Patchaclysm Updates

Though I know it would be just asking for trouble, I would still love it if we could have a second realm open for everyone to build in and use as a place to propose ideas for main server RP ideas.
What I find more disheartening, though is the comment that the patch won't be available come Cata. Does this mean bye bye to all the cool, custom locations we have so far?

What do you mean? The patch is the same one that many folks already have; it's simply being used in places other than the designated locations on the portal. Or did I miscomprehend? Hehe.

I believe she means that the custom zones (Ratchet-on-the-Rocks, Solace, etc) won't be available in Cataclysm. Which is true, I don't think there are any plans to remake this centers at present.

(The custom patch doesn't work in Cata, yees?)

Ohhhh, yes, sorry!
I'm afraid that is absolutely correct - no custom patch currently for Cata, though I'm looking into whether I can make one that includes wmo's only (since I'll be trying to hand-craft it instead of including every non-existing GOb).

How does making this patch work, exactly? Is there any busywork in the process that could be outsourced to CotH users with a bit of DBC understanding?

It's only a theory, but I've been testing by using a MPQ viewer, getting the full path from the wmo files (such as World\wmo\Azeroth\Buildings\Big_Keep\Big_Keep.wmo), edit the GameObjectDisplayInfo.dbc file so that it includes that object along with an arbitrarily assigned displayID, then insert an entry in the gameobject_template table using that displayID. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten it to work yet, but I'm unsure if I need to assign a random size or if I can just use 0's for all the values (there are existing wmo's with both 0 values as well as what appears to be sizes - possibly involving LOS calculation).

I'm not a DBC pro, but I follow the process and am familiar enough with the tools one would use to do what you're saying. LoS is Line of Sight, right? Don't know much about that part. :P

I'm not entirely sure if my Cata install is vanilla with some of my past tinkering with MPQs and what not, but if you gave me a listfile and walk me through what you're doing, I could probably help out a bit. Everything's the same with Cata as with WotlK when it comes to DBC, right? And do you use Tallis or another DBC tool?

I've been using DBCUtil and MPQEditor for DBC and MPQ manipulation, respectively. As I mentioned, though, all of my workings have just been theory as I'm unsure if it's the proper method or if the 4.3.4 client is simply resistant to such change. I'll have to open up the 4.0.6 GOb patch and see if I might be able to pull just the extra objects and insert them into a normal GameObjectDisplayInfo.dbc 4.3.4 file and see if that works.

You should come onto TS at some point or add me on Skype!

More was done with Westfall and the Gurubashi Arena, to note!

Forgot to update in here.

As well: Regarding the patch for cata, we've found a way to make it work on the new core.

HOWEVER. The applications of it may be little to nonexistent. We've essentially come right back to our initial problem with cata and the patch: In order for the patch to work, the WoW exe (I think that's the right word) has to be edited to allow the patch to effect the game.

Now, here's the issue: The patcher we found doesn't have a Mac equivalent. And I'm hesitant to use something that dis-includes a portion of the server.

Soooo there's the present matter at hand there.

Hello hello!

Haven't updated this in a while. Rather than being a complete spazz with this I've decided that I'm going to actually focus on one zone at a time while running with this little campaign of decorating.

I've decided to hit a neutral zone first, and one that tends to hit a garner a lot of traffic; Stranglethorn Vale. This will include both relatively minor additions in scenery as well as the addition of a few structures here and there, though primarily its going to be the furnishing of the current buildings I've spawned.

I plan to move to Elwynn and then Durotar next, so suggest something if you'd like to see that zone hit soon.

Here's what I've worked on so far:

Stranglethorn Vale
-Additional troll ruins added, primarily around the naga-held Nek'mani Wellspring and the roads just outside the Gurubashi Arena. The roads should be slightly safer for pedestrian travel. I will work on the gorilla problem shortly [EGADS] by relocating some apes.

-Some small additional trollhuts were placed.

-Added ripples to most notable waterfalls.

-Added an effect and a few tents to Booty Bay.

-Added assorted scenery here and there.

-Added a jail near the arena.

I have a question, if you don't mind, what will be done with the Tauren Shaman bug?
Reply

That applies to Cataclysm, not Patchaclysm. I do not believe tauren shaman are bugged on the current server. [This is talking about WOTLK.]

Well it seems tauren shamans -were- bugged, but it seems I pestered the right people and he is now fixed! (Talking about cataclysm server)

What Reigen is saying, this threat isn't about Cata. It's about the custom patch that's in place right now that mimics Cata.

It doesn't mimic cata, but it does allow some cata stuff to be made appearance-wise.
