Magical Music!
#1
Hullo.

So I'm working on a character, and I'd like some help with one detail here. The character is a blood elf, and has innate magic and such. The character is a capable swordsman raised as a death knight. What I wanted to know was if this character could use his magic or runic power to create melodies. Not with any effect, but just as the novelty to create music without an instrument.

So, I know there's obviously not anything recorded of that being possible. I figured that there might be a way to make it possible, though, since magic is able to create food, make automated brooms, or make flowers, as I've heard.

Thanks in advance for advice.

I wouldn't think it possible for a Death Knight to do so, with their Runic Powers. I mean, they were empowered to be killing machines. I see it as possible for a Mage though, given the wide extent of things Magic can do otherwise.

Right. Though by extension I suppose the question is if a death knight could carry over a magical power that he had in life.

Then again now that I think on it, that sounds like a slippery slope. As in, deathmage knights, which would be a no no.

Making music? Perhaps as a variant of a priest's mind control? The target "hears" phantom music that emanates from no where?

Or is the music heard by everyone and seems to radiate from a central point?

I like the idea, would sort of be an undead version of my blood elf magimusician. He used ice magic to create instruments and then change temperature of water and air to making them sound.

As far as ones magical aptitude after death, technically I'd say it would still be there. If I remember correctly all those raised were chosen cause of their skill in melee combat. Anyhow you are also right that it could seem overpowered or Mary Sue with a death knight still wielding magic.

Using their runic magic to make music is out of the question, cause all runes have a purpose already. Though using their inner death magicks to create music would not be impossible, but at least very different. A choir of locust/roaches, the deep bubbling of 'melting' dirt, the pop of boils and bones breaking and of course a ghoul playing a very small violin.

If I were you I'd skip the deathknight requirement, cause in my oppinion they are special and specific enough to only be death knights no matter their former life.

The music would be heard from a central point, yes. And I think that this is seeming a minor enough part just to be dropped, really.

On a further note though, I did have a second idea as to how this could be done. It's a bit darker, but what if the music was powered by souls? [As in, making souls 'sing'.]

Though, again, I'm not sure if Frostmourne is the only runeblade that drains souls.

http://www.wowpedia.org/Vampiric_runeblade suggests it is not the only one.

Quote:"Once the runeblade is used to turn a hero into a death knight, it becomes that knight's personal weapon and is slowly charged with the life energies of those injured and slain thereafter."

It doesn't explicitly state souls however, it could simply be blood or pain. To me, 'life energies' is a vague term for soul, but I think the average Runeblade might only take a metaphorical bite out of a soul instead of consuming it utterly. I'm not sure. However, I do think it is concievable that Runeblades other than Frostmourne are -capable- of devouring the soul of the slain.

This is slightly off topic though, and might warrant a new thread to attract the attention of someone who knows for sure.

Why would you want to do this? Just curious.

Might want to look at the date before posting in a topic, Mike. This is two months old and you're not really adding anything new to the discussion.

I would think the easiest way for a Mage, (because i can see no way a DK could do this) to create music would be for him to sort of possess a intrument and have it fallowing said mage, or perhaps capture the sound of the instruments and channel the sound through a portal or arcane box of some sort. Just some random thoughts if this question is still up.
