A handful of people criticizing one thing is really something to think about...
One or a couple of people criticizing the same thing a hundred of times is something to ignore.
Apologies for being contradictory, but I think the thought behind this is faulty. Granted, simply because something is controversial does not mean that it's wrong, but nigh-unanimous or criticism (or even the ire of a vocal minority) almost always warrants serious consideration.
I think what Saiyuu meant to say was after hearing the same thing 5 or 6 times, it gets to be like beating a dead horse. The person has already by then read and considered the critique, and made a decision regarding whether to listen or reject the critique. I think what Saiyuu meant is after awhile you sort of just tune out the same suggestion because you've heard it a million times.
While a majority can mean a consensus, it does not always mean it is right. This can be summed up as the bandwagon fallacy, or appeal to popularity.
