Demand For Vouches!
#16
Azheron Wrote:Ahh, I know the feeling of not getting those darn vouches. I didnt get them, in a long time period. A -long- time period. But a few days ago, a fella promised to give me one. I was -so- happy. My first vouch. And then they initiated this system.

It killed my joy, I mean, now you only need a questionaire and a profile. Before you needed vouches! Vouches, vouches and more vouches.

Vouches proved you were good, they were epic. They were compliments, and now theres only the approved profile.

If I'd get to decide, the vouch-system would be back very quick. Allthough I've only gotten one.

Vouches hardly proved you were good, it proved you made friends with a grunt who thought you were nice and gave you one. They were far from epic in all honesty, I've only gained one vouch since I didn't bother to kiss up with the level 80's online, spending my time with fellow peons. Hell, the only reason I gained the vouch that I have now was from a peon I rped with who turned into a grunt 3 times faster then me.

Either way, I'm not going to rant further on about that.

Quote:Personally, I wouldn't mind saying once in a while that someone's simply an awesome writer and/or provided a very amusing RP session. Still, I don't see any special reason why such a thing has to be on something as viewable to the community like a forum. Just tell someone in-game you had a great time with them, and leave it that.

Also a good point, I can say that I personally enjoy receiving feedback whether it's bad or good. It's shows someone at least paid attention and had fun RPing with you during that time. That's worth more then a "vouch" for me.
Quote:Perhaps one day, at a new sight,
We will search again for that light.
Hold it close, between our arms,
Listen again, to the priestess her charms.

I don't really agree with vouching in general.. Sure, it's nice. You can look and be like "Oh someone likes me!" But.. isn't just asking that person to RP again enough? Can't you just go and say OOCly after RPing with them "Wow, you're an excellent RPer! That was hella fun! We should definitely do it again sometime!" and just put them on your friends list, etc. and.. just be happy with that? I mean, why do we need a forum post there to show if this person's good? They've proved themself in RP to you. What do I do when I see a good RPer and enjoy my time playing with them? I tell other people. "Oh hey, have you RPed with <name here>? No!? Dude, you need to. They're awesome." And then they become more known with everyone. Then people go "Orly?! Well, lemme go check this out!" and next time they can, maybe they go RP with person and see that they're awesome and tell -more- people. It's basically a pay-it-forward kinda thing. There's no need for a forum post with big flashy text saying "THIS PERSON IS GOOD. VOUCHED." Just seems unnecessary. And some people may get a bit of an ego from it(It'll happen. It always does.). In fact, imo, they already are kind of an ego thing, just thinking about it. People love that sense of accomplishment.. I'd get that feeling just from a compliment. Shouldn't need a big, flashy vouch post(or three, for that matter) to feel accomplished. Just RP! Have fun! You may even get someone who's not even RPing with you to chime in and say good things, who knows.

Am I going to yell at someone for 'vouching' for someone when the system isn't in place, nope. Eventually the person's accomplishments reach the ears of say a GM, and they can say "Oh I heard this person was great fun!" and maybe they go RP with them too.

So yeah. My thoughts there. I'm sure I repeated some people. Sorry. :/

Mmmm, a very good point Piken but I think the "through the grapevine" method only works if people have a certain attitude. Personally, I don't ever strike up conversations about fellow RPers, but perhaps many other people do. I'm sure word spreads but posting something publicly 'cuts out the middle man' so to speak so that everyone might see it and hear the opinions of others.

There are both apparent good points and bad ones to vouching (Complimenting publicly, sorry. Politically correct.), but does that mean we should cut them out entirely? Maybe, maybe not. But, as the GM's decided to remove the vouch system I will concede to the verdict.
(And post annoying 'compliments' on worthy citizen's profiles instead  since no one seems to mind that.)

And a parallel to compliments, critiques! Well done Kiffles!

No matter what is demanded. I don't see the vouches coming back. Atleast.. not anytime soon. There is nothing 'special' about Grunts that other people don't deserve to have. Vouches only bring favoritism, and brown-nosing from both sides of the rank fence. It really doesn't matter that much. RP is the focus here. Not what group you're of.

Err, have you read the contents of this thread, Kaelvan?
No offense, but perhaps a scan of the first page?
Heheh, I do the same thing at times, posting without reading it all.

Don't know about others, I liked the vouch system. Mainly because, well...It just showed that I was capable of being a good RP'er. Thing is, I also believe that the vouch system was broken not because of the system itself, but because of the people doing it. (Repeating ourselves, woohoo) Who's fault was it that people gave out vouches like candy? The peon's? I don't think so. Just because a certain peon asked for a vouch on first RP, doesn't mean that they should have been given it. At first, I didn't know how valuable Vouches were. I asked for one at first RP session, and I was denied.

Didn't give up, kept RP'ing and got them. Trough honest, hard work and dedication to RP. And after I got 'em, still RP'ed with people. However, the ones who gave out the vouches too easily..I think those are to blame. And yes, I do believe there is SOMEBODY to blame for the system's failure. I as a Grunt demanded at least two weeks of RP with that person, and if I didn't feel like they deserved it..didn't give it to them, simple as that.

In conclusion, I think I might start doing what freelight does and PM people who I believe are good RP'ers. Some people deserve to be 'in the spotlight' like Walluce said. Maybe the best way to do the vouches is trough private chat. But that's just my opinion on it, don't have to take my word for it.

'Zona.
So Ivan say to me "Who was talking device then?"

And then Sergei say "But Ivan is dead"

That is when I realize Sergei was bear.

The issue of the actual vouch system can be debated forever, but that's behind us, and the questionnaire seems to be working just fine. That's not what this topic is for anyway.

For what this thread actually IS about, I haven't read every single one of the previous posts so I may be repeating some points, but I think nobody is going to penalize anyone for publicly complimenting another roleplayer. Hell, Peons can do the same thing to Grunts if they really like how some of us RP. Part of the reason the staff decided to change the system was to get rid of the rift between the two and the feeling that Grunts should be allowed to judge Peons on how "good" they are at RPing.

So, in short, I agree with everybody complimenting people they like publicly as an unofficial thing. Grunts to Peons, Peons to Grunts, everyone to everyone!
