Fun with tabards.

OK, one thing I've noted, quite to my dismay, is that the character texture resolution affects whether one's mods will show up on the character geosets!
For the sake of allowing more freedom in texture size, if you haven't already Scout, (And anyone else playing with uMod) set the character texture detail to high.

And did you get your framerate issues fixed?

Oh, and for everybody, here's an informative thread about how much Blizzard is a derp.

And I believe I was mistaken about modding the face effects; further messing around has shown that we should be able to modify our characters' textures head to toe! That means custom faces!

I didn't get the issues fixed. I think it's just my computer. I'd gladly sacrifice a high frame rate for this level of customization, though.

All my settings are on high, I believe. I can't stand low resolution textures, so I bump the texture resolutions to max whenever I can.

I figured that I'd try using one race's texture on another, so I took a draenei male skin and put it on a night elf. (with a few adjustments for the ears, skin tone, etc.)

Also, I tried customizing Flora's look, to make her face a bit more unique:

Note the change in bone color! They could be customized as you like!

And this is exactly what I'm hoping to do with uMod. Everyone's character can be a bit more individual.

Dem Flora eyes.

I might look into using this now, maybe.

This is probably one of the most useful things I have seen in a long time, however the problem here is that if not everyone is using it or simply having different files... won't it lead to some issues like people no longer having the same thing on the screen and needing to be explained things? At least if this becomes the standard at some point it should be given a part on the introduction site along with the patch. And as Dae mentioned a fit standard that is regulated.

Edit: Total support Thumbs up

Ideally, people would request for mods made for their characters, giving them incentive to use the program, leading it to having fairly common use, but it seems I've been much too subtle.
Seriously, guys! Tattoos, runes, facial features, scars, some variety to the seemingly inescapable smug expression on the Blood Elves' facial textures!

Though I should probably go edit the OP to better reflect this...

Sorry for the double post, but how would yall feel about tauren mane colors matching their general fur color? Also, my attempts so far of de-glowifying weapons and armor seem successful so far!

Funny you should say that, Dae.

I was attempting to give the white tauren fur a white mane to accompany it, but when I zoomed out...

The texture began to fade back to brown. I'm not sure why that would happen.

(Edit: I am a noob when it comes to using photo-editing software, by the way. The texture you see wouldn't be the final version, as I want to improve the contrast a bit.)

LOD for hair I think, WoW is mod-friendly to some extend. Other parts are simply hard-coded.

I'm going to have to download this and play with it...
Though in curious if the changes could be tagged to one specific character in game, or do the changes override the previous texture and end up on anyone who uses it? Like say for instance, you wanted to change the hair color of a texture for one character (say, a Night Elf purple made lighter on one model), would that change happen to anyone who selected that model and origin texture? If I could set custom textures to only one character.....

Hrm... Is your character level of detail setting in the options set to max?

Unfortunately, for hair, pauldrons, held items, Tauren tails, eye glows, helmets and capes, uMod can only be told to replace a texture whereever it is displayed, to my knowledge. However, because of uMod being so finicky with the textures for the player model specifically, one can change the texture of the avatar without affecting anyone else, unless they have the exact same hair, face, features, skin and equipment. (othjer than the ones I listed previously)
So... Sort of?

Ooooh, I see. Nifty. I'll definitely have to play with this. Does it allow the models to be edited as well, or is that a little too much?

Nope. Which is part of why I keep saying the more appropriate name "TexMod" instead of the project's new and more ambiguous name, "uMod." The reason I've brought this tool up for the CotH community's consideration is because it is so quick incredibly user friendly; even people without technical or artistic know-how can potentially contribute.

There are tools that edit models, but WoW mods are generally more of a pain to impliment than your average RPG. Making new armor, weapons and static items aren't necessarily too much more difficult than modding other games, and swapping models isn't that much trouble either, but I've researched the tools for making new character models is its own kind of bother. However, it is possible, and this website is one of the best resources I know of for WoW modding in general: Modcraft. I linked more specifically to the custom model showoff page there because its cool. :3

But what did you have on your mind? I might be able to point you in some kind of direction.

If it were possible, I had always had ideas for editing the models for most of my characters and mod models for others. One thing I k ow I've wanted to try was to add various body types... Bah. The mod idea I'd love to do woud completely overhaul the character creation process and would be a pain in the butt to do, but a Sims style character creation setup would be pretty pro for us RPers.

But for me, I'd be happy refining models for the different body shapes of my different characters.
