Prestige Classes

If anyone becomes some kind of steel-person, just get yer diamond cuttin' choppas and and grind'im up! And, i'm wondering..

Why do the Sisters of Steel get to transform into a STEEL form, anyway? Steel isn't even found in nature to my knowledge XD but that really is a small detail I suppose.

It doesn't specifically say Steel. It actually says you can go with either Rock or Metal.

And it's like that primarily because it's a group of female blacksmiths I would guess. Since they deal with metal a great deal, that can explain that aspect. The rock could come from a sideline of mining to acquire metal ore.

I only assumed steel because of the name of the organization. My apologies.

Can you choose what kind of metal or stone you turn into, or change it after? If so...

If it is any metal, then that raises even more questions. A body made out of saronite, corrupting the minds of everyone around you? Out of thorium, laughing as the weapons of your enemies bounce off of you? Any stone? Irradiating everyone when you turn into a solid chunk of Polonium-210?

It could be overpowered ICly, if I chose a lot of character conflict RP, which I wasn't really planning on doing anyways.

Any conflict with other players would probably be spar at best. But thatall means that the GMs would have to trust the player, but overall I would still need to get a profile approved several times before it could work out.

Since it's not really listed one would think that any metal or stone could suffice. Though given the nature of the class, obviously some stuff would just not work out.

Quote:Skin of Steel (Su): The sister of steel has skin like
steel. She gains a +6 natural armor bonus to AC. Her
skin looks to be made of steel or rock, and indeed at
least part of her body is a form of rocky and/or metallic
flesh. The sister of steel's weight doubles. At 5th level, it
doubles again.

That's one ability, which is lists steel. But then you also have the metallic flesh, which probably also means steel.

Quote:Steelflesh Ascendance (Ex): At 10th level, the
sister of steel surpasses her mortality and becomes
a being of living stone and metal. Her type changes from
humanoid to elemental. She gains immunity to poison, sleep
effects, paralysis and stunning. She is not subject to critical hits at all. She no longer needs to eat, sleep or breathe. Her weight doubles (in total, she weighs eight times her original weight).

And here it just has living stone and metal. So I think there is probably some leeway, but most likely steel is the typical choice.

Another limitation of the class is in regards to resurrection.

Quote:Unlike most other living creatures, the sister of steel no longer has a dual nature — her soul and body form one unit. If she is slain, no soul is set loose. Spells that restore souls to their bodies, such as raise dead, reincarnate and resurrection, don't work on her. It takes a different magical effect, such as limited wish, wish, miracle or true resurrection, to restore her to life.

Holy shamoley O_O This should be something saved for truly epic levels. EIGHT TIMES Her origional weight? That alone is freaking rediculous. If she charges at a steam engine with just her body, don't be suprised if it gets a pretty dent and pushed back a few meters! Guessing that she is about 150 lbs, a dwarf, she would weigh about 1200 lbs. Okay, so if the siege tank was stationary it would get pushed back XD but you get my point. Then there is the fact that she is incredibly hard to cut without some kind of harder weapon - like say, a blade made of diamond. A magical blade or even obsidian may work too, though, i'm not really sure what exactly her density/structure would be - i'm guessing suprisingly high due to her small stature yet immense weight, it it WOULD take a magically-sharpened blade or a diamond blade to cut someone like that.

I don't see an extreme issue with having a kind of ability that takes concentraition to keep a more refined, longer-duration of the dwarves' stone body [[obviously called Steelbody XD]], but anyone who has this prestige class would really need to be trusted by GMs and players both.

EDIT: Lawl! Technically you could just use your arms like a club as an ascendant. Judging that your central body takes up 1/2 of your weight and your arms about 1/4th, [[leaving the head out of the equasion I guess]], your arm would probably weigh around 150 lbs or such. Thats enough to count as a pretty damaging bulodging [can't spell it D:] weapon, wouldn't it?

EDIT 2: The no-resurrection sounds cool.. though I wonder, if your body dies, and your soul is now one with your body... what happens to your conscience? o-o

I doubt one would be able to cut or stab someone made of metal or stone. Rather, blunt force would be able to damage her, the damage ranging from cracking, chipping, denting or no effect at all. It depends on the amount of force used.

Edit: Healing would not work, would it? Natural regeneration and holy magic would not affect someone made of living stone, no?

From what it said in the guide, ultimately you get 10/magic damage reduction at the highest level.

If I remember correctly, that means only magical weapons could harm the character, and then only the first 10 points of damage are negated.

PCs like that are very controversial. And if the GMs say no, then the answer is.. well, no. It's the best way to avoid drama.
