Introduction

First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player:
My name is Luke. Been playing wow since vanilla.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?:
US and English

How did you get into Warcraft?:
One of my friends showed it to me at one of his birthday parties

How did you find us? Did anything in particular draw you to the server?:
I just googled 'wow private rp server'. After looking it over I thought I'd stay

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
Spontaneous. I work on call at work so I'm not that reliable for events and stuff, and I don't know how much time I can commit to a D&D style gathering. So just like to hop on and be able to get a quickie.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
My favorite race is Tauren. Don't know why. I usually gravitate towards the more beast-like races in mmo's.
As for class it would be a hunter. I've always like ranged combat, and I am a avid hunter irl.

What are your expectations of this server?:
A place I can come in after work and unwind with a nice, easy going bar fight.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
The one about the keyboard grammar. I'm not a elitist about it by any means but spelling and stuff really irks me for some reason.

Did you know that we have a Mentor Program? It's entirely voluntary and you as a new player can sign up for it right now in your introduction! Are you interested in signing up to be assigned a Mentor? If so, say so here (Please enter at least "Yes" or "No"):
Yes

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:

When they first appeared everyone thought it was a joke, some hoax that came from the internet which couldn't happen. Videos and first-hand accounts started popping up everywhere, and then lives news started covering it. One very large creature appeared in every major city across the globe, Tokyo, Moscow, New York, Shanghai, Paris, etc… The creature was about three stories tall, and its face was constantly changing shapes in to various political leaders, pop culture icons, historical figures, random faces, animals, things that any person on earth can relate to. The body was a human male’s body without genitals, and it stood motionless as flocks of people crowded around it. Each country’s military acted slightly different, but in the end they just stood and waited to see what would happen, nobody knew what was happening. They stood motionless for about six hours, and then they all spoke in unison, in the same monotone voice, recorded on live television;

“We have come from a far more advanced species than yours, far across the galaxies. Our forms have changed in order for your minds to comprehend our image. We’ve taken pity upon your highly undeveloped race, and answer one question twelve hours from now.”

Immediately the UN met, and held a world conference for what the one question would be and a vote took place. Meanwhile every social site was buzzing as to what the question would be, and if these “creatures” could be trusted. They hadn't moved since they materialized, so no military action had been taken against them. Eventually a decision was made and a group of diplomats and political leaders met at the creature in Washington D.C. and asked their question;

Is there a god?

The world collectively held their breath, and the creature remained motionless while its face morphed in to different religious iconography. At last the creature sighed and spoke;

“ We feared you would ask this question, Humans believe themselves to have a special place in the universe, but as far as we’re concerned you are nothing. There is nothing guiding, or watching over you, you and your planet are nothing more than specks of dust floating in the grand scale of the universe. In an instant your whole existence could be wiped out, and it would be of no great importance. Your arrogance astounds us, you could have asked how to save your dying planet, or how to stop bigotry and prejudice, but instead your concerns are self-centered. There is no god, or even a greater force you humans are all alone. To prove this we will destroy this earth and recreate it ”

The whistling started in my ears, and I looked outside my window to see the world ending. Everything just sort of imploded; outside my window everything started disintegrating until my room turned bright then total blackness. I wasn't conscious; there was just nothing, an abstract idea of floating in space. I had no sense of time, then as suddenly as it became black the light came back and pieces of earth rebuilt came together. I was aware of who and where I was just as the television flickered back on, the creature continued to speak;

" What you just experienced was the death of you and everything you have ever known, I hope this has cleared up whatever further questions you had. Our departure is imminent, and we hope this discussion had caused a positive impact for the future of your society "

The creatures evaporated as quickly as they came, leaving the entire world quiet for the longest recorded period of time in modern history. I sat, still staring at the TV which was pointed at the spot where the creature once stood, trying to pin some kind of meaning to the whole event. There was no meaning though, no hidden message; everyone had seen their own mortality and the complete insignificance of their actions on a larger scale. Our questions were answered, but the answer shattered our concept of time and individuality.

A large-scale epidemic of suicides and riots happened around the globe hours, and days after we found there was no god. People couldn't handle the absurdity of our lives, the utter meaningless was overpowering, despair and angst set in. The television was still airing, and there was a country wide broadcast that advised us to barricade ourselves in our homes and wait. I holed up in my house with the supplies I had, and watched the world outside erupt in chaos. I saw people running around from my window looting stores, and occasionally heard the sound of guns or the smell of a fire. For the most part nobody bothered my apartment building , and I sat watching the tv or staring from the window.

In a devastating way it was beautiful, the repression of society had been lifted and people were reverting to their natural instincts. On the news I saw murder and crime skyrocket, but the number of people who helped others and acted selflessly proved my faith in humanity was not dead. Even though I had embraced absurdity, and existentialism, the impact of knowing there was no greater force controlling the world was terrifying. I suddenly found myself thinking on a far-greater scale than I did before, the divisions between myself and the universe had been lifted. I was no different than an ant that I had crushed as a child, and like that ant my death would also be as equally insignificant. I struggled for days reading the few books I had by Camus, and Nietzsche. If there is no meaning to life, what was left? The hopelessness was intense, so I drank the beer and liquor I had, and smoked my weed to keep my mind in the present and preoccupied from letting my mind wander in to the void of ego-death. I finally had to confront myself after a few days of this, I contemplated suicide but this was a coward’s option. I came to the conclusion that my personal integrity is what guides me through life, and what I perceive as right and wrong exists solely to me. The fear of the future, and regret of the past melted away leaving me firmly in the present, I realized I had to observe the beauty of our world. Everything we know was created by a random series of events, and appreciating the miracle of our existence is meaning enough to live. A sense of peacefulness came over me, and I decided it was time to go outside.

The world had changed a lot in the week that I had contemplated my place in the universe, there were bodies and fire had ravaged a couple houses and stores near my house. The people outside consisted of those who wandered around like zombies and those like me who had come to terms with terms with the absurdity of our world. The police force seemed mostly intact; I assumed that their meaning in life was to help others, as were most doctors/nurses. The religious community got hit the hardest, seeing as they are the most repressed of our society, seeing their morals and beliefs crumple before them must have been more painful than I can imagine. I passed a church which was vandalized and half-standing, scrawled in red graffiti on the large oak doors were the words, “Where is your god now?”

A lone police officer dressed in uniform came upon me walking and we had a conversation about what was going to happen now. He told me he had gone through the same ego death that I had, and the answer he found was that he had the duty to help others, and by making a positive impact he was making the world a better place. I told him that his own morals are what guide his actions, and that hope is dead when our faith in humanity dies. He agreed and told me that he had never felt more at peace with life than he had ever experienced before. In parting he told me that there was food, and water at a Red Cross tent a mile or two ahead. We exchanged goodbyes and parted ways, I was suddenly struck with the notion that the future looked brighter than it had ever looked before.

The Red Cross tent was hectic, and had the most activity that I had seen in recent days people were given medicine that they needed and food and water was being distributed throughout the crowd. Strangely instead of people fighting for food or water in a time of crisis everybody was making sure each person got their fair share of supplies, and the atmosphere was somber instead of panicked. I kept to myself mostly and got a few days’ worth of bread, and canned food. Everyone was sharing the same pain, and struggle which created a sort of unity in which I had never seen before. A few people were asking what would happen now, the police officers present explained that we would slowly start rebuilding everything and that everything was day to day. As I headed back towards my house I couldn’t help but laugh, indeed everyone around the world would be living their life day to day without the pressure of the future or the past.

I reached the top of my street, and stood looking at the burned out houses and trash that littered the street. Normally this sight would have been surreal, and frightening, but as the sun set and cast a red tint over the tops of the houses and the trees in the distance I couldn’t ever remember seeing a more beautiful sunset.

Throm'ka, potential recruit!

You have taken a tremendous step with this submission! You will receive an 'official' response in due time, but meanwhile you may wish to ensure you've reviewed the following:
  • Rules (Remember, ignorance is no excuse in the case of rule-breaking! Don't make the Peon Overseers lash you with the whip any more than necessary!)
  • Policies (There are some policies that may be rather uncommon, so if you have not yet checked them then spare a moment to do so!)

Some extra reading that may be of use:
Soon, you should receive a reply to your submission from one of the Peon Overseers informing you of whether you are a suitable candidate for Peonship. Be patient! Just review the above information and a response will come before you know it! As an aside, I think Peon skeeter17 has an... er... 'interesting' ring to it, eh?

Welcome to CotH, @skeeter17!

You know, I really appreciate the attention to keyboarding. Sometimes it feels very tiring sifting through a bunch of run-ons or missing punctuation.

I really enjoyed your story! It was very captivating as I was drawn into situation and curious how people were going to react. Drug use is fine in a story or RP as you have it here. Just a friendly remember to keep RL drugs out of OOC chat. Read more here.

Since Kortok listed off the basics, I'd like to point you to a newbie guide that can also help ease you in. Even before your client is finished downloading, you can (and should!) register your in-game account in this Account Management page. Make sure you use the same information that you registered your forum name under. If you're feeling up to it, you can begin writing out a character profile using this template. There are many helpful articles and guides both on the wiki and forums. <-- This one is SO helpful I'm going to list it even though Kortok already mentioned it.
The true test of his choice lies forward.
