As a favor to my friend, a question about Tyrande
#31
Aaah, at last.

Tyrande. Now, see, in WC3, Tyrande was an all right character. Keep in mind what the Kaldorei were at the time, true to their Lore, they were the last guardians of the world 'longside the Dragonflights, a duty that has scantly been brought up since.

All she did was for the world's continued survival, in WC3, every arrow fired meant to extend existence a few moments longer. When you hang in the balance her deeds, at the very least as regards Eternity's End and the very start of the Night Elf Campaign(Not counting the idiocy about freeing Illidan), and the very survival of Azeroth against another full-blown incursion of the Burning Legion as it was in the War of the Ancients, you see that many, if not all of her actions are justified.

Then started the process of sissification. She went from "Only the Goddess can forbid -me- anything, Malfurion!" to being a pushover. Despite being the official leader of the Kaldorei people, even with Malfurion around, she played pretty much the puppet or figurehead role. She was relegated to 'waifu' tier. And not even the good, combat-waifu level.

Now, the bit with Maiev. While yes, it is the power of the High Priestess of Elune to overrule a Warden's judgment, and only the High Priestess of Elune can do so, there's a bit more backstory that makes the whole situation far more idiotic.

Maiev ended up in her position -because- of Tyrande. And Tyrande ended up High Priestess of Elune because of Maiev. My, my, it's almost as if it were intentional.

The character of Tyrande went on to eff Night Elf lore where the sun doesn't shine, in the novel Stormrage for instance, being the first Night Elf in history to marry. As in, actually have a marriage, breaking the tradition of choosing a mate for eternity. Despite the fact that she and Malfurion were mates already. Derp the levels of 'Learning patience from a human'.

About the Illidan vs Malfurion x Tyrande, I should mention... Tyrande was OUTRIGHT TOLD to take -both brothers- as mates, and that it would be fine, prior to the War of the Ancients when she was first dealing with the trouble of having to pick between the two.

So, yeah. Tyrande sucks as a representative of the Night Elves, particularly of Night Elven females. She lacks all the Amazon-esque traits that her people exhibit.

Give me Maiev, or give me death. I will not stand for that pansy of a racial leader, lacking in strength and determination alike, and letting herself be pushed around like arm-candy.

...She's still better-written than a lot of others, though, which makes the situation even more sad.

Wow, really? Both of them? Polyandry?

...Heck yeah, night elves.

Yes, indeed. It's a thing.

As someone else put it:

This could've been out of her own eccentricity, or that Night Elves are indeed polyandrous in some instances - which still doesn't reflect slutting around as an ideal; it may have been a different setup during the caste system years. They may value some shape or form of monogamy in the non-caste years.

Who knows; even the creators don't know wtf.

I'd also like to stress the militaristic drive of female NE. One thing I really get edgy about are prissy female NE. I can't even see Kal'Dorei priestesses being remotely as limp wristed as some portray them. The society still has that matriarchal edge to it, and for a NE to get out there and act as innocent and naive as a human (unless she's trying to get something / trick someone, much to the sacrifice of her pride and acting crafty) is pretty silly.

I don't like to typecast roles, and people, no matter their race, have many facets, but yeah. This ain't the tiptoe through the tulips race.

I very much dislike the thought of rubbing balls with one's brother.

What the derp, Elves?

Jokes aside; Pretty cool info, actually! I hadn't thought of it like that before now.

I'm still kinda disappointed that they didn't go with the Polygamy version of the Elves, whereas it was a much more tribal, pack-mentality kind of thing.

It would be nice if all the races in wow were more culturally different, but for the most part it seems the races are mostly humans with twist.
