Game Crashing

Well, I guess it's a good thing that I just got a PC a few days ago for this sort of occasion...

Thanks for the help I guess.

I have actually been having this same problem too. It happens on any server I try to log in to.

I went to retail for some help for this, but they couldn't do anything unless I posted a log, and I couldn't post a log because it only happens on private servers...

Currently trying a reinstall. I'll keep everyone posted.

Reinstalled. Still getting the same problem. It looks like I'm done with CotH and private servers in general, at least until another patch is released and the server patches up (though even that might not fix my problem.)

I'll keep lurking the Mac Tech Support forums in the meantime.

EDIT: I hate to be a Debby Downer, but I just logged on to another private server I play. This one is heavily-modded (epic mounts at 29?!) and I had no problem there...

Or you could just reinstall to Burning Crusade. I am not entirely sure, but I think Kretol can just modify your account to a BC version and then you won't need the WotLK patches.

I think the problem is on COTH's end. I'm not experiencing this on retail or other private servers.

Huh. Thats weird, because I get it on my friends server and my own home-brew server as well. Perhaps it is a problem with the latest revision.

The server I'm using is The Murloc Village. They've got a 29 Twink PvP server that I play on from time to time. They just updated to 3.0.8 today, and I've been having no problems on there.

I'll update the revision sometime today to see if it helps you folks that are crashing.

Mine has already stopped crashing for some reason. But thanks anyway Kretol.

That'd be great if you could, Kretol. I understand you're busy so don't exert yourself too much on our account, but if you could do that when you get a chance I'm sure we'd all appreciate it. Hopefully that fixes the problem.

Server updated to a new revision a bit ago. Let's see if anyone still gets the same crashes.

If anyone is still having problems with crashing I think it's the error reporter itself that was causing most of our problems. I started playing full screen so the error reporter wouldn't pop up every 5 seconds and the game has worked perfectly for me.

Hopefully I'm not kicking a dead horse here, but I'm still having this exact form of problem.

I'm on a Mac, and sadly, I don't have a solution. Else I wouldn't be here. But I CAN note several things I've noticed about it, at least on my end.

One. There are OODLES of errors that pop up, usually having to deal with files named MapQuery, or smaller errors involving monster movement. These errors, individually, haven't caused my game to crash. They're identifiable by the words Assertion Failed!.

Now, number two. The error that DOES seem to be crashing my game is the one most reported here, the BAD_ACCESS, KERNAL_PROTECTION_FAILED or whatever. Instead of Assertion Failed! it's called Exception Failed, or some such.

I did a wee bit of research on the net (imagine that) and found that this error is commonly associated with a program trying to write data into files that it only has permission to read.

... In short, I found little to nothing of substantial use. However, as earlier suggested, somewhat, deleting the line set realmbn "" in your CotH realmlist.wtf gave me a tiny bit more stability, though I have no idea why.

Other things of note:
Elwynn caused me to receive The Error much sooner than Dun Morogh. In Dun Morogh, I was able to run around a small bit, kill a bunny and a wolf, and talk to a man about mittens before WoW ended the madness.

In Elwynn, I logged in. Let the minor errors run their course, and then threw a knife at a kobold. WoW clearly loves the little bastards, as it crashed whole-heartedly at that moment.

To conclude, no problem on retail at all, and I have a tiny feeling that the server itself is doin' something odd for just that reason. Mainly for Macs. Hope this gives someone a clue as to what might possibly be the problem.

Cheers.

'lo There, The thing about permission to read only. Maybe move your WoW folder to a folder that has writeable acces, asuming you moved it from where it was installed. Though you say that you threw something at a kobold? That is probably a corrupted file linked to that spell and/or abilitiy. If you want, send me a forum PM with the full error and I will see what I can figure out.
