Backed it a while ago; The recent update added oceans and stuff but no swimming thus far. Next up is caves I believe.

I do believe a wipe is still planned for the future, so you may wish to hold off till they can confirm there won't be any more map wipes. All in all, what I've seen from my short time in the game so far; You can build some bloody amazing stuff with it once you get handy with the tools. (And have gathered all the materials.)

What bothers me is this question: If I give 4 closed beta keys.. will they also get to have the game when it comes out?

The game is meant to be F2P (Free to play) so I imagine so! Beta keys just grant access to the action instantly instead of hoping to get lucky or having to wait it out till launch.

Items, instantaneous access, clothing, a headstart before the game is released and opens to the public; So you can set your claim as one of the first and make sure you get the spot you want. Uuhhh, a flag, those beta keys and a forum title out of my head.

With the wipe at some point, I do believe you keep all items bought in the current in-game shop as well as the resources you spend on your claims. Claims and existing buildings will be removed.

^^ Best places are subject to change. I had a claim, messed with the tools a little and then abandoned it; The maps are pretty neat, though I've yet to see them with actual oceans in place. I can imagine mountain and ocean claims becoming rather popular, the headstart should hopefully get you the claim you want. It was.. Three days long before official release out of my head. (So three days before they go out of beta and into a fully released F2P state)

Edit: Founder's only, should probably mention that. The other backers don't get it as bonus.
