Five years ago:

Dear Therinan,

When will you be coming home? I'm here in Auberdine right now, hoping that one of these days, the ship that comes here will be the one that you're on. You must get sick of all the letters that I write to you, I know that I write a lot of them, but I love you, and I just want to make sure that you're all right. I got your last letter, and you said that you were in Ironforge right now. I'm glad that you're enjoying yourself. Dwarves seem like interesting, if strange creatures, but then again, aren't they all?

My days lately have been mostly composed of training, just working with my bow and with my sword. It's repetitive, and perhaps somewhat tedious at times, but I enjoy it for the most part. I know that my training will help me to become a better sentinel, so I continue to do it so that I'll be able to do the best I can to help my sisters. If only you could see how far I've come since you left.

I went to go and climb a tree yesterday and I found a nest full of owlets. They were small, like little puffs of grey feathers with eyes. I was careful not to disturb them, lest their mother came back in a rage, but I perched myself in the branches so that I could watch them. They seem so delicate. It's interesting, given how regal they seem when they become full-grown.

I'm glad that you're making new friends in the Eastern Kingdoms. Perhaps when you come back to Kalimdor, you can bring some of them with you, so that I can meet them. Where are you planning to go after you leave Ironforge? Please write back to me soon. You know that your letters make me happy.

I miss you.

Sincerely, Tarana.

Tarana held the paper up to her face and blew on it gently, the ink on the page drying and becoming smooth. She started to fold it up, but she hesitated, reading what she had written again, mulling it over in her mind. She sighed heavily, and put it into the envelope.

Her last letter from Therinan had arrived the previous day, after she came back from her training. It was all that she could do to contain her excitement before she wrote the next letter. She spent all night trying to think of what she should say, and all of the next morning writing it. Therinan had left for Stormwind several months before, and they had remained in constant contact, each one writing a letter as soon as they arrived. Receiving another letter always made Tarana's day brighter.

As she went outside, she clutched the silver crescent hanging from her neck. It was Therinan's parting gift to her, and she hadn't taken it off since he gave it to her. As he had given it to her, he had leaned forward with that characteristic, adventurous smirk of his.

"Don't worry, sister. I'll be back soon."

Tarana gave the envelope to the courier, went back inside the house, and waited for her brother to come home.
