I'm not bringing myself about Troll Voodoo, I actually understand that. The issue is people telling me that I don't and that I shouldn't play the character because I've yet to actually rp a troll.

Whereas that does make sense to go with something simple, it only feels as if I've decided to be lazy.

The problem is that you cannot just read up on WoW lore. For this you gotta read up on basic voodoo and their metaphysics, delve into what other people have done in the past, what worked and didn't and so on.

My troll that in the end reached shadow hunter was rolled as a scalper with the bad habit of being harassed by spirits, that became an apprentice to several witch doctors and after almost three months I felt I had what I needed.

BUT MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL is how you relate the shadow hunter and his powers to everyone else. How can you RP your troll without witch doctors, hexxers and priests look worthless? If everyone wears a mask and you should too, what's the visual effect of the rush'kah then?

Problem is CotH isn't abundant in troll RP, rather the opposite. And most trolls have abandoned, don't care or have players that aren't well read up on voodoo. Chances are you'll end up with loose tidbits, follow a bad description of the class from some Wiki and have a ranged warrior that can cast divine spells.

Not to completely contradict everything you just said, but I don't think Haitian Voodoo and troll voodoo are the same, so it wouldn't be wise to draw conclusions from that fact in of itself.

As KageAcuma is clearly making an effort to understand the background of Trolls and Shadow Hunters, I am hoping you plan to continue pursuing this. And feel free to ask for help/RP along the way as you first introduce your character in the world. As there has been a wish for greater Troll RP in the past, I am sure a well-thought Shadow Hunter will be a welcome addition to the server, and I personally hope to get some interaction between him and one of my own characters. I'd be happy to help you work out the kinks of his personality as well as any ability or religious questions you come across. Happy hunting!

That's not to say you shouldn't play what you wan't to play...

I think that you're misunderstanding where I'm coming from. I'm not trying to say by any means that you -shouldn't- RP the character that you wan't to play. I've never said that. I've said that before attempting to play a difficult class, you should have a firm grasp on its lore. As for this...

... where am I going to get the experience. And asides from that, the last thing I want is a character with so many ties to other trolls that he really -can't- be rped unless there on that I'm stuck waiting.

Troll RP has -never- been prevalent on CotH. The only time I can think of it being even close to common would be during the reclamation of the Echo Isles a couple years back. Troll RP'ers make due with what they have. You get experience playing a character by playing it. Not with the character's own race, but by going out into the world. You need to be able to feel comfortable in a character's skin before you can jump right into something thats the equivalent of a Far Seer or (arguably) a Tauren Chieftain of Crone. It's absolutely fine if you don't of course, and I wouldn't even humor the idea of trying to force you into doing something you don't want to do, but as someone who prides himself on his Troll lore and RP, I hope that you think for a moment on an outside and experienced opinion. If you decide not to, and aren't willing to, I'm always open for questions if you have any...

Regardless, it -is- good to see more Troll RP. You just have to understand my wariness, and take it not as an insult, but at face value. When I RP'd my first Troll, I RP'd a Shadow Hunter on another server and I learned pretty much nothing. Dedicated research, memorization of the RPG books, and delving into the warcraft novels are the only reason I'm as comfortable with it as I am.

Oh, you're getting me wrong. I'm not saying you'll fail or that you are bad. I'm saying that -IF- you spend the time and do this properly you'll instead end up disappointed in the community or start bending the character and the will of the lwa beyond realism to get any decent RP.

Why don't you doll a shadow hunter in the making BEFORE you write a profile, see how people and troll on CotH relate to voodoo and then make a profiel? That way you can get a sense on how you should shape the character and how you roleplay a shadow hunter.

Trust me, neither of us are hogging territory, we're giving you tips based on our collected knowledge and experience on the subject.


Note: Yes, troll voodoo and haitian voodoo/louisiana voodoo/santeria/hoodoo/vodun and all other variations are not the same, I'm fully aware of that. But Blizzard are good at making plain rip-offs and frankly the little they have given us about troll religion is not enough to base roleplay on. Their inspiration should fit as ours too then, or is that just foolish thinking of me? (There's always limits, like on retail when a rivaling troll tribe were all devouted to Erzuli goddess of magic that sent message on which woman the chief should "court" next. A lot of ERP there.)

It'd be like having never RPed a human paladin before, and then trying to RP a Silver Hand commander as your first. Or as Belth said, a Tauren Chieftain/Elder Crone or Orc Far-Seer. Sure, you can do it, nothings stopping you, but yeah :V

... Oohhh. No I've rped a troll before. Jenazz on a public server (Which still sucked). I understand troll voodoo and the such, it was just shadow hunters -themselves- I didn't. I think that was the confusion. It's not that I've -never- rped a troll (Which I might of said. If I did, I really don't know why seeing as though I have), I've just never rped one with voodoo. I understand the concerns and such, but it's troll voodoo and how Shadow Hunters work is why I made this post. That and troll speak. I can't type accents anymore for some reason, and I can't remember. Same thing goes with dwarfs, another race I love to rp I just -can't- get the accent right. If I don't have the accent, I don't rp em. Speaking of which, anyone got a cheat guide to both of there accents?
