EBON BLADE EVENTS!
#1
Just making this short and sweet. This is for the participants of all the Ebon Blade events. Throw ideas, likes, dislikes everything in here. It will only help me progress as an online DM. I have DM'd a lot of table top story rich campaigns but this is my first online. Thank you and bless all for supporting.

Alright, this was the first event I've had with ya, but I was late and joined around half way through, so storywise, I dunno how you did.

But! Combat wise, it was stale. Way to general. "Roll for attacks, roll for defense" there was no actual input in the combat side of it. We had to roll, but the rest was up to us to do. Which is cool, but at the same time, it sucks. And it really sucked cause sometimes I felt my emotes were worthless. Drez jumped onto the DK's back and stabbed his shoulders for three rounds of combat, but nothing was done with it. People hacked at it's legs, but nothing happened. He took damage, but it wasn't shone in the least bit. Way too many marcos my friend. You were too far ahead of yourself with planning them. You may have wanted the event to go one way, but it could have easily gone the other, so your marco's would seem odd and out of place sometimes. And finally, the defenses. -Everyone- had to roll of defenses no matter what. even if there was just two geists left who could only attack one person each. You looked -way- over this fact and called it good.

Simplified version? Put more thought in your combat. Don't have everyone spam attacks and defenses, and give each person a response to their attacks. If you don't, all you give is the feeling of 'It doesn't matter what I do, the thing'll get hurt and that's the end of it, so /e cuts." That's how I felt. I understand that it's a pain to do so, but not doing so just leaves some people going "Why did I go to this? I didn't make a difference what so ever. Some basic NPC would have had more input then I could.."

That's not really a simplified version above, seems I'm rambling off, but sometimes it's best to cover all you can. When it comes to combat, give each and every person attention with it. The last fight you really only gave yourself that kind of attention that everyone else should have had.

Other then that, from what I could make out of the story having never been to the others and only been in the last part of this one, it seemed solid. Keep the story going, but please, give people attention. They did choose to go to your event after all.

Thing is Kage, you missed the beginning. You missed the immersion of the story, you missed the fact that it was stated if you weren't by anything you didn't have to roll. Others rolled just to make it fair or fun if they were still alive and used their own creativity to dictate how they'd be attacked and by whom. Some people were hit by non represented npcs. The spawns were there for a visual and a guide not sole representations.

I also disagree with having turn based roll fighting with every individual, the event would've took an additional 2 hours and wouldn't represent the chaos and speed that is a mass battle. In fighting scenes each roll is suppose to be anywhere from half a second to several and the turn by turn bad guy vs good guy is too long through a party greater than six people. The pre-written attack and defense did make stale but I think he did emote and then have a roll at the end which I suggest happens more often. I think the usage of Sucks commonly seems a bit of rage because as you were in the Raid chat asking for clarification you received it, and still stated your confusion. I think you had to be in the event since the beginning. I got a phone call so I couldn't make it during the end but I believe you should've left the event like I left the Conclave because I didn't join in the beginning. If you're that lost you should just step out.

I'd give the event 5-7/10 from what I experienced varying for different reasons, the fact the whole event was structured with mob placement and corrosponding to the story and the macros was a good touch and thanks to the GM staff it was able to be pulled off. There were some kicks in the chain but the event from what I experienced was more succesful than a failure. IMO

I really appreciate the feedback guys. I started playing with my macros so now the drudging attack/defense macros will only be used on the "jobber" mobs and I'll try to give them some more flare every now and again, might take a sec during the event as I rewrite the macros and what not. However from now on for my bosses and raid bosses I will attempt to emote for them to make the combat more alive for those of you participating. Also I told this to the first group who participated in the first event, the more a character shows up to the events the more in depth I will place them in the storyline. I've written 3 acts for this event line and I've been working on another after this storyline is finished (thank you Rowgen for sparking my creativity again with the Deadeye's I look forward to the new events!) so if it is your first event don't be offended if you're just that "dude who showed up" Itheros relies heavily on those he knows such as Mae and Reigen for their scouting. Jidaeo for his leadership, Lucian for his battle tenacity, Seda for her vast mind. The more people attend the more I will submerge you into the storyline. Once again thank you guys for the feedback I will try to switch the combat up for you all.

That would have been nice to know.

But I trust your judgement Pharaoh. I will say I was harsh in my post, never been good about sugarcoating, but I'll have to go to another of your events from beginning to end. Perhaps there is a lot more that I missed then Pharaoh said I did to begin with. Of course that is if I am welcome.
