Over the past few weeks of playing on Coth I have encountered quite the annoying error, I will be into a nice good ol' RP and then all of a sudden my computer screen will fade to black as if it were hibernating even though I keep my laptop plugged in all the time. Now once it is in this state I have to power down by holding the power button and then when I try to turn my computer back on it takes a good 3-5 times before it finally lets me on. Now I assume it is something between me and the server because I play Warcraft III often and other online games and even non-online games of the same size as WoW and this has never happened. I hope you can help me out so I don't have to keep havin' blackouts of RP! :)

I'm afraid the server can't make your computer crash.

In a computer crash doesn't the computer itself turn off?

Not every time. If the game crashes client side, it could effect your computer, meaning something along the lines that "Your computer cannot handle that game." It could be anything from going black, to freezing up, to the blue screen of death.

But, like Kag said, nothing comes from the server to make that happen.

I already know the problem, my computer used to do that and it isnt even a laptop.

If I am correct, you are overloading one of the cards in the laptop (assuming that they even have one, I am better off with desktops). Mine would overload in the major cities until I got a new vid. card. It is possible that this might be your problem especially if you RP in large groups.

Sorry if anything's missing, here is a website with a ton of info about it, I am not too smart with computers....

The only problem with that is I will be alone in a city and it will do this, also this computer is new as of November.

NVIDIA

Says it all, see if you can get the opengl or open source driver for your 8400M GS.

New Pc or not, there is a memory dump string that is murder on ATI & Nvidia cards. No way around it, either plug and play with various drivers or run wow in opengl mode.

Edit your execute file to read:

"C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -opengl
"C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\wow.exe" -opengl
which ever shortcut you happen to use.

Then I got nothing. Sorry! I was just trying to help.

Trying my best to not be a "know it all" but, your computer can be really old and be better than the newest out there. I will admit, my computer is 2 years old, but it is a wtfpwn Alienware Gaming computer. I only dislike it because it is vista. XD I do not like Vista.... at all... The newer the computer doesn't meant he newer the graphics (or video, not exactly sure which is the actual name) could still not be able to handle the WoW graphics.

Update your graphics card?

And return as falling snow,
to sweep the landscape a wind haunted.
Wings without bodies.

Might as well say it...The Sever Does Not Like Me...cause it always makes my WoW shut down and error any time I go to Shatterspear....that means no custom items or bugged spells btw.
