About Tormentors and the Shadow Realm
#1
Quote:The next step is to receive instruction from a high-ranking member of the Ebon Blade. This instructor does not need to be a tormentor, simply someone who is well accustomed to the shadow Plane and the magic a Death Knight wields. Once the Aspirant has suitable wooed the teacher, they will receive instruction on what they must do.

The teacher will inform the Aspirant that they must cross into the Shadow Plane and remain there for a month, where they will be cut off from the outside world and be forced to survive.

From what I know, only really powerful Death Knights can go and/or send others into the Shadow Realm. ICC-powerful ones. And I´ll assume we're -not- allowed to play these.
So I was wondering how is a Death Knight supposed to go into the Shadow Plane?

((This will help me in future for my custom DK prestige class that I wanna make))

Well, the trainer will actually send your Death Knight to the Plane of Shadow, where you'll have to learn the ways of the Force/Shadow alone. Once reaching Tormentor-level abilities, though, it's within your power to do it yourself, and I imagine that's how you'll get back, after a month. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'ICC-powerful', though.

Both Koltira Deathweaver and Salanar the Horseman have shown the ability to send the player to the Realm of Shadows. You just have to create an NPC for your trainer that has the same ability.

That's my impression, anyway. Take it with salt.

Then I guess I can create a NPC for sending my DK in the Shadow Realm for becoming a Death Reaver (the DK prestige class I wanna create), too ?

I don't see why not, if it's the same procedure. If we do it for Tormentors, shouldn't be an issue.

I can't imagine a problem with that part of the custom prestige.

Not up to me, however.

Now another thing.
I've been led to believe something like the following happens.
(Warning. Beginning with a scream.) Click on 7:30 and listen carefully, especially after 8:15.
(Warning. Beginning with a scream.) Click on 7:30 and listen carefully, especially after 8:15.
Now if you´ve played the game, or got it, the Spirit Realm = the Shadow Realm, so when the soul can´t hold the body any longer, the soul returns to the Spirit/Shadow Realm.

So I´ve been wondering if that can be true for Death Knights.

I don't think so.

I've never played the game so I'm just going by what I've seen right here, but they don't seem to be the same thing at all.

You don't simply enter the Shadow Plane when you get weakened/die/whatever. It's like most magic in Azeroth; it doesn't happen accidentally. It has to be intentional. You don't accidentally teleport while trying to throw a fireball, for instance.

And, at least to my knowledge, the Shadow Plane isn't Heaven/Hell for DKs. You don't go there when you die. When you die, you...die.

Helpful, I know.

Where did you hear that was what happened?

Spoiler:
You should totally play the games, they´re just.. <3
Thanks for the info, it was really helpful, despite what you´d think.
I can´t really remember where I´ve heard of that; I know I´ve been talking with somebody about this, and it gave me the idea.

Another thing:
Quote:Unliving

The process to become a tormentor infuses the target with so much Shadow energy that their body ‘dies’. They now smell, exude a necrotic aura and have signs of visible necrosis.
How in the hell is this possible?
From what I know, the shadow that encircles a Death Knight´s body keeps it -from- decaying. It must mean that too much Shadow is harmful and, instead, makes the body rot? Which is just...

EDIT:
Also..
Quote:* Unliving

The process to become a Tormentor turns them undead, robbing them of the need to sleep, eat or breathe. They no longer feel pain.
... Death Knight are -already- undead?

Spoiler:
I'll keep that in mind next time I dig up my emulator.

Alrighty, lemme try this.

/deep breath

Unliving: From what I can gather, Death Knights are 'powered', essentially, by shadow energy. Maybe even the Plane of Shadow itself.
Like a battery. A really dark battery.
However, say that they get overloaded by this shadow energy. Their body/corpse can't handle all of the extra power it's receiving, and consequently starts to break down. Hence the decay.

Look at Graven Ones, for instance. They're still alive (some of them, anyway) but their use of shadow/necromancy has given them the Decay ability. Their bodies are breaking down from the extensive shadow use, but they haven't stopped functioning.
Perhaps it just means they smell from all the corpses they've interacted with, but who knows.

As for the other section of Unliving...I've got nothing.

Most (all now, from this point) DKs are undead. The DK I play is undead. However, I still emote her feeling pain when attacked; not because she actually feels it, but because it triggers old memories of pain.

Phantom pain, if you will. Similar to how amputees sometimes still get feeling from their missing limbs.

Say you go Tormentor, though. Or Death Reaver, as it is. Now you can eliminate that from all but light-based attacks, and just be completely relentless until you lose your last hit point and just shut down.

My characters get tired and lose efficiency as fights go on. Most should. I emote accordingly for them. Even my Death Knight knows when she's hurting. As a Tormentor, though, that would disappear.

Disclaimer: the vast majority of the above text is pure speculation.

Edit: And you're welcome! This is fun. I need brain exercises this early.

Shadow is peculiar. It heals unliving and kills the living. It is the anti-thesis to life. As such, anyone living who manipulates non-Faith based Shadow will begin to rot, I.E What happens to a Necromancer. Eventually they will expire. In the case of the Death Knight, such a thing as death will not stop them...Simply transform them.

Also, server fanon has a lot to say about living death knights.

@JVNemesis
Spoiler:
The Legacy of Kain games are also on the PC, and they don´t have very high requirements.
Thank you very much, both of you, you´ve been a great help. Now, back to Death Reaver work.

But if you want to ask anything, or add, feel free. :D
