First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player:
I'm a long-time mmo-player and a longer-time roleplayer. I actually didn't realize it until much later, but when I was still in grade school I'd spend all my time during recess LARPing. It was actually pretty amusing one year when I had two thirds of my grade caught up in a Harry Potter LARP and was so busy arbitrating game-disputes that I didn't even get to play anymore. As a player, my favorite activity is, of course, roleplaying, but in most games I've played I often wind up spending more time just exploring the world. This is particularly so in games with very sparse communities of roleplayers. Pretty zones go a long way towards distracting me from grindfesting.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?:
I'm an American, although my English isn't really American English anymore. I've picked up quite a lot from other English-speakers across the globe. I'm also studying German and, hopefully soon, Klingon as well.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
Growing up I'd pretty much play whatever mmo my step-dad was into at the time. Eventually this led to WoW, and he became one of the hopeless instance/pvp-addicts while I would vigorously roam the servers looking for the next rp guild after whatever one I was in at the time fell apart. I've always appreciated just how much character diversity the in-game lore can provide for, and the creativity of the different players I've met over the years.

How did you find us? Did anything in particular draw you to the server?:
Well, it is the top hit from google. That and the fact that players have to actually apply to join the server, and that there was a torrent linked for the build your server runs on were all I needed to really make my decision.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
Would a simple yes be considered to snarky here? I've done pretty much everything at this point, and excepting erotic roleplaying I enjoy it all. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably just be picking up a group and roleplaying while playing the game as normal(ish). Stop to camp every once in a while as we roam the wilds of Azeroth. That sort of thing. BarP is great and all, but sometimes having my character sit on their rear while I sit on my rear just gets my legs a little too antsy, and I have to run outside.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
I don't know that I have a favorite race, to be honest. They all provide such different option that it feels weird to limit myself to any one of them. Picking a favorite class I'd probably go with shaman, as I think that one feels closest-to-home for me.

What are your expectations of this server?:
Pick-up roleplay! All I want, all I ask! I've had some great times with WoW in the past, but having to join a guild to find good roleplaying got to be a chore. I was excited for a while when I found this group called Dramatis Personae, which was a cross-server group aimed towards more random roleplay during the course of ones play sessions, but I didn't get too much out of them beyond some really nice ooc-chat.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
I've never really found much of a need for more than being respectful.

Did you know that we have a Mentor Program? It's entirely voluntary and you as a new player can sign up for it right now in your introduction! Are you interested in signing up to be assigned a Mentor? If so, say so here (Please enter at least "Yes" or "No"):
As I understand it from the thread, it looks like it's as much about social-integration as it is about explaining the ropes, so I'll give a yes for the sake of the former.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
The Cataclysm, like many events in recent history it seems, changed people. In the case of Gulnar, it had awakened a philanthropic streak. For the time being, he was leading a supply convey to bring food and construction materials to assist in the rebuilding of Menethil Harbor. In his younger days, he would've seen this as a boon for business, and would have fought tooth and nail to keep competing merchants away, so that he could take the citizens of the town for their every penny, but, those days were long past. His beard had grayed, and having barely survived the Cataclysm left him to wonder: "How will I be remembered?"

Long nights of reflection had convinced Gulnar that he did not like the answer to that question, and so he began to dispense with the fortune he had amassed during his younger days. At first he had stayed home in Ironforge, providing relief to the gnomes in their ongoing efforts to reclaim Gnomeregan, and also donating money to the poor in the hopes that they would be able to become self-sufficient tradesmen. This didn't last long, though, before his ambitions flared up once again. Gulnar saddled up his mechanostrider (he'd always loved the gnomish contraptions), hired some guardsmen, and set about exporting his new reputation.

It was for this reason that he found himself camping tonight by some unnamed fen in the wetlands, pondering life while waiting for his mutton to cook. His old bones weren't used to being out on the road like this, and he hurt all over. At one point he had even gotten his gut pinched in the neck of his strider, and required the help of two of his guards to extricate himself, but all this trouble was worth it! His heart was bursting with the joys of the open road (something too few dwarves appreciated, he felt) and he knew that, finally, he was establishing a legacy with which he could rest in peace.

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:
Nothing springs to mind, but I'm not shy about asking questions when need be.

Howdy, fourohbro !

This is a fine introduction! Welcome to CotH. I'll get the important stuff out of the way below!

Here'sCotH's rules!
ACotH's policies!
BigA link to the version of WoW we use at CotH!
Bunch You've gotta go here to register your in-game account!
OfA bunch of handy guides on all kinds of stuff!
Links A huge resource for making characters!

Additionally, when you join, be sure to /join chat and /join barrens, as those are two of the three server-wide public channels we use. Feel free to ask questions to me or any other purple, green or orange member about anythin' you need - here, in a PM or ingame, it's all okay.

With that out of the way...

Quote:I actually didn't realize it until much later, but when I was still in grade school I'd spend all my time during recess LARPing.

I used to do this too, except we were fans of Morrowind back when I was... Hell, seven... Eight years old? Made up enough junk while we were playing to justify a whole new game (though it would've been a silly game, that's for sure).

Quote:Would a simple yes be considered to snarky here?

Not at all! Though, I think you'll probably develop your own tastes, likes and dislikes in RP as you stay here, even if they're subtle ones.

Quote:Picking a favorite class I'd probably go with shaman, as I think that one feels closest-to-home for me.

Woohoo! Only the best players love shamans - look at Kretol! It's a little-known fact, but we actually give all the players who put shamans/orcs as their favorite class/race preferential treatment. Don't tell anybody! I'd roll one myself, but they can be intimidatingly complex.

I liked your story, too. I'm a sucker for understated or smaller stories, especially naturalist-style writing like that. As a matter of interest, is Gulnar a previous character of yours or is he a character you made for the story? If you'd like to roll him, we do allow rich/noble characters when you get promoted to grunt, so it's possible to do so!

Anyway,
☆ Welcome to CotH! ☆

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Wow! Playing Morrowind at seven or eight!? That's impressive, I didn't get introduced to the game 'til I was thirteen, and it still took me a couple years to learn that I love it! Also, Gulnar is a product of the fact that I was feeling writer's-blocked when approaching the story-writing question, and looking through other people's responses to get an idea of what were acceptable submissions, I felt like I was mostly seeing excerpts from origin stories, or stuff related to characters that people were planning on playing. Now, being years removed from playing WoW, I was growing a little frustrated, so I just settled on the idea of "Some fat merchant having dinner by a lake and nothing happens", I did a little research to pick to catch up my lore knowledge (I haven't played Cataclysm yet), and that was that. As far as orc shamans go, I've enjoyed playing them in the past, but I think the next shaman I play will wind up being a troll.

EDIT: I'm preferentially biased in favor of anyone who says howdy, I just didn't noticed this bit at first due to the scrolling text.

Heh - I've actually returned to CotH after being gone for three years, so I can understand the feeling of being a bit disconnected with the lore (particularly all the insane junk rewriting existing stuff in Cata). Trolls are an awesome race, so I can't fault you for going for them - we definitely need more Old Horde fellers hanging around, that's for sure!

I've never actually finished Morrowind - I had about 30-40 characters, 90% of the level one, but damn I had a lot of fun with that game. Maybe I should give it a proper run soon, actually play it from start to finish without just running into Red Mountain and typing sethealth 0 on Dagoth Ur. :b

Also, I'd like to give you kudos on going out of your way to research stuff for your introduction. It's setting a good example!

You 'n' me, buckaroo, we're gonna get along just fine.
