Katana's Introduction
#16
There are examples of "splintered" factions in the game though aren't there? AKA. Argent Dawn and a few others where Horde and Alliance races are neither Horde nor Alliance, I would have to agree the Romeo and Juliet thing has been done to death but just out of curiosity what would the stance be on inter-faction stories if the characters in question had their ties to factions unrelated to the Horde/Alliance war?

Everyone is related to the war, and every race is prejudiced towards others. Neutral organizations do make it easier, but there are still rivalries between members of the Cartel, and the Argent Dawn/Crusade is a majority-Alliance organization (Majority-Paladin, that is. Since Blood Knights are not liked by the Church/Dawn so Paladins are mostly Humans and Dwarves.).

If you're part of the Cartel, you can still be biased. You probably have a WAY different mindset towards the Horde and Alliance (They're both a tool for making money, not for making friends.) but some racial tensions still apply. An example of this is that a Gnome working for the Cartel might try to outdo or sabotage his Goblin co-workers if it meant getting ahead on a contract or vice versa (Since Gnomes and Goblins have a long history of conflicting ideas and competing technology.).

This isn't to say that there aren't exceptions, but everyone and their mother plays an exception. People need to start losing these cliche goody-love characters and at least get the chance to change through RP instead of forcing it because you think the other faction is prettier/cooler/BFxGF/etc.

This has been said before, and since I can't pull it up, I'll simply repeat it. The Alliance and the Horde are at war. The "hatred" between the two is so extreme that if there was a romance, let alone even just a friendship, the two characters most likely would be murdered by their people. Reason being, the sharing of secrets during a wartime period is something places take -very- seriously.

Sure, you could use the excuse "Oh, we won't get caught", but simple fact of the matter is that... most likely, you will.

Ontop of that, two characters meeting under these predicaments, and automatically falling in love is very far fetched. With the tensions going on, as well as the old feelings from previous wars, the relationship would most likely be abusive to a degree, our outright unhealthy.

In my opinion, if you look at this sensibly, there should be no reason that Horde should intermingle with Alliance in a romantic way.

Edit: Remember Romeo and Juliet? They died. Keep that in mind.

You must remember that Romeo and Juliet's family were arriving to kill the opposite child, or atleast have them arrested and executed. I'm unsure of which races would do the same for fraternizing in this way, but they sure as hell on tristram wouldn't be happy for one. Your peers would consider you heretics and traitors, and the players behind them would more than likely consider you to be ostracizing your character so far out of line the only term to describe it is 'silly.' Sure, they can -work- together, but does that mean they always get along? Not at all. Most factions that are middle grounded tend to have their opposing races at each others throats.

If you're going to have a romance, can't you keep it in the same faction? It's not hard to do.
