Kidnapped Feedback

I tried new concepts this time, and they failed. There are still a few things I can salvage from this (such as being much more picky with how many guards I have and who gets to play them, in the event I decide to run with this again).

In the words of Samuel Beckett: "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."

Sometimes, it takes risks and experimentation to figure out how to make something work and how to make it work well, and you can consider this event a part of that. Rest assured that I and other players took positive things away from this event, and that in and of itself makes this not an utter failure.

@Xigo: I know you don't want to hear anything else about Greeneye, but I want to say that I actually liked what I saw of the character. I don't think you should just toss him away and never touch him again. He had a tyrannical side and it was well executed. However, the problem was that you didn't involve him enough. He has all of the qualities that make up a good villain, but in order for a villain to be villainous, they have to be constantly antagonistic, and that means involvement.

-> Did you enjoy the event? (No? Why not?)
On a general level, yes. I did, in fact, LOVE this event, because of my character Jaedyn. Kidnapped was really all about character development for me, because it changed a whole lot of the person Jae was. It was a fun event...but I should answer the rest of the questions.

-> Was there anything in particular about it that you did/didn't like? Why's that?
One of the things I disliked was...the mystery factor. Yes, I know, that's one of the whole points...but...a lot of things seemed to go on without much reason. I mean, gnolls, enough said. And it was fine....but then the spirits showed up, and it kind of just made me feel strange because of how little I could actually put together of the story.

-> If an event like this was to be ran again, what parts would you like to see more of/what parts would you rather exclude, if you could choose?
I would totally be involved in this event again. I think this Kidnapped was a perfect level of up-time (events) and down-time (casual talking), but just only a few times did it lull into a boring drone. I think what was seen and/or excluded was great the way it was.

-> Was there anything you wanted to see that didn't come up?
Nope, but as I said. The mystery factor was kind of...off-putting.

-> What were you looking to get out of the event, if you participated in this one (or any of the previous)? What did you expect, walking into it? (Were you positively/negatively surprised?)
I really didn't know what to expect, coming into Kidnapped. I wasn't sure how it was going to pan out, and I didn't know how the new type of RP would play out. I was indeed surprised how enjoyable being locked in a cave was, though. I wasn't looking to get anything out of it, but I sure did.

-> Was the size of the crowd to your liking?
Yes, perfect. At times there weren't people on, but when there were people on....there were people on. I wouldn't change the size of the group.

-> Do you think there were enough RP opportunities away from the main events?
Considering this would be reliant on the other people around me, yes. I had plenty of fun making up my own RP opportunities (like hunting lizards).

-> Was the area chosen for the event easy to navigate, fun to RP in, and overall to your liking? Why/Why not? (Do you have any suggestions for other areas to use in the future?)
I did enjoy the cave. It wasn't a huge, complex cave, yet it wasn't such a small cave that people were stuck together. Just the right fit for the story.

-> What of the length of the event? Was it too long?
PERSONALLY, I think two weeks is too long of an event. At some point, days begin getting mixed, and all the sudden I've missed an event day. I think if an event is gonna' be an intense, hardcore event, it should be a few days, maybe a week. But that's just me.

*Extra bit about the mystery. I do feel like it's good to have a high sense of mystery, I mean....you're Kidnapped. But I feel like the plot could involve something like clue-searching, like putting the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out why the people are down there in the first place. Not just...you're here, you don't know why, and now you have unexplainable dangerous stuff in your face....especially when the spirits came in. Lots of foggy, gray areas, and it made it hard for me to immerse myself in an RP that I couldn't quite even piece together.

All in all, Lox, it was an amazing event. Sure I have my critiques, but a 2-week long event isn't easy to make. And I think you did a great job with it, and I can't wait for 7....because I know there will be one.
