Soulstones; are they just an in game mechanic?

As the title says, are soulstones an in game mechanic or could a warlock actually bind his own soul into a soulstone and get an extra life?

also; why can a warlock take someone's soul and they're perma-dead but the warlock takes his own soul and he gets an extra life?

Could a person who has lost a soul to the warlock live on as a thrall to the warlock?

What effect does a soulstone/gem/shard have on a warlock power wise?

1) You don't bind your own soul into a soulstone. You bind someone else's soul, and that soul is used to give you life if you die again.

2) You can't perma-kill somebody, so that's a no. Read #1. They don't use their own soul.

3) Taking someones soul kills them, so that'd be a no.

4) None. Soulstones just give them a free resurrect button.

Of course, there are people more knowledgeable in Warlocks then myself (I teech u how 2 b durid), so their perspective would be appreciated.

Oh, wait. You're good, Flying. Except, that a Warlock -can- place their own soul in a Soulstone. It does not kill one, unless the Soulstone is not in direct contact with the body to which it belongs. It cannot be used to enslave someone, as taking the Soulstone off of their person once you make it kills them.

Soulstones regenerate as healthstones do, by my kenning, except that in conjunction to their use as a temporary vessel for the soul is its direct purposing in bringing you back from the dead.

I do not believe they quite work if you are however, say, decapitated. I imagine that to rather screws matters up.

EDIT2: Perhaps a relevant thought on my end would be the ponder as to if a soulstone resurrection counts as a death and subsequent resurrection by CotH's due process, or a battlefield bump in which the Warlock/ally-of-a-Warlock doesn't count as dead until they're slain again and with a shred more permanency?

Matters considered, how does one regard the instantaneous back-from-beyond-the-brink of Warlocks and Druids?

Would they still necessitate resurrection threads if they got back up in the middle of a fight? Can they even be so?

Am I just not thinking straight in my exceptionally sleep-deprived state?

It -does- count as a ressurection, by CotH's standards. They're incredibly weak for some time after revival; remember, the Warlock's soul was torn from his body, placed in a gem, then forced back into the body. It is not a pleasant experience. I tend to portray this by reviving the character immediately, then puttin them into a coma for however long is required.

That would quite work, in my opinion. However, do keep in mind that that recovery period, on CotH, lasts seven days, at bare minimum.
