Is Sylvanas being affected by the Old Gods?

I would be pretty angry if they used this excuse on another character. I realize that apparently Garrosh going mad was his own stuff and the gods didn't affect him, but -still-. I find 'S/HE GOT TOUCHED IN DA BRAIN' to be a lazy way to write off a character.

Imean. Yes, they've possibly written themselves into a corner with making Sylvanas evildarkmwahaha, but I really hope they at least own up to that instead of saying there was a tentaclemonster in her brain the entire time.

...Considering what happened with Garrosh? Why the heck not, Blizzard.

To be fair, Garrosh isn't corrupted by anything. I can't recall where, but one of the devs confirmed that even in his "corrupted" form in the fight, Garrosh is in full control, he's just using the Sha as a weapon. So all of that evil and crazy? All him.

So, that in mind, I don't see why Sylvanas would be corrupted by anything. She seems just pretty straight-up evil to me. There were hints of them trying give her more depths than that in BC, but they seemed to have forgotten that already, just like the forgot the development they were trying to give Garrosh in Cata by the time MoP rolled around.

Off-topic a bit, but they at least tried giving him some.

"YOU ARE DISMISSED!" was a meme, sure, but it was also one of the best scenes they did with Garrosh. His execution of Krom'gar and the speech that he gave that hinted that he secretly respected Saurfang and the advice given to him by him...that was all good stuff. They had the opportunity to work a good redemption, "young warchief that's angry and in over his head, but learns as he goes" arc with him. They just abandoned it for some reason.

Sylvanas is much the same way, really. Her lamenting the fate of her people, both the elves and the Forsaken, and trying to carve out a place for them to live in a world that hates them for merely existing...that's also all good stuff. It's just a shame they've been turning her into the next Lich King instead.
