Peon Quest

ONE PEON.
ONE QUEST.
PEON QUEST.

"High Warlord! Dire news!"

Kil'shi Rendtear perked a brow behind his helm, white cloak flourishing as he turned to face this speaker. It was cold out, though insulation in his armor kept him warm. Sadly this was not the case for many of his men, forced to brave the freezing temperatures of Northrend. He had made a point of acquiring heavy blankets for his men and women when he could. But supplies were hard to come by in this frozen tundra.

"Speak."

The individual who had approached the High Warlord was a scout, clad in garb fit for hiding one's self in the snow. She was small, thin, though Rendtear knew this appearance was misleading. The girl was just as fierce as her larger counterparts.

"A Scourge force is headed for Outpost Kor'thash. They've a Death Knight in lead."

"How many?"

"Roughly three scores of shamblers. They've a wagon."

The High Warlord growled lowly at the news, hands gripping the ends of his cloak. Outpost Kor'thash was a supply base, goods being funneled through there to many assorted locations throughout the region. It was undermanned, having little other than a few warriors and a mass of peons.

He strode his way to a table, tactical map stretched out over it. "Three hour's journey between here and there on wolf." His head turned to regard the scout. "It is good you came here quickly. But we must be swift in reaching Kor'thash to provide relief. Gather the raiders! We ride!"

"Oi! Boss!"

"Eh?"

"There's somethin' moving over there."

The overseer perked a brow at his subordinate. He grasped a nearby telescope, peering out into the distance from atop the ramparts. Not a word was spoken, though his eyes widened at the sight. His hands relaxed as they limply dropped to his sides, scope clattering on the masonry.

"Ancestors protect us," muttered Mundo, before turning about to bark orders to the other people of Kor'thash.

War was coming.

"Scourge! Scourge'r coming!"

The big ol' orc ran through Kor'thash, smacking sleeping peons upside the head, alerting warriors. Greenskins climbed up onto the ramparts to get a better glimpse of what the overseer saw. The musk of fear filled the air as many dropped to offer final prayers to their ancestors.

They didn't actually have an 'officer in charge' to lead them. A supply outpost was capable of running itself, and talented leaders were needed elsewhere in Northrend. All they had to do was make sure goods got through safely, and to the right destinations. Not a very rough outpost. Most of the warriors were still green (in more ways than one), training themselves for the day they would actually see battle here. They expected a glorious victory for their first battle. Not the imminent defeat approaching the gates of the outpost.

The outpost itself was small, but well fortified. Metal walls were erected about the territory, high enough where climbing would be a great challenge. There were three gates, large enough for two mammoths to come in side by side. A large warehouse was in the center of the complex, and a smaller barracks nearby.

Dissent began to spread across the orcish ranks. There were thirty of them, only five of which were fully fledged warriors. Some turned to leave and run. They found themselves facing a very determined overseer.

"Get some weapons. We're fightin'."
