The Heart of Evil

Not saying the entire thing wasn't good, or even the ending was outright bad... On a self-important note, I think the event did have a strong emotional impact on Telathis, but a lot of it went unstated.

I probably enjoy being a level breaker far too much, though. On the other hand, the event could have done with at least some comic relief. I didn't want to put myself in the limelight too much, though, and if Telathis encounters any of the characters again, he'd probably bring up the incident.

I'm struggling with how much I should show, and how much I should tell, and feel that I'm not really doing either at times.

The tone of the storyline and the nature of the event I feel were inappropriate for comic relief, personally. However, my more light hearted events and RPs do! At any rate, my main problem with Telathis wasn't the comedy, but rather how unfocused he seemed on the events transpiring around. Shades and visions were showing up all over Shadowmoon, and he reacted by... looking for something to kill. But once they got inside the temple, he evened out some. I liked his bitterness against the orcs and welcomed him as a very much Old-School Alliance guy!

I think it needed a bit of comic relief at one or two points during the journey (or one during the journey, and one at the end), for the reasons comic relief is even a thing. It keeps a dark event from 'dragging on' and inducing apathy into the audience/participants. Of course, I didn't know anything about the event beyond "An adventure into Outland, and storming Shadowmoon Keep. Beware of demons, internal and external" when I signed up.

I think I should have taken a bit more initiative with him to provide a contrast to... what was his name? The other human paladin that was horrified by everything.

And it was late, leading me to miss a lot of details. Also, my OOC expectations was that it would be a trek through the demon-filled Shadowmoon Valley, and think it might have been better if there had been at least a few encounters with demonic ambushes to put our warriors' and paladins' weapons to use, with the dramatic hallucinations underlying that (Kinda like the Sargeras Tomb mission from The Frozen Throne)... As the event related to me, it would have built up the "Exorcism of Steel" speech I nearly gave Telathis in response to the whispering of prayers, making the refutal of the strength of steel alone at the end a lot more powerful - the exchange over tearing down the fortress was a point I see as a somewhat missed opportunity.

I hope to get into the swing of this server soon!

Hmm. I considered having more combat involved, but I know that RP fights can be dragging and uninteresting in their own right as well. I'm trying to work at making events engaging without having to rely on combat, though, but I do see what you mean. The walk from Shadowmoon to BT was so long, we could have afforded an encounter or two. I considered having an infernal drop down, buuut went against it. Ah well! Your Tomb of Sargeras is a good reference, how could I have forgotten that...

Next time I'll make my OOC expectations more clear as well. It seems this event appealed more to those involved previously than newcomers, and I always try to be open for newcomers.

Speaking of the path to the temple, here's a shoutout to Krilari for the ghosts popping in and out.
