Variant/Free-form Stuff for a Priest

What I'm trying to point out is that you're essentially inventing the idea of light + technology = stuff that works, and there's no lore to back it up.

There is one of the answers in the "Ask the CDevs #2" stuff:

Quote:Q: Why are gnomes suddenly interested in the Light?

A: The gnomes have had an interest in the Light since they joined the Alliance, but they were so focused on technology and, later, the retaking of Gnomeregan that studying the Light didn't feel necessary to them; the dwarven priests and paladins of Ironforge served as the only connection to the Light they needed. Now that the gnomes have reclaimed a foothold in Gnomeregan and begun rebuilding their culture outside of Ironforge, however, they've recognized the importance of having followers of the Light in their own ranks. In addition, researching new methods of purifying irradiated gnomes has led to radical advances in Light-based technology!

The last line in particular pretty much states that Light plus tech can equal working stuff.

Quote:Or manipulate it in ways she can't, say...a network of Light to shield a large area via various nodes.

...I actually really like this idea. Isn't it similar to the principle of 3D rendering?

(Well, wireframe.)

Something like this?

Indeed!

Rather than making a full dome of Light, simply connect the nodes.

You'd have to find a way to make it fill in the polygons, but even a net cage of Light is an effective defence.

It seems to me that such a design is far less effective than actual creating a barrier around said locations. The small beams of light would offer little protection to the person in the cage other than preventing others from entering such an area.

I do not believe that technology can enhance a divine caster's abilities. If you can not create a barrier around your allies normally, you would not be able to do so via the use of engineering in my opinion. Besides for an average human priest... I am unsure if technology would be considered an effective for their powers to be used.

http://www.wowpedia.org/Divine Wrote:Effectively wielding divine power requires tremendous conviction; the dedication required to achieve such perfect faith is a lifelong pursuit. Unlike arcane spellcasters who believe that power exists to be taken, divine spellcasters must constantly affirm that they are worthy of their gifts. They must be certain that they are properly honoring their gods, philosophies, ancestors or convictions.

Surely it makes some sense for a gnomish priest to mix the use of technology with divine power due to their race's natural inclination towards using it. Humans however have a traditional way of using the Light and have undergone a long and hard period of training to learn how they may properly use their holy gifts for serving the greater good.

Unlike Arcane magic, Divine magic does require your character to be certain that they are using their gifts to serve their philosophy in the best way. For an average priest I don't see technology mixing with helping people.

I am not opposed to the idea, don't get me wrong, it just seems... Unlikely for a human priest in my opinion.

Again, only one priest here. And that's just an idea to be perfected as I think on this.

Here's another idea I had. Anna is only 22 years old, and weakened to a degree from dieing once. Her faith is fine (for her age), but casting still requires effort and energy.

Solution?

A staff, with a charged crystal at its bottom. A lever is pulled, collapsing the staff's head. Insert more mechanical shenanigans here, the Light energy is amplified through a crystal lens or two, and BOOM out it flies. See: spellguns.

Perhaps a Holy Nova is fired long distance at a crowd of allies in trouble? The potential is endless.

I'll agree with you for the older generation of priests. But, Anna is fairly young. I figure an upstart youngin' might have some new ideas.

Working on background every time I re-read this forum, trust me.

Well, where would the power come from? I'm pretty sure there's no example of someone storing Holy Light in an object for an indefinite time.

Again, spellguns. You cast the spell on the crystal, it stores it, fires it as a beam.

Beams suck, so I don't think it's too far of a stretch for a crystal to exist that'd hold say, five charges?

As well, blessed items do such.

So, she'd be doing Naaru engineering? And Blessed Items are a passive thing, this is something doing it whenever you want it to.

Are crystals only Naaru engineering? I don't think crystals are exclusive to draenei and/or Naaru. Azeroth has plenty. If there is another item capable of "holding" a spell, she'll use that.

Case in point, the crystals in Un'Goro.
They're magical.

Well, there are items like this, but as I said, that's a passive effect. I think you could do something like a giant wand, but I don't know if a wand's ever been used for healing someone.

EDIT: And Binkle, they're also from the Titans.
