“The Call to Hyjal” is a series of event chains that tell the tales of Mount Hyjal as per the Cataclysm storyline. The RP events are adapted from the actual questlines from the game, tweaked for RP and an emphasis on team efforts. Adventurers of all walks of life will join the Guardians of Hyjal, a subgroup of the Cenarion Circle, in battling the Twilight’s Hammer Cult and the maddened fire elements as Ragnaros rises from the Throne of Flame in hopes to destroy Nordrassil, the World Tree.

Hero players will be given opportunities to affect the world directly through their actions. At critical points, crucial lore figures such as Ysera and Malfurion Stormrage will appear to interact directly with player characters. In addition, the server’s residential Green Dragon, Shalara, will appear periodically to guide the players as they venture around the mountain to defend it against the Twilight’s Hammer.

Although the nature of the story has a bigger focus on the involvement of druids from the Cenarion Circle, all player characters of all walks of life, regardless of class and race, are invited to the Hyjal story. Player interactions and involvement, though they do not necessarily change the core lore, will be able to directly affect the environment based on the Good End, Bad End system of event outcome.

“GOOD END, BAD END” MISSION OBJECTIVES

On certain events, the stakes are raised to very dangerous levels as our heroes fight to push back the Twilight’s Hammer. Although the lore heads for the direction of eventual success from our heroes, this does not mean that causalities will not happen and good endings are guaranteed. Mission objectives will set up with possibilities for failure, ranging from falling back from a push from the Twilight’s Hammer, destruction upon an area, or death to a group of NPCs or even players.

Good-End-Bad-End Events (GEBE’s) will have a RW system in which players must make their moves and rolls determine their successes. Specifics will apply depending on the event.

DIRECT PLAYER PROGRESS IN ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES

“The Call to Hyjal” event line encourages direct involvement from the players beyond simply facing the Twilight’s Hammer and culling down enemies. Sections of the forest can be healed, trees replanted, shrines reclaimed, and enemy lines quelled to ensure safety and recovery for the mountain. As players accomplish mission objectives, more of the zone will be freed for open roleplay.

From the very start of the event line, only the immediate area around the Nordrassil Inn will be open for RP. Attempts to go into the gray zones (including the adjacent the Circle of Cinders) may prompt a CW. Attempts to enter the red zones will definitely prompt a CW.

STORY BY CHAPTERS

The Hyjal story is adapted from the questline and adjusted for group RP, primarily through mission objectives and some smaller-scale events. Due to the scale of the story itself and the size of the zone, “The Call to Hyjal” will lend itself as a long-term investment for your characters to provide in different modes of RP. Be it high stakes battles, personal connections to the dangers, or the need to prove oneself, anything can be made available for your character’s development as he or she defend Hyjal from the Elementals and the Twilight Cult.

(( Nordrassil Inn and the surrounding grove is now available for open and casual RP. Remember, however, that leaving the safety of the inn's area (marked on the map) would put your character into grave danger. You are otherwise free to go about and explore the roots of Nordrassil. Two portals are made available in GMI (left is Horde, right is Alliance) for now.

Personal Storylines are stories that follow specific individual characters, with an intention for character development and growth. These would be based on the player's goals with that character, either in having him or her improve her power, develop new friends, understand the world around them, or overcome their inner demons.

Players would take part of the Personal Storylines by simply posting in the The Hyjal Journals. Because these are intended to be journal logs, you can post however way and style you wish, as often as you'd like--it can be introspective ramblings after a fight, a rant after having a spat with the other faction, or a lament over how much your character misses his family. In addition, a rough summary of the character's trials will be archived in the Tales of Hyjal post for others to read and enjoy.

In addition to the character journals, personalized quests can be made available for other players to take up if you have a specific character goal. An example would look like this:

Character's Name: Kantado

Character Concept/Summary: A very young night elf who is outgrowing his former slacker habits to become a fully mature adult. He idolizes his older brother and, while he loves his father, is otherwise aloof. He is still coming to grips with death and loss, as well as the consequences of befriending a death-themed Harvest Witch in Roux. He is in love with Ninde and hopes to start a life with her, but he has decided to postpone a possible future in a family by fighting in Hyjal.

Summary of Combat Experience: Kantado has no fighting experiences prior to his stranding at an island (Skin Thieves 1), thus leaving him out of almost all major wars and conflicts until the wars against the Lich King. All of his combat experiences are fairly recent, but he has become increasingly efficient in holding the front line as a bear druid. At current, though, he still needs much to learn.

What are your goals for the character?: The goals can be seen in the Character Concept/Summary--Kantado needs to grow as a fully mature adult. My goal is to meet that end by finding people who can mentor him or provide him conflict in the relationships he has.

Is there any source of drama or story that can be taken from the character?: Kantado is fairly friendly/neutral with Horde and has no problem with socializing with orcs and other former enemies of the night elves. His confidence in his abilities is also disproportionate to his actual abilities, which would get him injured too fast and too often. Because Kantado cannot heal, his druidism is also incomplete.

How do you think this character's needs (your goals) can be met?: I hope to have another player mentor Kantado while he remains in Hyjal.
