Void of a Legend

Void of a Legend
sometimes i wonder what’s going through that pretty head of yours
your pretty eyes and charming smile, you look at me and i
i wanna make you wanna try to be the best yet

He sat on the bench, biting his tongue. The tears burned at his eyes, but he refused to acquiesce and let their shameful streams stain his cheeks. He swallowed, spitting a comment about the arrogance of the death knight as he boasted of how he'd beaten death once, and would never die. Scum.

Hadley hated the undead. He hated the death knights, too. There was nothing he could do, if he did battle one. The only way he knew to beat a death knight was to turn its runeblade against it. And that was near impossible.

And so when the Death Knight challenged him, he knew he had to accept. If he didn't, than what sort of man would he be? He entered the ring, and turned to face his foe. He held out his arms, waiting for the inevitable. It was a warrior of death itself. Although, even death may die, Hadley didn't have the means to combat such a indefatigable beast. There was a spark of cruor, and Hadley's jaw inadvertently clamped tight, the blood of the human beginning to boil inside his veins. He wanted to shriek, but he would not give the creature the satisfaction.

Vampires of pain.
Parasites.
A stain on this thrice-damned planet.

And yet, Hadley didn't know what he could do. He tossed his throwing stars at the knight, but even if he'd managed to hit the creature, what could he have done? He was trained to kill the living, not seemingly invincible, god's-blood wearing monstrosities.

He idly wondered, as he flipped away from the elf's blast of unholy energy, if the knights realized their fate as hated, disgusting, inhuman suits of purposeless armor. When he landed, an orc shouted to him, "Your knifes don't seem to do any good, human!"

Hadley looked up, winking to the orc. He already knew the knives wouldn't do anything. How do you defeat that which does not tire in a battle when all of its joints are covered by the strangest and most impenetrable armor in all of Azeroth? You don't.

It was no surprise when Hadley found himself suddenly hurled to the ground, a deep hole through his stomach from a glittering spear of bloodied ice. He wouldn't stand up, surely. He couldn't stand up. The Death Knight stood above him, making some threat that was drowned out by the ringing of Hadley's ears. He knew it was a death threat.

"Fuckin'... try it..." Hadley coughed, his vision blurring as he placed a hand on his wounds in a futile effort to stop the bleeding. He hadn't even touched the knight throughout the entire combat. He closed his eyes, exhaling. His tricks weren't good enough.

He wasn't good enough. Sure, he could slaughter the unsuspecting like nobody's business, but this? This was out of his league. What was left? He had conned one place he'd had purpose, and now he was alone. He felt the ruby amulet warm on his chest. He had their prize, but what was it worth? He shook his head as he coughed. Nothing. It was worth nothing. He was just like the death knight, he thought. What purpose did he have?
