First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player:

First and foremost, I should probably expressly stress that, as a person -- and thus player, -- I am brutally honest. I tend to try not to beat around the bush and I'm quite vocal in my opinions if I feel it necessary to eloquently voice them. As such, hopefully that will be represented in this introduction. However, I do try to be polite consistently. I'm not the kind to intentionally insult someone because I find that achieves nothing.

As for as a player, in general, I like to think I'm creative and inspired. I enjoy helping people, albeit I do have a touch insecurity with my writing abilities so I tend to avoid RP unless it really interests me or someone drags me kicking and screaming into it. Even so, I do enjoy egotistically thinking that my writing ability is above average, if not quite excellent, because self-gratification is the key to not having a mental breakdown.

I've been on other servers before; Imperium, for a day[yeah, that was awkward]. Freedom was my first and I was on that for. . . three or four years, give or take? I helped found Paragon in its first iteration with the administrator and original creator, Kinny/Katey, but left after a while and stepped down from GM'ing as I was busy and lost my creative flare and muse, so to speak. The general consensus about me is that people either hate me or love me. I seem to draw the extremes out of individuals; nobody is average when it comes to relating to me, and that can generally bad either a really good thing or the most horrifying trait ever experienced since the dawn of time.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?:

Ireland. Really. English, but I speak both French and Gaeilge[Irish, basically]. I like potatoes, I'm not really ginger, I do possess freckles, my skin burns in under 2.4 seconds in direct sunlight, I may have a pot of gold in my back garden protected by a leprechaun and I don't really drink.

Anything else? Oh, right. Lucky charms. Or something.

How did you get into Warcraft?:

Warcraft 3, actually. Best RTS ever, by the way. I loved the atmosphere and general universe and I got enthralled by the lore behind it; when I came to WoW, it just got worse and suddenly I could recite Warcraft lore without even thinking about it. That was when I realized I had abandoned any semblance of normalcy and became a bonafide nerd. //novel

How did you find us? Did anything in particular draw you to the server?:

I have always known of Conquest of the Horde. It has a reputation amongst other servers as a place for the elite, with stringent standards, odd mechanics and a generally older community. Since I have nowhere else to go, for various reasons I won't say here since I'd probably only end up insulting someone, I decided to give this a try. Whether or not it will succeed is up in the air and likely falling rapidly due to gravity.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:

The cerebral kind. Roleplay, for me, is a method of communication and expression. I enjoy psychological tampering and emotional dynamics. I don't roleplay for phat lewtz or to become the most progressed, beastly person. I roleplay to experience the sensation of the mind and what happens when you expose it to certain things. A paladin that falls to corruption due to lack of willpower, a mage that has their spells backfire, a warrior who's only desire in life is to be accepted and respected by their comrades -- these are my interests as I find them ultimately more compelling.

Ultimately, to me, roleplay requires some form of conflict-- not necessarily fighting, but opposition. It requires a motivational pull to propel it forwards.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:

Night Elves. Priest. I adore Kaldorei ever since Warcraft 3 where they were the quintessential badasses and totally took the names of every orc from here to Outlands. I feel they've degraded somewhat due to the constant efforts of Blizzard to constantly rewrite and brutally butcher their lore, but I'll always find them the best race. Their xenophobia really ties into my love of psychological and their obsession with balance is an interesting trait to possess in a character.
That and Maiev is a total hottie winner.

As for priests, again, psychological. I'm quite enamored with the ideal of religion and faith in a character context; I find it provides a lot of depth and substance. It's little surprise that the Scarlet Crusade is arguably my favorite faction in Warcraft lore as I find zealotry and die-hard fanaticism to be something compelling. Likewise, the dichotomy of Light, Shadow and belief is always amusing -- the line between sin and redemption.

What are your expectations of this server?:

It might surprise you to know I don't really have any. From past experiences and sustained years of listening to disgruntled people yammer on other servers, my perception of Conquest of the Horde is skewed. I don't have any expectations as I feel that'd give way to assumptions and would eventually let me down if they were not fulfilled. I'd prefer to let the server speak for itself and see what it has to offer before I decide whether or not it's lacking in something I desire. That way, I can experience it fully, get to know some people and then make a calculated decision.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:

Ah, damn. Loaded question 101. Here comes my brutal honesty; a lot of the rules and general methods are odd to me. I dislike a lot of them, but I'll follow them, regardless, as that's just proper etiquette. Of course, this'll probably get me denied due to seeming like an inconsiderate asshole, but c'est la vie. The one that appealed to me the most, however, was probably maturity. It's always good to have a mature player base that can get along, even if only barely.

Did you know that we have a Mentor Program? It's entirely voluntary and you as a new player can sign up for it right now in your introduction! Are you interested in signing up to be assigned a Mentor? If so, say so here (Please enter at least "Yes" or "No"):

Oh, err, sure. Yeah. Let's do that. Why not? I'd prefer to not run around like a headless chicken on my first day. Headless chickens are dead ones. I quite enjoy being alive.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:

This is a story I made in a random flash of inspiration. I'm honestly not sure if it's appropriate for here considering the subject matter, but I feel it's one of my better examples. Hopefully it'll be sufficient.

Her fingers glided along the bannister. She felt the rigid timber below her; rough, yet somehow also smooth. With each shift of her foot, she moved along the edge with caution. It wasn't long ago that she peered from here down below, speaking words of beauty and love to one of noteworthy desire. How she missed them. How she desired them. Their touch; their smile. She bit her lip as she leaned upon the railing. The telltale trickle of a salty tear marked its way down her face, ending at her chin and falling to the floor metres below. She inhaled and exhaled, the traces of her chest following and pushing against the cold stone of the columns that held up the wood. A pain bloomed across her forehead; a throbbing, striking incessant pain that threaded through her brain. She had a stark flash of remembrance-- her tongue became heavy, she tasted blood, she smelled smoke and burning. Her hand gripped the railing for support as she grit her teeth. It would never end, would it? It was a neverending circle; everything reminded her of. . . them. Of the fateful day it happened. She flinched as she could almost hear the splintering of wood, the falling of supports, the screams of the dying. No, it would never end. There was only one way it would end.

Carefully, she shifted a dainty foot onto the railing. Her toes flexed and gripped at it instinctively. She fought back a wave of vertigo and moved her body up. Her dress trailed behind her, tattered and ruined from the screaming; the sheer desire to release her sorrow. Her sleeves were soaked with blood from the cuts she placed upon her skin, reminders of just what life was to her. She saw nothing but darkness; remembered nothing but sorrow, regardless of the light. Was this how it would end? It would seem so. She hesitated for a moment before moving her next foot onto the other side of the railing and gripping it with both hands. She stood there precariously on the end. Her back heated, almost as if there were a fire behind her goading her on. Voices whispered, flooding her head -- 'nobody will care,' they hissed, 'you're worthless'. They nagged and pecked at her, causing her headache to flourish even more as she gripped the railing so hard she got splinters. "No," she mumbled to everyone and herself, "I'm sorry." With that last statement of guilt, she pushed away from the railing.

Her body jerked with the lack of support, gravity asserting itself, as the cold stone of the floor below her rose to greet her form. Her life flashed; the girl that giggled, laughed, running in meadows with cartwheels and joy; the teen that grunted and groaned, refusing to accept the judgement of their parents and caretakers; the young adult she only recently became, mingling with peers and planning for the future. It all came in a lightning of clarity and her only thought was, 'I take it all back. I want to live.'

As the darkness came and she felt a sudden push of pressure, of pain, before it all ended, she had one final flash; the image of the shimmering golden crown she was once expected to wear.

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:

I like waffles. And elves. Elven waffles. Yes.

Throm'ka, potential recruit!

You have taken a tremendous step with this submission! You will receive an 'official' response in due time, but meanwhile you may wish to ensure you've reviewed the following:
  • Rules (Remember, ignorance is no excuse in the case of rule-breaking! Don't make the Peon Overseers lash you with the whip any more than necessary!)
  • Policies (There are some policies that may be rather uncommon, so if you have not yet checked them then spare a moment to do so!)

Some extra reading that may be of use:
Soon, you should receive a reply to your submission from one of the Peon Overseers informing you of whether you are a suitable candidate for Peonship. Be patient! Just review the above information and a response will come before you know it! As an aside, I think Peon Ultraviolent has an... er... 'interesting' ring to it, eh?

Hello there, Ultraviolent! Welcome to Conquest of the Horde!

Ewww. Potatoes.

And don't worry. The rules here are special but usually people get used to them and we don't really like shoving them in peoples' faces. Some of the RP-related policies are subject to change what with us recently opening up for Custom Lore submissions, but we'll see how it goes. Not liking the rules is fine, as long as they aren't broken. They can mostly be summarized in "don't be a butt", so it's not a big deal. :)

A mentor will be assigned to you ASAP, and they'll send you a PM when they have!

Do you have Skype? If so, you should check out this thread! Feel free to add my Skype (loxmardin) as well, if you want to chat, ask questions or have me add you to the official CotH Skype Group, manually! But you already have me on Skype, so ignore that part! The note on the public chat group still stands though!

Remember to register your in-game account in the Account Management page with the exact information you registered your forum name under. Also, take a look at this announcement about the .LFRP command! It's totally useful!

As per standard approval procedure, I'm going to link you to a few nice places that it certainly doesn't hurt if you double-check and make yourself extra familiar with. These are the Rules and Policies, as well as the FAQs. They've got a bunch of vital information in them. Don't forget to "/join Chat" for general chatter, "/join Barrens" for general randomness and more spammy chatter in-game!

Without further ado, welcome to the server and I hope we'll see you around!

Happy RPing!

Love,
Overseer Loxmardin
