Server going down for character retrieval?

I made a character to check a name for my wife, and then deleted it. Now she can't make the character because it says the name is unavailable? Someone told me this will be fixed when the server crashes and comes back online. Is this true, and if so, about when could I expect it to? Hours? Days?

That's... very curious. Have her make the character with an extra letter at the end (let's say a z) and then send me a tell in-game.
