Ok so my life is now settled enough to where I can feasibly come back to rp with you guys here on COTH

Heres the problem, I had an issue with my computer and now have Peppermint linux on it instead of windows 8, and I have NO BLOODY IDEA how to get the client to work on this thing.

Any, and I do mean ANY feedback on this issue is a life saver.

Linux. That's the only area I have no experience in what so ever. I wish I could help but I can't. Hopefully someone else can give you a hand. It would be a good idea to look it up on the internet. Google it!

Hm, hm...

Try PlayOnLinux.
It automatically installs wine too and the other packages required to run Wine. That is if you want the client to run on Wine..

Jaella suggested what I was going to suggest. Wine will also make the OS appear more like a windows operating system, making it a little easier to use. It's usually the best way to run clients like WoW on Linux.

One way or another, you will be using Wine for it. I used Wine in the past on my Macbook for other endeavors, so I might be able to give you a hand if you run into trouble. :)

Or, run a virtual machine but those use more system resources than Wine.

Like VMware player or Oracle Virtualbox.

So after much hassle I got the coth client dled onto my computer and set up with wine.

heres the thing though, it seems that wine will not run the client unless it's installed.

EDIT: It will load the cinematic, but at the log in screen it just cycles over and over repeatedly, as though it has no idea what to put on the screen.

Operating system?
Download source for client? Is it at the right version of WoW Cata?
Which cinematic is it loading?
Did you make a CotH game account using your exact forum information?
Did you change the Realmlist?

OS: Peppermint Linux, said so at the top of this forum

DL source is from this website. so it's the one the server uses.

It doesn't matter which cinematic its loading because that has nothing to do with the game files itself, it's just playing a video.

I have a coth game account, I've had one for awhile now cuz I've been on this server for quite a awhile, how else would I be a grunt.

And yes, the realmlist is changed to Coth

The issue is that because wine can only run something if it's installed in the virtual drive, I can't use the client in the download because that isn't installed, it's just a pick up and go.

No need to get snippy now; different releases of different versions of Linux exist, and I'm using my mobile, so grunt/peon/etc status aren't readily apparent.

And "Cinematic" does matter because I, personally, wouldn't consider an animated login screen to be a cinematic, and the first thing the game straight-up calls a "cinematic" is when you create a new character. I'm just trying to better understand what's going on here.

Lastly, are you still having issues even after using the mv command to stick the client in Wine's fake C:/ drive?

I don't know what MV command your talking about.

The cinematic isn't the loading screen, the loading screen never shows up, the cinematic is the intro videos you get when you first go to log on. Thats whats playing, when it gets to where the loading screen should be, I get audio, but the video blacks out the screen, tries to reload, then blacks out again, and cycles through like that.

Poor thing, I can just see how hard it's working to put the proper visuals up.

I'd suggest making a technical support thread to see what kind of help you may get, as some folks who could be able to help would normally over-look an absence thread! :)

I'm talking about the console command. Use the console to navigate to Wine's fake C:/ drive, then to program files, and stick it in there. In theory, it should work as long as the client and it's files are anywhere within the fake drive directory, but I've had it get finickie even with native installs unless it's in Program Files under the name "World of Warcraft."
What form of wine do you have installed?
