Commissions for a broken car lock and late paycheck
#16
Commissions like this usually don't charge on an hourly basis but more on the finished product itself. We could debate it all we want but it should also be noted that Immy does have to compete with a lot of other artists, some of which charge even less.

Deviantart isn't a great place to make commissions at times anyways. You get a lot of teenagers who'd have to ask their parents first and so on. I heard that furaffinity is actually a good place to get some commissions if you do furry art and you do it well, which is Immy's case, but she'd have to build up a bit of a base there.

I think I might make a thread about selling art without derailing this one.
Anyway, do you do your pics at 300dpi, Immy?

Maybe we could all have a thread where each of us posts our commission information.

I must admit too I'm in a huge bind for money and I'm hoping to get more of them. x:

First off, I don't mind debate occuring in my thread. If anything, it allows me perspective on options concerning where I can find work.

I -have- considered offering my art for real world businesses, and in fact, there is one who is looking for artists right now: a karate school looking for an artist who can paint a logo on the wall. This is a far cry from digitally colored character art, which is my area of specialty (and what I -am- advertising for), but nevertheless, I'll take what I can. Logo painting is no problem, really. It's all a matter of scale.

I am fully aware that deviantART is one of the worse places to ask for commissions, but in my experience, other artists can feel the pain of low money and would contribute out of the kindness of their own hearts. I have been approached for donations rather than just commisions, which I am eternally grateful for.

As much as I have a special dislike for FurAffinity, I have learned that furry fans are often very willing to pay obscene amounts of money just for simple character art--CappnRob and I had a friend who would do a 10 minute sketch and be paid $30 for it, no questions asked. Manipulative as that sounds, if my own experience with furries would tell me anything, it doesn't sound far from the truth.

Spoiler:
Ahem. I can do skanky. And worse >.> <.< >.>;;.

As for pics at 300 dpi, I'm not sure. But I color my images in generally very high resolution before they are rescaled.

From personal experience, it's easiest if you can snag a projector. Copy the proposed logo to a transparency, display it on the wall with the projector, and then trace out the initial lines. From there, you can proceed as you normally would.

I painted a lot of walls at the Academy...

Just avoid the furaffinity forums. There the people feel very overly entitled and lots of artists jump at a spot if it opens. It's usually like "I have $10, what can this get me?" and then it's a contest to see who can do the most for the most pennies. It's kind of sad, actually. The artists there are desperate to work and the commissioners act holier than thou.

Ah, that's usually a make or break for me. I like to send my commissions off for printing. But then I figure if you make them big and then rescale them later, they might be proper before rescale. I'll talk about it more once I figure out what I actually want.

Anyway, I compiled this thread of actual sites where people can peddle commissions to people actually looking to buy things. dA journals are nice and all, but it helps to have more places to market-- especially places where people come expecting to spend their moolah. Beer

A to-do list has been added. I'm only posting the COTH list.

Oh, dear.... a reminder!

If you're paying via credit card on Paypal, there will be additional fees. They're very little, though: to pay for an $8.00 commission, for example, would require $.55 worth of fees, making a total of $8.55. I hope this doesn't alarm people.

I have begun commissions already, but sadly, tax season is coming on, so the best times for me to draw are late nights, when I'm usually RPing. Nevertheless, I hope to complete these soon.

I do not do commissions in the order they're given to me, but by the availability of references at the time I am drawing (as I travel often) and the amount of detail the commission is paid for. Therefore, I apologize if you happen to wait longer for a commission after I completed someone who requested one after you.

The To-Do list has been updated. :)

A (delayed by a few days) update on the carlock situation:

It turns out my car was a lot more messed up than I thought it was. During the weekend, it started making wheezing sounds and it became more difficult to start. Turns out, my car was on the verge of breaking down, period. It is now, and still is today, at the shop undergoing repairs.

The good news as far as finances go.... My dad agreed to cover everything. But the bad.... ohhhh, god, the bad.

Bad news is that, even if it's JUST my carlock being broken and the rest of my car is doing fine, financially I'm doing a lot, lot more worse than I thought. I got my paycheck.... and it turns out the pay rate is MUCH lower than what I was initially shown. The paycheck, which should arrive once a month, covers two months of work in which November and December was combined... and it barely scrapes the amount of just -monthly gas-. That's right. I am losing more money going to work than I am having income.

The search for a second job, one that will hopefully replace this one, is in the works. However, I am not quitting this one just yet, as I can still benefit from this job via the connections and resume padding.

I should be sending PMs of commissions updates tonight, when I have scanner access. I'm still accepting them, as I'll be needing help in keeping myself afloat until I have a more stable job.

Thank you very much for your help and wishes and prayers if you ever gave me any. I hope I'm not jipping you of your money, as you'll get nice art in return!

Commission list updated. As I said, I do the commissions in the order of what resources I have available at the time and (usually) what is easier and faster to do. Projects started and nearing completion are bolded and pink.

I should be finishing and starting more soon.

Hey sweetpea! Send me the receipt at your next convenience and take your time with the drawing -- but I'll pay you in advance of the awesome.

Hurr hurr. Another car update.

Engine's fixed, but not the car lock. I think my dad took the hint that I wanted to pay the lock myself. And, well, 1999 BMW car parts aren't cheap to come by, especially to repair an engine. (Yet it still makes those funny whirring sounds. Huh.)

You can still PM me commissions, but I can't finish them as soon as you order them. I hope I can get these done soon, though.
