Grakor's Guide to Death Knights!
#16
Only the Lich King, or a Lich... or a hell of a skilled Necromancer can raise a Deathknigh. So, to put is short, no you cannot play a DK raised by another DK.

Most of what we find acceptable are the 3rd generations, those raised before Light's Hope, and realeased during or a bit after.

And just to cover the last part, Death Knights seem to have a lack of many positive feelings. The story hook behind my Death Knight was that she felt empty for not having such Human emotions and did things to try to get back just a sliver of that Humanity she'd lost, either through remembering moments from her past or trying to get into situations where she could imitate those emotions.

Ultimately I think it depends on what you want your Knight to be like, but I've always thought there are a few emotions (Love, kindness, caring, etc.) that are probably dulled or removed either by the Lich King's indoctrinating will, or by the atrocities he makes you commit in his name.

We know there are still DKs among the Scourge, if it wouldn't be possible to have one freshly made by a modern DK, would it be possible to have one freshly broken free of the Lich King's control instead? As in, captured in Icecrown and freed from that point?

I'd say it could work, yeah, there are quests in Northrend where the Ebon Blade does just that, not sure of the name for it but it at least confirms it's possible, with some rituals and such I assume. Necromancers of the Forsaken are known for doing it as well, freeing Scourge to join with the Forsaken to bolster their numbers.

Grakor Wrote:According to one of the very recent RPG books, the ritual that turns one into a Death Knight does not, ironically involve dying. It's generally assumed on Live that this generation of Death Knights died, but that doesn't really mean they are fully undead, nor fully alive. It's open to interpretation, and generally I prefer to leave it that way and let people decide on their own if their DK is living (at least partially) or dead.
Alright, so I would just like to confirm, could a Death Knight have been captured alive, then a ritual done to turn him into a Death Knight, and so on and so forth? This would mean that the Death Knight is in fact one of the living, requiring food, water, etc, but with the powers and 'hunger' of other death knights. Would it also be right to assume that after one goes through the ritual, the ageing process would be drastically slowed, or something? ><

Also, would it be possible for a Death Knight to -not- have been there when the Lich King fought Fordring, meaning that you were not freed from scourge control but rather brought back to Northrend, where you defend the Lich King until you are captured and 'freed' >.> I'm guessing that this would be a special profile or something, but I'd just like to ask here, before I go to write my profile, for the benefit of others :>

If they aren't dead, they do not get the benefits of Undead immortality. Likewise they get none of the benefits of Undead pain tolerance once freed, and they can freely be maimed or bleed out and die unlike most Undead who must be decapitated or suffer a great deal of trauma. As well, a living Death Knight can't heal themselves because Unholy magic doesn't work on the living.

You can be a recently-returned Knight, but keep in mind your origin. Only the Forsaken know the secrets of returning those under the control of the Lich King to free will. The Horde are the likeliest candidates for such freedom due to this.

Rensin Wrote:Oh, oh! I have a comment, I have a comment! What about the thing that people do... the whole "WELL THIS RACE CAN'T BE A DK BECAUSE BLAH BLAH BLAH!"? Could that somehow be incorporated?

Ah that's just the whole "Draenei and their Naaru-given dominion over light would prevent the Lich King from using them as Death Knight's because they are shaky and troublesome to control"

Blah Blah Blah exactly :P
Ignorance in some people amazes me. It's perfectly viable to have a Draenei Death Knight,

1; Because they control the Light, the light would most likely leave them upon death, or until a larger force of darkness has taken hold of the vessel, therefore expelling their ability to use said powers.
2; They were well and truly involved in the Living vs Scourge conflict, as much as any race, therefore Draenei casualties were as common as any other race.
and 3; The Draenei are completely and utterly mortal, therefore are completely vulnerable to either a surviving strain of the Plague, or if they were severely weakened in battle, a Necromancer could warp and twist their minds until they obeyed.

This came from Talk;WoWWikki:

"Lore-wise there's really no reason why a specific race couldn't become a Death Knight.
All races can be challenged mentally and physically, their will dulled, and be cast down into madness ... and darkness. Their souls drawn into the runeblade they wield."
