember that the guild exists to provide a positive RP experience, both to the members internally and to other players. Reckless harassment of other players through in character actions will not be tolerated. Even though the guild is dedicated to Shadow, the actions of our characters still reflect upon us OOC, and they affect others as well. Being evil does not give you a free pass to be a jerk.

Seriously, though, tell me more about their tenants and beliefs, goals, members, etc.

Member list will remain undisclosed due to the nature of the guild. Wouldn't want people to hunt the members, would we? (And do correct me if my logic doesn't work.) I will say, however, that this is a very new guild/idea, so we have almost no members besides me as of the moment. Hence, posting on the forums to garner interest.

The tenets of the sect of Shadow that Penumbra preaches works a little more like a philosophy than a true religion, but it has aspects of both, certainly. It preaches the furthering of the self and introspection, looking inward for strength. It also preaches the Shadow in a manner similar to the Light, in that it is considered to be a semi-sentient force that will bestow power unto you if you approach it with the proper mind set.

Current goals simply consist of spreading the faith of Shadow and converting more members, though it is quite possible that the guild will come to odds with the Light and with Elune--in fact, I see that happening very easily, especially considering the mindset of Penumbra. It heavily implies that the Light and Elune are oppressive, and that the lack of flexibility in society is a detriment. So, they will likely end up clashing in the future. I have various ideas regarding how the guild might develop.

More people preaching the true faith? /cheer

May you have more luck with fine words and persuasion than we do with edged weapons and frothing at the mouth. Great to see these guys coming back.

Noria might actually be against this if she found out.

Silly faiths, acquire arcane. Now do as you please.

My God, I am debating whether to re-turn Orkhan/Uphus into a death knight. Or better yet, remake him! I have just one question, though: what server time(s) will the events likely be held? It all depends on that!

So much pressure! My personal time zone is EST, but I'll likely schedule events to coordinate best with the guild members—likely starting between 15:00 and 22:00 server time (which means end points between roughly 18:00 and 1:00), since that's what works for me personally. Personal storylines are, of course, subject to completely different times, depending on what works between you (or anyone else) and me, personally.

Don't forget the Red Rose is an ally who may help any member here, if I'm not mistaken :3

A small bump. This guild still exists, guys. The best way to join in if you're interested is to arrange some sort of RP with Therai, though this guild is fairly small and not really up to much right now.

The OP has been updated slightly to better describe the beliefs of the guild.
