Changes to Heroes and Grunts

............... Some people, no matter how much time they spend here, do not improve. And even if they don't, some grunts feel obliged to vouch the player because they've RPed extensively with them and feel that they owe the player, ................
Slightly offtopic but.....
I disagree ,as long as someone has tried their best at role playing for a considerable period of time, they should be made a Grunt ,everyone will have different opinions and standards of "good role play".

Assigning the ability to vouch for Peons only to a select number of Grunts could also help, in my opinion.

I don't exactly agree that people should be reviewed for gruntship with a questionaire. I mean that would just be another test of their writing ability, which is already shown in their introduction. I think the best way to see if someone is ready to be a grunt is through a real-time interview in-game or in some sort of messaging program. And yes, I know that it would be hard to coordinate a set date between a GM and a player, but I'm sure there would be plenty of time to do so over the two months they had been at the server, and I'm sure waiting a week for a meeting wouldn't be that big of a deal for the type of people we actually -want- as grunts.

Edit: Plus, GMs could just say that they are doing a certain amount of grunt interviews on a set date and the would-be grunts could sign up and show up on their own.

Diethe Wrote:Question though...as for Gruntship being made a time period, 1 or two months....what if that certain player decides to wait out his 'proving' month and be inactive and just go active when he/she becomes grunt? As I am sure the definition of being a grunt is being reviewed, I throw this question anyway, since I and others probably need a cool update.

I think the idea is that you'll have to have been obviously active for that month or two. It may be a little hard to check in some cases, but like I said, we're ironing out the details still. I DO think that things like forum activity will count as far as being active.

Also, for everyone commenting on the questionnaire, as I said it's still being discussed. I don't know what will be in there, or what will happen if someone fails...or, in fact, if it IS possible to fail, or if it will even definitely be there. My initial understanding (not being the one coming up with the idea) was that it was essentially going to be a feedback form, but don't quote me on that. We won't know anything certain about this until Kretol gets back from vacation and we can sit down to sort it, which means Tuesday at the earliest.

I think that the system/questionnaire will be fine and should be done. I also think grunts should still give their vouches for players. It can help show that a player is indeed active, show that a player is rping well (or tell that player what they need to work on), and I suppose vouches overall can encourage a player or give them a sense of accomplishment.

Vouches don't = gruntship but they still can be useful. Since GMs won't be handing out gruntship based on vouching you won't vouch for a friend just because. You'll vouch for a player because you feel that player -is- exemplary. Players simply doing that for other players (without other motives) could lead to the 'better community' you're searching for, free of drama, etc.

Also, I've learned from personal experience that a player you consider 'veteran' publicly reaching out and telling you that you're on the right track definitely leads to you only wanting to work harder at what you're doing and just be as good as you can.

Err... not to whine, I'm glad things are changing for the better, no joke, I think the GMs are doing great, and the people here are amazing, but.... I'm a bit sad, because just as this has come to light, I had my last two vouches pending, and I was looking forward to my gruntship finally, been here since July, so... I got the idea from Mansfield to request that perhaps, perhaps, just maybe I could still get grunted in the old fashion, since I joined when the old rules applied? I guess that's it, me throwing my two cents in.

I am new here too, but I like the sound of this, like today, I rped with I believe three people, that was all I ran into, I don't know if any were grunts, and to be frank I don't care, I rp for the sake of rping, I like the new idea because as others have stated that it allows us to rp more freely rather then have to rp around people who are grunts in order to become full fledged members, one suggestion though, if the level 50 lock out is kept for peons, please lower the xp gain, or allow us to delevel ourselves or something similar. Because combat is also part of rp and it just seems really fast to me and I would hate to have my char get locked out because I was not paying attention and leveled too fast, but again that is just me. Thank you for taking the time to read my long winded post, have fun people.

I support this, but I do have one question.

For people who have prestige class posts, what will they do about those? Are prestige classes null now, or will there be a new process for getting them?

Prestige classes should be unaffected by this.

I was thinking of a questionnaire more in the form of like a multi choice or short answer, what you like/dislike not write me a great thesis, but that is a valid point none the less, but they have a few ways to do it, I guess we will see what they have in mind when they decide to tell us, I say remain open until we see what exactly the questionnaire will be like.

So does that mean we're still limited to one Prestige class as before? Or will you allow us to have another one etc, etc. I'm also curious, will we be allowed to write a special profile already claiming the title, or will everyone have to do the story posts, regardless?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I'm just curious, is all.

If there are any specific changes to prestige titles, we'll let you know. Otherwise, assume they work the same for grunts as they did before.

I support getting back to the basics, especially #3.

I also enjoy the attention to the Grunts as a whole. It like a rubik's cube. For most it's a harmless challenge and makes you feel special with you line every color up just right. For others however, it's just another system to cheat.
