Demonifuge
#1
Before a certain few throw rocks at me for not making a Pride guild-post...

Demonifuge

Spoiler:
"The Burning Crusade is a vast war of destruction with the goal of razing every world that had been ordered and shaped by the ancient Titans. It is a great war that rages beyond the ken of normal mortals. The universe houses innumerable worlds, and the Burning Legion currently invades a handful of them. Most mortals are blind to this secret conflict, but the wisest and strongest know of it - and some are heroes and leaders in this war. Champions from Azeroth and many other worlds battle across the cosmos, attempting to drive back the Burning Legion and keep the embattled planets safe from demonic corruption. Theirs is a desperate, epic war, and they welcome any who would join them. Beings of all sorts join forces - humans and draenei fight alongside orcs, high elves alongside night elves. Old rivalries are thrown aside in the face of the ominous legion."
-Shadows & Light
^----- The quote that inspired it all.

^----- A theme.

Formed during the campaign to retake the Sunwell under the command of Thaura Shatterstar, Demonifuge - a unit of Shattered Sun Offensive troops - currently works for the singular purpose of fighting back demonic corruption on Draenor's shattered remains.

The goals are deceptively simple: Kill demons and fel-corrupted creatures.

IC rules(Apply only to the Demonifuge's members):
1. In-fighting will not be tolerated.
2. Corruption and taint will not be tolerated.
3. Failure to respect the chain of command, and reasonable orders will not be tolerated.

For the failure to obey any and all of the aforementioned, the penalty is execution. A dead trooper is better than an uncooperative one that gets in the way. This is, in part, taken from IRL military organizations - in general, court martials give the harshest possible punishments to the majority of military crimes.

OOC rules(Apply to everyone on the battlefield):
1. Respect the Server Rules and Policies (Are-ee-ess-pee-ee-see-tee especially).
2. No PvP. At all.
3. Happiness is mandatory, soldier-I mean, have fun!
4. Kill things and be epic while doing it?... It's not really a rule, more like an individual option, but...

Recruitment:

~Demonifuge will NOT take in Shadow Priests, Warlocks, Death Knights, or any characters of Evil alignment. Similarly, Forsaken will be treated with distrust. That means both IC and OOC. Call it personal preference.
~There will be a screening process... You have been warned.
~Recruitment will take place in Shattrath most(If not all) of the time.
~The reason for recruiting is that few really bother joining the Shattered Sun as a whole, and Demonifuge is in need of people to fight. I.E. Players.
~Consider well that dedicating yourself to fighting the Burning Legion is a... pretty daunting task, to put it lightly.

Currently, what Demonifuge wants are:
-Draenei
-Light-wielding Blood Elves
-One Battle-Mage
-A Technology specialist
-A Dwarf. What? I like Dwarves... Plus, they make awesomery happen quite often
-Other people that hate the Burning Legion and would kill them out of vengeance and/or money.

Combat System!

-Basics: /roll 100. Crits at 50 points over enemy defense/difficulty.
-Death is purely voluntary unless otherwise specified. (Read: Unless you're fighting a Boss-type enemy, you will simply be knocked out.)

HPs:
Spoiler:
~Cloth: 5 HP.
~Leather: 6 HP.
~Mail: 7 HP (Do note, that mail bikini will not be treated as real mail armor, instead gaining only the HP benefits of Cloth. Demons aren't stupid. They can and will attack the most vulnerable parts of a person's body, and will not be distracted by your +5 Thong of Shielding.)
~Plate: 8 HP. (See above.)
~Shields: +1 HP.

Attacking!

Melee:
~1h/shield:
Spoiler:
Normal attacks. Critical hits are scored when the attack roll is 50 points greater than the defense/difficulty roll of an enemy, and they deal double damage.

Example: Jake swings at the Succubus!
Jake rolls 75!
Succubus rolls 23!
Jake Crits! The Succubus takes 2 points of damage!

~Dual Wield:
Spoiler:
1 Normal Attack, 1 Half-Attack(The attack roll of the first blow is halved.). Dual Wielders cannot score Critical Hits. The explanation for this is that they need to focus on both weapons at once, and this lowers accuracy enough that the fine-tuning of striking at the most vulnerable parts of an enemy is lacking.

Example: Jake swings his mightly swords at the Voidwalker!
Jake rolls 60!
The Voidwalker rolls 20!
Jake manages to wound the Voidwalker with both weapons! (First attack is a 60 roll, while the second is considered half that: 30. Both are greater than 20.)
The Voidwalker takes 2 points of damage!

~2h:
Spoiler:
1 Normal Attack. Massive Criticals, dealing triple damage instead of double.

Example: Jenny readies her claymore and swings at the Felguard!
Jenny rolls 80!
The Felguard rolls 30!
Jenny Crits! The Felguard takes 3 points of damage!

Magic:
Spoiler:
Magic attacks of all forms use Normal Attacks, and score normal Critical Hits.

Example: Vivian shoots the Imp with her trusty fireball!
Vivian rolls 50!
The Imp rolls 25!
Vivian hits the imp for 1 point of damage!

Ranged:
Spoiler:
Ranged attacks are split between Guns and Bows.
~Guns use the 2h weapon Massive Criticals(x3 damage on a crit) rules. This is due to the fact that bullets can shatter on impact, splattering the inside of a wound with extremely damaging shrapnel.

Example: Ben aims his rifle carefully at the Fel-guard and fires!
Ben rolls 60!
The Fel-guard rolls 10!
The Fel-guard takes 3 points of damage!

~Bows use the Dual Wield(1 + 1/2 attacks) rules. They cannot crit, due to the fact that they must pay attention to the laws of trajectory, velocity and range a great deal more than rifle users. Plus, the more you hold a bow drawn, the worse your accuracy is.

Example: Jack nocks an arrow and fires at the Felhunter!
Jack rolls 80!
The Felhunter rolls 30!
The Felhunter takes 2 points of damage! (Because 80 > 30. And 40 > 30 so it is still considered a hit.)

Additional Rules of Engagement:

~AoE(Mage, Priest, Paladin, Druid, Hunter and Shaman only):
Spoiler:
Area of Effect attacks can be used once per Event and cannot affect more than three enemies. Only one Attack roll is made. AoE can score Critical Hits.

Example: Simon the Druid raises his hands towards the sky, where thundering clouds form, a storm erupting in them! Lightning crackles down for the three Succubi!
Simon the Druid rolls 70!
Succubus 1 rolls 25!
Succubus 2 rolls 50!
Succubus 3 rolls 75!
Succubi 1 and 2 take 1 point of damage! Succubus 3, however, manages to dodge Simon's lightning!

~The Netherwind(Mage only):
Spoiler:
Magi can yank energy straight from the Twisting Nether to fire off an empowered spell at an enemy. This will deal double damage, and can critically hit. Only one Attack roll is made. If the attack roll is lower than 20(A one-in-five chance), the spell still works and deals damage, but it also summons more enemies from the Nether, drawn by the reckless use of the Arcane...

Example: Jimmy the sorcerer channels power dirrectly from the Nether and flings a massive, gurgling fireball for the Felguard!
Jimmy the sorcerer rolls 15!
The Felguard rolls 10!
The Felguard takes 2 points of damage! But what's this? Where the spell impacted, three imps have been summoned to the battlefield!

~Healing:
Spoiler:
Every healer can heal 2 times per event.
1-25: Heals 1 HP.
25-85: Heals 2 HP.
85-100: Heals 3 HP.

Example: Shirley channels the Light into Jenny, attempting to mend her wounds!
Shirley rolls 75!
Jenny is healed by 2 HP!

~Help:
Spoiler:
Sometimes, the party can't do it alone. They just can't. Therefore, allies are called in to kick a bit of tail. Helpers are always successful in their attacks. The gist of the matter is that only the Commander of an event can call in help, and that it can only be used once per event. Also, the allies summoned don't stay. They do their job, then go about their way. They have business too, you know...

-Altharaku & Akuresu(CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE): Two Nether Drakes, befriended by the company. They swoop down over the battlefield and deal either an AoE of 3 points of damage, or a single-target 6 points of damage, before flying off.
-LoRA: Long Range Artillery; The same rules as above. Beware falling cannonballs.
-??? - This ally has not yet been discovered or gained.

Enemies:

-Mooks:
Spoiler:
Mooks are the random, nameless troops in the Legion's employ. They're treated as having only 1 HP and attack everyone, en-masse. They don't roll. Instead, a difficulty number for each round is assigned, which counts as the defense and attack roll for every mook on the battlefield. Mooks generally don't Crit PCs.

Example: A gang of imps surround the party! They fling firebolts as soon as they're able to do so!
The DM says: Roll over 30 to kill one, and over 80 kills two. Under 30, however, and you get hit by a Firebolt.

-Liutenants:
Spoiler:
Liutenants have a set number of HPs, and each Liutenant has its individual attack round, determined by initiative rolls at the start of combat. They're treated as players are, unless otherwise noted.

-Bosses:
Spoiler:
Bosses are the tougher hunks of cheese this side of the Nether. They require collaboration to take down - usually in fair numbers. These are preeetty hard to kill off, and as such, they do not have HP. If they aren't hit constantly, they will literally never die. Instead, as they are hit, they gain penalties to attack and defense. If both penalties reach -100, then they die. They can also be killed by a full round of successful hits, meaning that if every one of your party can whack the fel out of a Boss, blow by blow, they will expire at the end of the round.

~Upgrades:

-Armor:
Spoiler:
None. No armor upgrades have been found nor bought.
-Weapons:
Spoiler:
None. No weapon upgrades have been found nor bought.
-Magic:
Spoiler:
None. No magic upgrades have been found nor bought.

-Allied Organizations: Allied organizations benefit from the upgrades that Demonifuge does, as well. Non-Allied troops do not gain any benefit from upgrades.
Spoiler:
-The Crimson Templars - For valor shown in combat on multiple occasions.
-Deepriver Labs - For multiple instances of aid in both material and personnel.

-Allied Individuals: Allied individuals benefit from the upgrades that Demonifuge does, as well. Non-Allied individuals do not gain any benefit from upgrades.
Spoiler:
-Abby/Abigail - For valor shown in combat on multiple occasions.
(You didn't think we'd forget, did you?)
-Nexi/Nexariel - For valor shown in combat on multiple occasions.

-Auras: Auras benefit all the troops on the battlefield, but they require the presence of either a relic or artifact or an individual to be active.

Spoiler:
-The Aegis of Annora; From CDR Thaura Shatterstar. "Have you ever felt that things were just meant to go right? That you were born to do great things with your hands? That you live for this very moment, here and now?... Here is where we make our stand, for better or for worse. They cannot win."

Effects: +1 to number of Heals per Healer. +5 to all Party defense rolls.

-Unanswered Prayers; From Ranger Vianna Dovecall. "The Divine hear all prayers, whether we know it or not. Their effects aren't immediate, as the wisdom of the Eternals grants them only in our darkest hours."

Effects: Once per Event, every member of the party can state that their next attack will be an Answered Prayer. The attack does not need to be rolled for. Instead it will be an automatic critical hit.

~Resources(RU): Resources are used by the unit to buy upgrades, research relics and artifacts, call some allies, or execute Med-evacs. They, like artifacts, relics, and access to upgrades, are gained by doing what Demonifuge does best: Killing demons.
~Current RU: 2750.

~Med-Evac:
Spoiler:
A Medical Evacuation, or Med-Evac, happens when all the members of the party have either been knocked out or killed. Magi back in Shattrath are paid to summon their unconscious bodies back to base, and healers are also paid to tend to them, giving first aid, mending wounds, or preparing for a resurrection(According to the Resurrection Guidelines), as the case may be.
-A Med-Evac costs 1000 RU.

--------------------End--------------------

Note:
-All participants in any and all combat events will be Players, with the sole exception of those listed under the 'Help' section. No, there will be no leading NPC armies into war. That would spoil the fun for the players involved.

-GHI copies of the Roll-Combat system may be provided for ease of use in events. Just so you don't have to alt-tab to the guild page if you're having trouble remembering what you've got to do.

-Events are meant to happen in quick, short bursts. The only things that should take more than 30-60 minutes would be bosses. But they're incredibly rare.

-Suggestions are welcome.

-Current After-action report: 'The Chains of Freedom', had the Demonifuge and her allies free a number of Nether Drakes, which now attempt to obliterate the Fel-Orc forces, before the heroes move for the head of the beast: The Fel-Orc Warlord.
~RU gained: 550.

Heheh. It's just that their following of Shadow and/or Power over Morality isn't very well-regarded as far as the more Light-wielding races are concerned.

But yeah. I've known Skaar for ages. And aside from being foul-mouthed and moderately distrusted, he might be fun.

Thanks. But if you do bring back Atun, keep the Scimitar, all right?

Indeed. That is the main source of inspiration for the roll-combat system. Only, instead of devoting ourselves to individual materials as far as resources are concerned, the focus fell on general 'RU'.

My namesake would tag along, if you would have him!

Most certainly. Vindicator Xigo is welcome.

A question, though. Would you like him to be a part of the guild itself, or an independent Allied Individual?

For the latter, all you have to do is be there for events. For the former, however, formal recruiting happens.

In both cases, there's a trade-off. Enlisting is faster, but then you've got to follow the unit's rules, whereas Allying takes time/participation, but you're not bound by the rules of the unit.

Colour me interested. Does being a demon hunter count as taint and or corruption?

Hmm, would you be willing to have along a sniper from the Sons of Lothar?

Indeed. It counts as Fel-taint. They develop demonic features, etc.
Not to mention the little affair with the soul of a demon.

aroes Wrote:Hmm, would you be willing to have along a sniper from the Sons of Lothar?

Indeed. As a matter of fact, Thaura herself was in the Sons of Lothar. So, he'd be quite well-received.

Eh. Xigo would simply be an independant ally. The fact that this guild will recruit from Forsaken/Blood Elves/Orcs (... He's really racist) would make him not want to join. But its cause would make him want to team up from time to time.

Oooh... I'll have Nex join as an independent ally.

I do have a question regarding the auras. Are the two listed the only ones allowed during battle?

Fin'thori will definitely be a part of this; He was a member of both the Sons of Lothar, and the Shattered Sun Offensive. As an Elven Ranger, and Greenhorn of the Farstriders, he will gladly represent his group. That, and he's been hunting demons since the Second War.

It'd be great.

As for the auras themselves, for now they're the only ones, yes. As Player Characters 'grow' in the Unit's eyes, they'll most likely end up with auras of their own. This is meant to encourage continued participation, much like the Ally system.

Moreover, relics and artifacts found/researched and carried into battle may have an aura effect. This was inspired by how IRL, some armies would carry sacred relics with them in battle, believing that they would grant them favor in combat.

Certainly. We'd be glad to have him.

I'm just wondering, since I'll be using a ranged character. What's the benefit? At this point, I'm more likely to have my Ranger rush into combat with his swords, so he can do more damage in the end, than if he was using his bow. Will the NPCs take longer to reach a ranged fighter, or is it just a fighting style which puts the player at a disadvantage?

Also, will there be any sort of disadvantage to mail and plate wearers? It seems that the best character would be a Paladin with a two hander, because they have a large sum of HP, and high damage output, while a mage has... Well, almost nothing going for them. Their damage isn't higher than that of the Paladin's, and they'll be dying much faster.
