Heroism
#1
H E R O I S M

Everyone is the hero of their own story.

Heroism! Braving unknown depths for treasure, seeking out foul villains and bringing peace to the downtrodden and the innocent!

Well. That's one kind of hero.

Perhaps you're not a warrior of justice, or a mercenary with a heart of gold. Maybe your idea of a hero is the one that doesn't care any for crown or country. Who 's only interest in doing 'good' is if it comes with a coinpurse. Maybe your hero is another man's villain.

Well, here's your chance to be that hero. Alone. With a friend. With your followers or fellow adventurers of ill-repute and honor alike. Heroism is an 'event line' that will focus on a small group (five people max) and give them an assignment or adventure to carry out. They can range from being given an assignment to assassinate a random man of interest for a shady client, or being sent to clear a cavern of bandits to liberate a trail from their tyranny. Sometimes there may even be a reward at the end of the event, though that will likely be restrained to specific types of them.

...So how is this an event chain?

Well, instead of being ran as just mini-events, Heroism events will run with a specific style of DMing and will have a queue of participants to run through, rather than recruiting at random. Though there will not necessarily be a constant story progressing through the different events, I may pursue the idea of implementing reoccurring villains and locales.

Heroism will not be too alienating to any who have participated in Northwind. The concept is to have the DM focused entirely on one character and their actions in the world around them-- if they read a book, that book can be summarized. If they are stuck in a house, they can open a window and leap to freedom. Everything is handled on a case by case basis, and every action is weighed logically before a response is given.

It's as combative as you want it to be. Or sneaky. Or you could even try and charm your way through the challenges, if the possibility presents itself. For those who have been in Dungeoneer, I would consider this a sort of successor.

Alright. How does it work?

For the most part, Heroism works on a system of trust. Unless you've simply taken too much damage to feasibly continue, you can keep on until you feel its time for your character to drop. Combat is trust as well; sometimes the enemies will be skilled, and other times they'll be simple minions, easily dispatched by a trained combatant.

Instead, rolls are reserved for matters of chance and skill. The way this functions is that players joining into the event will submit a maximum of three strengths-- skills such as lockpicking, knowledge of lore or tracking, etc. If an adventurer with these three strengths encounters a trap, however, then its a roll to detect or perhaps even disarm it, should they actually take notice in-character.

I may also set up random Heroism events and run those by announcing in general chat, but I will not hold a schedule to these. If you want something that will more assuredly fit your time slot, just say so!

Alright. So how do I join?

I'm glad you asked, me. For Heroism we'll be using the following template. It might get revised, it might stay the same. Who knows. I certainly don't.

TemplateRigley Wrote:Player name: Rigley!
Character name: Rigley!
Times Available: [This is probably one of the most important fields. I really need to know when I can get these running, so I can plan accordingly!]

Class: Rigley! (Warrior) [Indicate an IC class or title as well, if you have one.]
Faction: Neutral [Please indicate if you only work for your main faction, or if you serve neutral parties.]
Alignment: Good [Simple answers are acceptable, though specifics such as 'Neutral Good' could be used.]

Strengths:
-Engineer [You can include a justification or clarification after the skill 'name'. For engineering this is fairly simple. Specializations such as 'siege engineer' can be set as well.]
-Perception [Specific character traits like this can be added as well. Is the character always suspicious and on the look out? He might just have a better chance of detecting an ambush, or a club swinging at him from behind.]
-Sharkwrangling [Right; it's silly, but consider this a 'favored enemy' of sorts. You may really be used to fighting kobolds. Paladins will logically get 'undeadslaying' by default, as will be applied where logical with other classes.]
[Be aware that I take class into consideration here. A rogue will have a lower threshold to hit to disarm a trap, even if he doesn't explicitly state that he has this skill-- though if someone specifies themselves as adept in disarming these devices, it's typically a free action for them with no roll.]

Weaknesses:
[Basically counterweights. Each must be valid weaknesses-- Otherwise, I'll ask you to redo them!]
-Strange: Has little charisma with most.
-Magically Inept: Has no knowledge of magical craft.
-Hubris [Character flaw! Can this character be goaded into a battle or a misstep?]
-Unskilled Swordsman [Don't put down something like this and then show up wielding a mace. Only write this weakness in if it applies!]

Desired Event: [If you have an idea in mind, I can try and run it. Later on I may start making event 'types' to toss in here, but we'll see how that goes. If left blank, I'll just pull one of my own.]

Please take note that while there is a limit of three on strengths, you only are required to have two weaknesses. I've included the number above just as examples.

If you intend on joining with a group, please notify as such and send the applications in with a single post from a person in your team!

Ask any questions below; I'll begin a roster if there's enough interest to merit it!

Roster
When prepared to run events, I will attempt to go in this order where possible. If one person is unavailable I will move to the next, and so forth.

1 - Mathias- Matthew
2 - c0rzilla- Orvisha
3 - Ural- Valda
4 - Ghurm - Eta

Do you want the applications posted here or do you want us to PM them to you?

PM, if you would!

Updated with the current roster.

Most events are planned, and I'll run some tomorrow once I'm back from school, providing this storm outside doesn't cut into my ability to do so!

Updated the roster; one on, one off.

For those wondering, my running of these will probably depend on participants more than anything. If it takes a while for one that may be the only one I run that day, whereas quicker events I could do multiples of.
