How do pets for non-Hunter classes work OOCly?

In a specific instance, Spiritwalker companions etc. How do these prestige classes or classes in other special circumstances control their pet?

Any answers, speculation, and wildly exaggerated lies would be greatly appreciated! :mrgreen:

We've never had to deal with it really. I suppose you might use a non-combat pet or just RP that something is there if you have a specific companion around for some reason.

IF you can find some kind of visual aid, such as a non-combat pet, guardian (The kind you summon with items that protect you for X amount of time) pet or some kind of item that can do that, it works. If not, it isn't really a problem. We're RP'ers after all, and we're prone to use our imagination a lot. Just say "There's a spiritwolf/giant ogre behind me" and it should be OK!
