House Ashbridge
#1
The Grand Family of
House Ashbridge

Spoiler:
There was a Human man who had two sons, identical twins, though
he had no daughter, however much he wished for one. At length his
wife again gave him hope of a child, and when it came into
the world it was a girl. The joy was great, but the child was
sickly and small, and had to be nourished from a special well
on their land. The father sent one of the boys in haste to the
spring to fetch water for their sister. The other went with
his dear brother, and as each of them wanted to be first to fill it, the jug
fell into the well. There they stood and did not know what to do,
and none of them dared to go home. As they still did not return,
the father grew impatient, and said, they have certainly forgotten
it while playing some game, the wicked boys. He became afraid that
the girl would die without her drought of magic water, and in his
anger cried, I wish the boys were all turned into ravens. Hardly
was the word spoken before he heard a whirring of wings over his
head, looked up and saw a two-headed, coal-black raven flying away.

The parents could not withdraw the curse, and however sad they
were at the loss of their two sons, they still to some extent
comforted themselves with their dear little daughter, who soon
grew strong and every day became more beautiful. For a long time
she did not know that she had had brothers, for her parents were
careful not to mention them before her, but one day she
accidentally heard some people saying of themselves that the girl was
certainly beautiful, but that in reality she was to blame for the
misfortune which had befallen her brothers. Then she was much
troubled, and went to her father and mother and asked if it was
true that she had had brothers, and what had become of them. The
parents now dared keep the secret no longer, but said that what
had befallen her brothers was a terrible curse, and that her
birth had only been the innocent cause. But the maiden took it to
heart daily, and thought that she must save her brothers. She had no
rest or peace until she set out secretly, and went forth into the
wide world to search for her brothers and set them free, let it
cost what it might. She took nothing with her but a little ring
belonging to her parents as a keepsake, a loaf of bread against
hunger, a little pitcher of water against thirst, and a little
chair as a provision against weariness.

And now she went continually onwards, far, far to the very end of
the world. Then she came to the sun, but it was too hot and
terrible, and devoured little children. Hastily she ran away, and
ran to the moon, but it was far too cold, and also awful and
malicious, and when it saw the child, it said, I smell, I smell
the flesh of men. At this she ran swiftly away, and came to the
stars, which were kind and good to her, and each of them sat on its
own particular little chair. But the morning star arose, and gave
her the drumstick of a chicken, and said, if you have not that
drumstick you can not open the mountain of shadow, and in the
mountain are your brothers.

The maiden took the drumstick, wrapped it carefully in a cloth,
and went onwards again until she came to the shadowy mountain.
The door was shut, and she thought she would take out the drumstick.
But when she undid the cloth, it was empty, and she had lost the
good star's present. What was she now to do. She wished to rescue
her brothers, and had no key to the dark peak. The good
sister took a knife, cut off her ring finger of her left hand, put it in
the door, and succeeded in opening it. When she had gone inside, a
dwarf came to meet her, who said, my child, what are you
looking for. I am looking for my brothers, the two-headed raven,
she replied. The dwarf said, the lord ravens are not at home, but if
you will wait here until they come, step in. Thereupon the little
dwarf carried the ravens' dinner in, on a single golden plate, and
in a single golden glass, and the little sister ate a morsel from
the plate, and from the little glass she took a sip, but in the goblet
she dropped the ring which she had brought away with her.

Suddenly she heard a whirring of wings and a rushing through
the air, and then the little dwarf said, now the lord raven is
flying home. Then it came, and wanted to eat and drink, and
looked for their little plates and glasses. Then said one after
the other, who has eaten something from my plate. Who has drunk
out of my little glass. It was a human mouth. And when the
two-headed raven came to the bottom of the glass, the ring rolled
against his mouth. Then he looked at it, and saw that it was a ring
belonging to his father and mother, and said, Light grant that our
sister may be here, and then we shall be free. When the maiden,
who was standing behind the door watching, heard that wish,
she came forth, and on this all the ravens were restored to their
human form again.

And they embraced and kissed each other,
and went joyfully home. And their family
flourished from then on, and rose bearing
the crest of the two-headed raven in
memory of the brave little girl and her
cursed brothers.

And the Story of House Ashbridge was Completed

Family History

A once well-respected Alteracian family, House Ashbridge has since fallen into decline in the past few years. The nobles first gained their title through rigorous military service to humanity, but as they rose to prominence their noble ideals and ethics declined. By the time of the Third War the family's spindling tree had declined to a single branch. The family's military service was non-existent, their obsessions and hedonistic pleasures now funded by old wealth and spotty investments.

The death-knell for the House came with its last surviving heir. Their adopted daughter squandered their wealth and last vestiges of title, losing their home with spotty investments and drink.

House Ashbridge is now a house at the very bottom of the rung. It has no title, no rank, little money and a broken name. Yet the last surviving heir has finished her binges and, sober and clean, has taken the task of re-building the fallen House.

With any means and any races she deems necessary.

The Guild

House Ashbridge is a Noble House Guild without the trappings of nobility. It is a guild focused around reconstruction, with the over-arching goal of transforming a ruined, poverty-stricken House back into a political powerhouse.

Because of the process that is noble politics, the guild is designed to be a less-than savory role-playing experience. It is not purely evil, nor is it purely good. It is true neutral. It is more of a well-intentioned extremism. Anything and everything will be done to reach the family's goal.

The desperate nature of the family means that it is very open. Though it is an Alliance-based noble house, it accepts all races and factions: Horde. Alliance. Neutral. Anyone that will serve the main goal of the family will be accepted.

The main goal, that of a house's repair, isn't the only element of the guild. House Ashbridge's public goal is rehabilitation, but in private they have to deal with the ghosts of the family's patch-work history. Years of dark worship, necromancy and other life-prolonging acts have tainted the family's history to the point where, even now, the survivors are haunted by abnormal and paranormal acts. As such, private guild events will also have horror elements and paranormal occurrences.

House Ashbridge's goal is recovery. Both to cleanse their putrid past and rebuild the tattered public perceptions. And this recovery stretches to the members as well: The group recruits from the discarded and broken social-rungs, looking for the abandoned people and giving them an opportunity to elevate themselves. Often with tooth and nail.

How To Join

Membership is open to all races, regardless of faction. The only requirement for a character is that they are able to exist and role-play openly in a neutral settlement. The only races that will require closer scrutiny are the 'neutral' Custom Model Character races that would be unable to be active in these neutral settlements.

All character personalities and archetypes are allowed and encouraged to participate. However, characters that range from Chaotic Good down to Chaotic Evil are preferred. The guild is True Neutral, so characters that fit that spectrum are the best for the guild.

Players are encouraged to make characters that have no previous history with the guild. The guild is intended to serve as an elevating experience, both for the House and the disenfranchised, self-serving social climbers. If you wish to make a servant or member of the House, please note as such when you contact me and we can discuss the idea further.

If you are interested in joining House Ashbridge, please contact Rosencrat out-of-character or Valira in-character. You can reach Rosencrat via Skype (Rosencrat). In that message, include ideas you may have for the intended character.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to include them in a post below or to send them to me in private.

Roooooooooose....

I think I've got a sharpshooter that's good for this...
Perhaps it is your imperfection that which grants you free will, that allows you to persevere against cosmically calculated odds. You prevailed where the Titans' own perfect creations have failed.

Do you think there would be room for a bookish and sarcastic hedge mage? A mercenary, perhaps, or at least a magic user for hire.

I have been thinking of making a mage, and this could be a fine excuse! The question is... Human or Belf?

Well, since you asked nicely...

Day 3, and the last update, has been posted. All the information is there.

The question is: Do you want to elevate yourself along with the House?

Oh, make a Blood Elf. Their population is -positively- dieing around here.

Also, mercenaries are preferred. Though make them a spell-for-hire with a bit of depth, of course.

Then send me a message and let me know! The tension is almost palpable.

After an awesome RP with Valira the other day, and this awesome read, I think I wanna join up on my namesake. He'll kick ass and take names. Just that if she asks him to pronounce those names, it might get tricky...
