Move RP to Shattrath?
#16
Back To Shattrath? We already had Shattrath being a hub for quite some time. Anyone remember Aula Arcanum? That guild had Shattrath packed, I share the sentiments, it frustrates me as well that everyone loves booty bay. When the game has so much to offer, it is only upsetting because if 30 people are on a good 15 - 20 are in Booty Bay and nothing is really going on. Except same old every day stuff.

But as I was told before, you can't tell people where to RP. Even if you do want to change it up, the best thing to do is try to start an event or a guild that will grab RP in some other direction. And this is the exact reason why I have so many characters. Because when your favorite characters or someone you enjoy playing doesn't have a reason to be there its nice to make a new character who would have a reason to be there. You might even like the character due to the difference.

I believe booty bay is big because of a couple of story lines and guilds based there. If you're here for RP just go to Booty bay, RP and try to start an adventure to another location. If nobody wants to join just log lol. Thats how I feel anyway. Everyone has there own styles, I think its easy to go to neutral areas because then everyone can bring their favorite character and mingle with someone else's favorite character despite their race or faction. ( I have been guilty of this as well ) but it does suck the war out of warcraft. Even if we move the "hub" of RP we'll get tired of it eventually. I remember a thread posted by some GM I can't remember, who wanted to move RP out of Stormwind. Which is all but dead now. So... You win some you lose some. I'd like to see some Northrend RP again. Azshara Crater does deserves some awesome RP as well.

I guess my point is, the players have chosen where they want to RP and it's Stranglethorn. /shrug. It'll change eventually.

It was a shame about Aula Arcanum. We had a great thing going on the Scryer's Tier.

Yet we did make the OOC mistake for not getting it passed by the GMs. To anyone planning on opening up the place by starting up a guild (Which I strongly, strongly suggest as the way to go) that they pass any and all idea for it by a GM.

I personally love Outlands and Shattrath. I'll start dropping characters there when I'm free and see if I can't tempt a few adventurers to the City of the Holy Light.

Well, you wouldn't necessarily have to play an "awesome level 80 hero". After all, Shatt is filled with refugees and the like.

But, I'm kind of indifferent to RP moving to Shatt. While shattrath is a really cool city, there are a ton of other cool places to RP as well. And, as so many people have said, the major RP hub isn't going to change due to a forum post.

If you find the right people you can find a good rp, I don't see why we need to move the hub elsewhere. I think the problem is some people don't like the lack of variety, but would it be any different if those 15-20 players decided to stay in Shattrath all the time too?

I personally like Booty Bay because, as mentioned, it's neutral. There's no pressure to stick to your faction and you can associate with many races. Also, the place to me is vibrant. Shattrath kinda feels a little void for my taste, too big, and the colors kinda make me sleepy. For me Booty Bay is small enough to not get lost, the jungles are beautiful and vibrant, and the atmosphere is lively enough to keep me awake.

When it comes down to it it's preference, but Booty Bay seems very rper friendly. No opposing factions to kill you, no getting lost because main cities are ridiculously huge, and no getting killed by higher level monsters out of nowhere(as long as you stick to the right places. Overall it feels like a nice, tight hub.

I am working on a roleplaying group in Shatt at the moment.

Although it is currently only open to some people within a certain alignment/storyline/guild, it will in all probability attract other people to roleplay there. Please, don't say that I should only be making this movement ICly. The forums are here for a reason.

I'm up for Shattrath RP... by habit I tend to go where most the people are but I'm completely open to different RP areas and ideas.

I miss Barens RP, and Stormwind RP. Whenever stuff gets set up again for Rensin, maybe I could do some events.

*Shrugs*

But, yeah, actually setting up Shatt RP would be a good thing to do, rather than trying to have everyone as a whole migrate there. Some people have stuff set up for -specifically- that city.

Me and Dilly have already begun some Terrokar RP on our Draenei, and the nature of the zone is simply magnificent. It feels good to break away from the main RP hubs and instead RP in a seemingly desolate area.

People, break away from the norm! There are countless areas out there with magnificent potential for RP, just waiting to be found!

Yeah, I know I shouldn't take a big role in things, but Shattrath is probebly my favorite place in Outland(After the Evo Domes) and Id be great to RP back there. Besides there's alot of diffrent RP opertnites in Outland(Take it Demon Invasion as an example) or The Void prepearing to ''Devour'' the world. The plant life and enviroment(atleast in certain places) is great for any herbalist or alchemist(like me) so I would definatly enjoy RP in Outland(mainly)

Roleplay in Shattrath would definitely be an improvement, IMO. A step forward. But making a new hub? Four steps back.

I know that people will RP where they want, but... Just gonna throw this out there. We should spread the RP. That's the problem with making events and/or big guilds. If you do that, people will flock to that single place and nothing will change, really. Whether it's Stormwind, Shattrath or whatever. It's just the location. The whole thing about everyone roleplaying in a single place just seems wrong.

So. Most of the races (with the exceptions being Dwarves, Draenei, Tauren, maybe Forsaken) have enough players dedicated to them to form racial RP communities in their own places. RPing in different locations is much more fun. And it would be easy if Blood Elves went to Quel'Thalas, Orcs to their Orcy places, Nelves to Ashenvale/Felwood/Moonglade, etc. And even then the races that tend to be ignored could get decent stuff. What's stopping Dwarves from RPing with Gnomes? Or Tauren with Orcs? If such a level of "widespread" RP was achieved, taking the roleplay to these amazing, but distant and empty places (Un'Goro, Tanaris, Deadwind, Netherstorm come to mind) wouldn't look like such a big jump either.

Yes, there's the whole "make the RP and people will come" thing. But then, as it was said before, nothing will change - except the location. The problem is that we are... I dunno, afraid to leave the hotspots because we think we will be alone if we did so. If everyone spread their RP around a little, this wouldn't happen.

Anyway. Just my opinion. :B

I've had some great fun in the bay with Inuleki, I personally enjoy role playing out in the jungle however. When creating what was intended to be a mini event yesterday a lot of people joined in, ending up with Leeva and Ventus being sold as slaves only to be bought by Ahote and Inuleki was caged up in a ship-brig to be interrogated by the cartel. It was good to see that the GM's joined in as well, all in all it was a great night of role playing. :)

With that said, I rather enjoy Booty bay RP, but seeing as I've only been around about a month I'm sure I'll grow tired of it sooner or later too. I'm all for exploring new places.

I just feel I have to say that we hae RPed in Outland for almost two months now, most of that has happened in Shattrath. And I know an orc movement are on out here. I would be glad for more to join in on RP on this shattered piece of clay. Just go check out teh links in my signature or "Search" for [DP] in the topic title.

There just seems to be hardly any characters that are at least a little 'normal' in regards to their race...So why would they want to RP in places where their race would normally be? I mean...Echo Isles looks awesome, but there are no trolls there...Then I walk around and hear people saying "f**k/Fucking/Fuckin'" in every sentence....Or I see trolls hugging up on blood elves...or groups of random mixes of races dealin' dope together...I just "lol" every time I walk into a scene that involves more then one race nowadays. Dunno, My night elf druid stays in Ashenvale...My troll stays in the Jungles of STV unless he goes into booty bay for trades...My Blood Elf stays in Silvermoon...I end up mostly role-playing with NPCs 75% of the time.

Just wish that there was more..normal..rp.... Orcs assaulting Ashenvale...Trolls doing da voodo on echo....Blood Elves doing their thing in silvermoon, maybe working to get their forests back..

I'm probably wrong though.

On a different note... My favorite places on the maps are the remote areas... The jungles of Feralis, Ungoro crater, STV, and Sholazar Basin. The forests of ashenvale, and Teldrassil...The snowy landscape of Winterspring..Then the exotic landscape of Nagrand...

I've only been around for a month too, with this place being my only experience of WoW. Something about the hub seems pretty good for those that are new, and I like how it mixes in regulars with those who are having their first experience.

After some rp in Booty Bay though I managed to find some people there and we migrated from Barrens, traveled all the way to Ashenvale and finally with this one other roleplayer I ended up in Stormwind. I had become much more used to rping by that time, so I felt like nervous at having an extended roleplay with just one guy. Maybe the problem isn't the hub-like nature of Booty Bay itself, but the unwillingness to stray from it from time to time. I think sometimes it'd be good, if only for a day, to try traveling out and invite a friend, or someone who might be new. Move around a bit, just don't stay in the tavern 24/7.

I do think a hub is good though for helping people get in to the rp. We were all new to this once, and with things uncertain BB does feel like a place where you can jump right in.

Know what I think? We should roleplay where we want when we want. If people want to spend time in Booty Bay, they can and should do so. If people want to head to Shattrath, find a like-minded group of people and head there. If people want to roleplay more in another zone, they should attempt to bring others there -- without making disparaging remarks about the people who have chosen to roleplay in Booty Bay.

My problem with the "move to Shattrath" thing is that it comes across as being a thinly veiled attempt to somehow sneer at Booty Bay roleplay. Personally, I don't bring most of my characters there (I have been there, but not often), but it's a place to roleplay, it's where people have chosen to roleplay, and it's their decision to do so. If a portion of the community doesn't like it, they don't have to spend time there. As this thread shows, there are people who agree; try to organize something with them without having it appear to be an attempt to somehow demean Booty Bay roleplayers.

Be a catalyst, not a preventer. Organize things rather than trying to force others not to do things.
