How do you do enchanting?
#16
If you enchant a breastplate to protect it against piercing attacks, or something. Perhaps an enchantment that causes projectiles to rebound from the plate, or reduce their force of impact. Enchanted to be lighter... etc.

edit: Also, Astus has enchanted a ring to prevent scrying upon him. He instantly knows when he is scried, because the ring charges up on his mana and then has 'bursts' of usage.

I play enchanters very similar to Bovel. I "find" enchanted items on my Forsaken Relic Hunter, Larry, and I actually enchant things on my namesake, Avon.

I have a relic hunting Night Elf that I've yet to play, Avon! I want to play him so badly!

Me thinks soon I'll make an Enchanter, most likely alliance, or depending which side has most enchanters so I can be the opposite faction!

It's kind of interesting to think about scarcity in a magical economy. We as players are required to disenchant magical items to get the tasty craftable loot within, but where does it come from? Powerful mages like Kael'thas might enchant things out of pure force of will, great alchemists might distill enchanting materials from the essences of the universe, but the rest of us are picking up the scraps aren't we? Breaking down the old is how player enchanters make something new.

Now I'm imagining an alchemist sitting in his lab with a production line full of glass phials and distilling equipment just conjuring energy into one end and laboriously purifying it into a jar full of Strange Dust. Or maybe people slaughtering summoned elementals for their elemental essence to supply the Stormwind Army with enchanted officer's blades.

Think maybe if the enchanter/ress is strong enough (as in, played enough without being told he/she sucks and makes flops) overtime can just.. Enchant without needing to use the scraps, like you said Kael'thas? I'll be honest, the idea seems interesting so I'm curious.

I just find it funny that 450 enchanters still need to destroy crappy greens in order to cast new enchantments. I'm sure enchanters can do their own work, but reconciling the mechanics to the roleplay is an interesting thing to think about.

Should ask a GM if it's allowed to just enchant using the Ley Lines. I mean if you've played long enough and been doing enchanting long enough you should be able to, no? By which I mean not enchanting, or a 'second job' but it to be the character's PASSION, their goal is to be an epic enchanter/ress.

Remember, enchantment isn't just the imbuing of items with properties.

Quote:Enchantment is the process of imbuing an object - or person - with magical power. Some enchantments are temporary, while others can offer permanent benefits...

Disenchanting is the process of dispelling or removing magic. The dispel magic spell is among the most important in a mage's arsenal, as it can potentially reverse the catastrophic effects of a misfired spell. It is also possible to permanently disenchant a magical item. This produces a unique form of crystallized mana that can be used in the process of imbuing another item with magical abilities. (The Schools of Arcane Magic - Enchantment)

And then you've got martial enchanters...

Corchel's a leatherworker/enchanter IC.

She makes armor for people, and enchants in with various small stuff using reagents that have to be gathered ICly. She'll do something like make some armor she's made lighter (essentially +agility) or more protective (+armor) or more resistant to shadow or the like.

Her enchants don't affect the wearer, but the item itself. Her enchants can't add STR, INT, etc, something that would be entirely out of her element. She deals with armor.

If she were to disenchant an item (instead of wearing it until it breaks then making another one) she'd probably do it using the natural magic of a moonwell to turn it in to dust for more minor enchants.
