Player Blogs

Hrm.

I thought at one point we -did- have some kinda blog thingy that players had access to, by way of a secondary site off of CotH or... something. I can't recall, but maybe Kret knows what I mean o 3o

Blogs ain't necessary!

Neither are likes.

Edit: Or forum money. Or Profile comments. Or links to our external websites.

:B

Lot's of stuff that are fun aren't neccisary.

As a member of the fun-police, I am totally, totally all for getting rid of all these things, and am totally, totally not joking.

(I wouldn't mind getting rid of everything but likes, truth be told. Likes are an easy way to say 'I agree'.)

I know you are somewhat joking and also slightly serious, heh. But, considering this is a community, I don't see how a subforum under off-topic for blogs could hurt. Not everything here has to be wow-related, I'm sure...

And sometimes it's nice to just talk about things that are on your mind. CoTH is a very comfortable place to do that for a lot of us, which why I'm sure people would like us to have a "blog" topic area.

Well I thought we practicly did that already if we put the post in off-topic :/ But I just use mine to rant and talk about nerdery anyway :P Speaking of, anyone a warhammer 40k ork fan? (JK don't answer that in this thread, but fill free to pm me *winky face*)

I know I am way late, but my memory is awful! Thank you for reminding me to post this, @Psychyn!

I'd like to note that I'm using the term 'blog' in a broad sense here - that is, I'm not just talking about rant-blogs. Scrapbook might be a better word, actually! I mean sure, there will be people who choose to use their threads as traditional blogs, and that's perfectly fine, but that's still just one aspect of this (sub)forum I'm suggesting. It may or may not turn out to be a slightly problematic aspect, but that's no reason not to give this a try, in my opinion!

(07-19-2013, 12:13 PM)Psychyn Wrote: So, while I do think blogs can be an alright addition to the forums, I do believe some moderation is required so the blogs posted are indeed people expressing their thoughts and ideas out in a constructive manner, instead of rants/referrals to previous events/you'll never believe what just happened /rage' posts.

All of our forums are moderated, and I don't see why this one should be an exception. Having your own personal thread does not make it alright to do whatever you want in it. Tongue

(07-19-2013, 12:13 PM)Psychyn Wrote: That's just my opinion, if the blogs are regulated/read for any possible sassy remarks before they become publicly visible (or some other form of moderation is implemented), then I'm all good with it. Possibly a new forum "Player Blogs" where folks can put up a thread with their name in it, and then just post in that. (Though that may get messy when others start commenting. Should be easy to do with forum tools as well, just require posts/threads GM/FH approval before being put up.)

I think what you're suggesting here is taking things to extremes. Rant threads pop up in General Discussion and Off-Topic all the time (or, well, they used to - I haven't seen one in a while but that might just be me ;)), but our posts there are not pre-checked like that and angry!!!!!! >:C threads still get dealt with. I don't know about anyone else, but to me it feels like unnecessary censorship. And what is even more worrying, in my opinion, is that it comes from the assumption that, given the chance, the playerbase will automatically start breaking rules and spewing bile. I, personally, find that assumption too pessimistic. I think it's always better to give the trust route a chance before trying to restrict things too much. ;)

We did, back on the old website! Unless you mean on this site - in which case, I have no idea what you're talking about! :B

Off-Topic is just a jumble of all sorts of different things. It would be nice to have a more organised place for these personal scrapbook threads, probably as a subforum or something (like the Exhibition or the University) - and, I imagine, that would help tidy up and reduce spam in the main forum a bit.

5000 gold required to buy a blog.

Cannot be seen on Recent Posts.

Only accessible from a sub-forum.

Done!

I'd actually be alright with putting a gold requirement on it, at least makes the feature somewhat useful. Five thousand is perhaps a bit much, between a thousand and two thousand seems good enough. I mean, I constantly have heaps of cash without being insanely active on the forum. Add a possibly lucky lottery to that and you got more then you'll ever need. This seems nice. Too high and it will promote spam, too low and it will make people question why we even got it in there.

As for;

Quote:I, personally, find that assumption too pessimistic.

Well, we just differ on that then (which is fine, by the way.). Rather be safe then sorry in this case, or as I think I wrote in my post, I may just be over thinking it. Who knows.

5,000?

I will buy all the blogs.

That would imply that each player would get a whole subforum to themselves, if they had to buy a blog. Subforums are a bit of a pain to make already, as shown by the thoughts of Guild Subforums in Grakor's blog post. I would rather there just be one subforum where each player has one thread to post their things, rather than many threads.

Edit: As in, one thread per player. Not, all players post in one thread.

CotH's super omega hyper-large supreme ultra people's blog?
A blog fueled by the blood sweat and tears of us all, normal players?
Where all threads stand equal and united?
In their cause to bring conversations on subject matter?

Wait don't we already have tons of forum around? Such as General Discussion?

If I recall correctly don't say GMs already have their own blogs? (and sometimes, kinda, former GMs. I noticed. And some neglect those blogs). Overall though, I don't see the necessity, perhaps forum helpers should be the extent of our blog-granting.
Hand me some feedback!

This really doesn't seem necessary. I can just imagine some of the pointless controversial rants in blogs overwhelming and drama-inducing.

Unless GMs zealously monitor blogs, I don't see anything positive coming out of this.
