Raids on Conquest of the Horde?

Arrillion Wrote:Raiding or doing dungeons Icly is forbidden, with good reasons because rading such a place realisticly would take an entire army not just a bunch of OP adventures. It would be godmoding.

Your however free to organize OOC events to raid them.

Just curious here, I've doubled checked the set of rules on the Wiki as you state it is forbidden (aka there is a rule for it) but can't find one. It is frowned upon, way out of realism boundaries, but can't find a rule state it is forbidden and shouldn't be done. ^^ While I agree that IC raiding a place is a instant kill for the character involved, seeing the places are far too big to keep going at it, over and over till the boss is down (Characters would be wounded, dead, tired and what not before they even reach the possibly first, definitely last boss), just couldn't find the specific rule about it.

Technically, it isn't godmoding seeing that describes the interactions between two players, not between a whole group of players using game mechanics to do something out of bounds against NPC's. Though, I might have missed a bit on that page, just checking up heh?

Spoiler:
Godmoding can occur when a player describes an event or a series of events his or her character has taken against another character or interactive object, most often with the purpose of rescinding negative effects previously encountered or granting some other effect inconsistent with an objective view of the narrative. For example, a character may be afflicted with a disease only curable by rare ingredients, yet another character is "lucky" enough to find these ingredients in ten minutes.

As for lore weapons, I say remove them all together from the loot table. Prevents abuse and drama of the system.

Quote:and then Illidan sends the player a letter stating that he is, in fact, still alive.

...That had me lol'ing, I bet my character would face palm due to the fact she did all that work, survived, then returns to Stormwind and finds that in her mailbox.

True, sadly that's the same with battlegrounds heh? :( Either way, perhaps someone with all knowing scripting skills could write something? Just a thought, no clue how to actually implement it should anyone hit the right coding. I know too little about that stuff.

It's not fun if you don't enjoy getting yelled at, and don't enjoy the way that most guilds I've been in hand out loot. Are you a girl? Here's some loot. Are you friends with the guildmaster? Here's loot. Did you join this guild when it was first formed? Here's loot. That's my experience from retail. World Of Warcraft retail has in my honest opinion one of the worst online communities, probably second to 4chan but when you think about it a lot of the people on retail WoW also spend too much time on 4chan.

/end rant

I think OOC raiding on this server is fine, I've done it myself. I don't think we're capable to raid level 80 instances though because everyone is on this server to have fun, not to be a raider.

And to the guy above me, the GM's have said in character raids are a no-no. Unless the GM's set up an event.
Pain is an illusion.

Well, maybe we should set up a system where players can write a message to GM's requesting an IC raid? Thats a good solution :)

I'm not sure about IC raids, since it would be too easy for interested people to miss it. All you need to do is be busy that day, get a disconnection, not hear about it, or have inadequate gear. It's too easy to miss.

However, I'm all for OOC raids and possibly a raiding guild.

This is going well beyond what I had in mind after asking for opinions.
I just wanted to know players would be interested in raiding for fun OOCly after gathered a group on the forums.
That'sall. I think some Drama is starting to grow up here..

Also, note that this is a RP server, and as such, raids are -not- as important as RP.
And, in my opinion, ICly raids won't work.

If you make an OOC raiding guild, I will join it. Undoubtedly.

I was on a few ooc raids and I thought it was a very nice change of pace. I would say keep it occ. If it was IC I would probably be hesitant to subjecting my character to that level of risk and would not have tried it.

edit: ( I assume "Raiding" is the same thing as going though "instances" )

I'd like to suggest that if we form an OOC raiding guild, we each have a toon in it that isn't necessarily our raiding one. That way, even if our better-geared toons can't leave their IC guilds, we will still be able to communicate quickly.

I love how quickly things can get done over guild chat.

I'm in favor to the OOC raiding guild idea.
Personally, I wouldn't mind creating one on one of my spares, such as Rikhard.
Although, If someone else wants to create it, I'll withdraw on my proposal. :3

Guys. It's been said before.

You can raid ICly, but you must think realistically. You can't seriously think that a group of five people would take out the army in Deadmines that's been avoiding complete destruction from an entire army? (The one in SW). You'd need a big group for it, for example, the guild that "raided" the mine in Elwynn, and that wasn't even an instance. Commoner's party had over 50 members, I think.

However, I've raided OOCly a lot, and I think it's possible since you don't have to use the loreish weapons as lore weapons.
Azheron's back in business. For reals.

I agree with Azh, the Fargodeep mine raid by the Commoner's Party is a good example, I was in it. Even though we eventually used specific teams, of 5-10, to clear out wings of the collapsing mine, and those were kobolds that almost killed our characters for our faulty planning. Think of Scourge tactics, or more-over, Defias, there is no chance 40 men are clearing out the Deadmines, even if Sherlock Holmes, Napoleon, Stalin, and any other example for mastery in Tactics / Strategy / Combat / Thinking in general, would lead it. OOC raids are agreed, but just for farming gold for tokens or anything. Take Naxxaramas for example. No matter how many times you kill Kel'Thuzad, fact remains, Kel'Thuzad is still alive [well, Undead].

A couple of responses.

Raiding is allowed and is encouraged. If you find yourself hankering to down a couple of bosses, snag some roleplaying gear, and see more of the game, go for it! A lot of them have been organized through BarrensChat (from what I've seen) or word-of-mouth, so keep your eyes and ears open or take the initiative yourself. Remember, too, that you can invite members of the opposing faction into the raid, so that should also increase the amount of people who can join.

I have heard rumors that some scripted events in dungeons and raids are not working as intended, so that may impede your efforts.

And, because it was brought up, in-character raiding is typically frowned upon. For one, it's standing policy (written or otherwise, I don't offhand) that major, lore-changing events in the world are guided by the staff. So, while players are allowed and can organize expeditions, raids, what-have-you, we're not supposed to go into Black Temple and trounce all over Illidan so that we can claim that our characters are the saviors of Outland. It doesn't -- and shouldn't -- work that way.

Secondly, I believe that we've adopted the belief that all of the previous expansion bosses are finished. Removed. Out of the way. I know that this is the case for the vast majority of the original game; I'm uncertain if the story is complete in Outland or if it's open-ended for now.

And, finally, the idea of twenty-five (or, God forbid, ten!) people waltzing into a dungeon and trashing the place is unrealistic. Sure, our characters may have really awesome powers and abilities, but don't doubt that the other side does, too. In these dungeons, we're sometimes going after Old Gods, members of the Burning Legion, and some of the baddest mother-f-shut-your-mouth! that any world has ever spawned. It would be unreasonable to believe that a handful of strangers could do it on their own.

Regarding the items that drops, be reasonable. If you can't put in a ticket to utilize an item (for example, one of the Twin Blades of Azzinoth), you should also be able to recognize that acquiring the item on your own does not mean that you can use it. We had a thread recently that reaffirmed that the standard applied was simply being reasonable; I'm confident that the vast majority of the community has the common sense needed to follow that rule.

An idea just popped into my head. I understand that current dungeon and raid instances are too complex to properly run ICly. So here's a thought -- why not organize a PVP/raid mix? Something like a good vs. evil deal. It would probably take some work, but the idea I had was that a group of bad dudes would have their own dungeon/area set up accordingly with mobs and whatnot, then a group of good dudes (probably 10-man, 5 seems too little and 25 is downright overkill) comes in and saves the day... or something like that. It's just an outline and a lot of details are missing, but it's just an idea I had that I felt I could share.
