"Aha! There it is."
Kaghuros threw aside a pair of matched glaives, reaching gleefully for what lay below. A large crescent-moon pendant lay atop a mithril chain shirt, the links deformed along one side from what must have been a truly fearsome blow. As he held the two items up into the light, Kaghuros began to remember how he had acquired the pair.
"Broadaxe, look out!"
Kaghuros leaped to the side, covering his face and skidding through the loamy earth. He turned to look at his would-be combatant. The shout, he knew, came from Longtusk, who had just been locked in combat with one of the Sentinels. The other Orc was running headlong into that same Elf, who, only moments ago, had been rushing for Kaghuros' own exposed chest.
The Sentinel came around to face Longtusk, dancing nimbly away from his mace as it plummeted down with a crunch where she had been standing a moment ago. Deftly, she speared one of her three-pronged glaives into the Orc's chest, spinning and plunging the other into his back.
"Longtusk!"
Kaghuros was running, his vision burning red at the edges as the blood rage took him. Feet turned into miles as the world crawled forward.
The moments came in flashes. Kaghuros raised his axe. The Sentinel turned, ripping her bloodied blades free. A bellowing cry welled up out of the red darkness. The Sentinel raised her blades. An axe fell. An Elf followed. Blood washed the dusky earth.
With a final whispered prayer, Kaghuros threw the chain shirt into the furnace with the rest of the melting mithril. It would be reborn in fire, ready to serve its new owner.
