CotH/DND Hybrid RPG
#1
Synopsis

This is an attempt to take the best parts of CotH-style, freeform storytelling RP and the structured statistic system of DnD-style RPGs and put them together in the Warcraft setting. It's more of a personal opinion on what I think comprises the best sort of RP, but I hope the players will enjoy it too.

Stats exists, but they take a back-seat in favour of the storytelling and progression. In fact, the player never actually sees how much XP they might have, exactly; at least, not in number. Similarly, they can't spend said XP – everything is dictated naturally, following the flow of how their character is played.

Scenarios
  • [Troll] Stranglethorn Vale at an indeterminate point between WotA and the First War.
  • [Tauren] Central Barrens at an indeterminate point between WotA and the Third War.
  • [Orc] Nagrand at an indeterminate point between the Draenei ship landing on Draenor and the Rise of the Horde.
  • Maybe others.

Style of the Story

One of the main points of this concept is to experience Warcraft lore before WoW, and that means that it will be mostly 'mundane', in a sense. Your character won't play a part in the major Warcraft timeline, but they may well forge their own paths and achieve impressive feats. The point of the story itself is to highlight character development and progression while experiencing the awesome (and somewhat neglected) pre-WC3 lore.

While your characters may start out as little more than glorified scavengers or manual labourers, they could well become revered war heroes, illustrious craftsmen, renowned hunters, glorious priests or even feared villains. What's important is that the focus of the story is entirely non-linear. The only thing I as the DM will be doing to influence the story is place your characters in their starting spot and saying 'Go!'.

Much of what the characters will be exposed to is to do with the current goings on at the time. If the party chose tauren, for example, they would undoubtedly be involved with the perpetual wars with the centaur, competitive hunting and spiritual exploration.

IC Progressions

The intent of the idea is to foster progression and development. Characters will not only grow in personal ability, but general renown; different groups will have different opinions on the player-characters and will treat them accordingly.

Details

The group would ideally be three people plus me as the GM.
As a whole, the game would be a fairly long-term one.
It doesn't require any real RPG experience to play. In fact, it heavily lends itself to someone who enjoys the writing and story over the RPG.
Note that the characters in this RP won't have any connection to characters in CotH.

Basically, I'm looking for interest. If this seems appealing to you, drop me a line on the forums, reply on this thread or find me on Skype (dairylee56).

Any and all questions are welcome.

I'd join in, but I've never been able to get on when people have needed me to for Skype RPGs. Just doesn't end up working out. Seems like it could be fun though, hopefully you get some support and a few solid, active players.

Interested! Probably going to play my character Malar Brokenhorn's Bonecrusher master, the one that taught him everything he knows. That is, if playing Malar is not allowed!

EDIT: Or maybe a troll. The heavy-troll RP gets my interest higher than the tauren, actually.

EDIT2: Happy B-day, Vaei!

The idea is grand but I am unable to sign up for anything this spring with high risk of few hours of attendance.
