Guild Advertisements in LFG
#16
I don't see much wrong with the in-game channel. If you really are looking for a guild, it'll help out. If you don't like using OOC recruiting, I'm sure no one will force you to join the channel, just like Barrens. The idea just gives a little more free-will to all people involved in the recruitment.

Wasn't that like.. only visible when you aren't in a guild? I liked the advertisements, made me browse to the forum to see what new things are sprouting. So, I personally did not have any real problem with the advertisement on LFG, but this:

ManDudely Wrote:Might I suggest the creation of a chat channel by the name of LookingForGuild, where people interested in guild announcements can choose to opt-in and see who's advertising?

Would probably be the easiest solution to the problem, with some minor guidelines as in: "Don't go barrens crazy and spam the advert x times in a row." and such. Probably best to leave for the players, unless a GM wants to run that channel as well. ^^

Quote:Maybe we could have a "Looking for guild" subforum.

Or that, but probably less of a solution as people will just go like. "Go to ze forums yo!" whenever asking for a guild.

I vote for the custom LFGU (or LFG 2.0) channel if it's available for any voting.

I agree, and I prefer this kind of guild advertising. But I also believe were not here to force people to RP like we want, and if people were taking a more casual stance with their RP, as long as they are sticking to the rules and lore, we shouldn't stop them from advertising this way if that's how they like to work. :)

I honestly don't get what so terrible about advertising an guild over OOC channels, nine out of ten times the actual recruitment is set up and done ICly, so what's the big deal?.. It's merely an way of informing people that there might be an ideal guild for them out there, and from my point of view is the same as using LFG for looking for RP posts. Your informing people OOCly that you want RP, it's set up OOCly and do it ICly. If you hadn't broadcasted the "Looking for RP" post, the chances of getting actual RP in a place that has none at that moment would be very slim, same as with guilds.

Any-ho, as Miah said.

Let's let people decide for themselves eh? I still vote for the LFG 2.0 as alternative. (Looking for guild channel) ^.^

It is superbly hard trying to keep up a guild by only recruiting in IC manners. Why? Because it's SLOW. People get impatient.

OOC Advertisement has it's pros. If you have a character, and you want him to be in a guild, you may not always be on that exact character when an opportunity to full such wish arises. That is why, when you see the OOC advertisement of the fore mentioned dream guild, you may log on to this character and have this join. However, without the ad, the opportunity would have passed.

Well.. OOC recruiting seems silly as this isnt retail. Where guilds are necesary due to simple facts that you only get every 10th player only who might be even willing to do any RP at all, and even hen 75% of those, are characters either way outside of Warcraft lore or bastard child of major Warcraft lore figure.

Here everyone is not only expected to RP at all times, but also willing to. So the guilds are only a IC thing why not recruit IC?

Wut? Since when is that a rule? I'm OOC plenty of times, simply chatting or grinding for gold. Being IC and roleplaying is not a requirement on here Saint, unless I missed an rule change. And as far as I know, recruitment is done solely IC but only the advertisement is send over the channel. I'm not saying you should come here for PvE or PvP, but your free to do any of those options.

If we are supposed to solely recruit IC, you could also say that you are solely allowed to express your need for RP in a certain place ICly, as without the message on the LFG chat, you could wait for a long time and end up RPing with yourself.

McKnighter Wrote:Well, there is a problem with that for some guilds. Normally, I'm not going to be walking around IC yelling about the Echo of Despair. It's only mention in hushed whispers in the Catacombs. Hard to RP that out when most people are doing their own thing down there.

The Echo are meant to be a secret Guild, yes? Yet, when advertising OOCly, it seems just about anyone will randomly turn up in the Catacombs, knocking on Redis's door for an invite. I think it's escpecially appropriate for secret guilds to have 'recruiters' to hang around in cities, or wherever people RP, for the purpose of spotting candidates and luring them away, rather than OOC adverts that will attract any and all while ruining the veil of secrecy. A mage would be best for this, what with the teleporting and such.

EDIT;
Just so it's clear, I'm not attacking the Echo personally, your circumstances just made a good example for my point. Nor am I trying to dictate how you -should- recruit. Just ideas.

Well, this is actually how it's going down for now.

Secretive, yes, the Echo of Despair is. We're only sticking to the Catacombs for now. We -are- recruiting ICly, via rumors and whispers that are going through the Catacombs (Pretty sure we're the only active guild down there.)

The -only- way you would be recruit right now, is by our single outside recruiter, or by knocking on our door to pass some trials. /nod
