In Character Economy

Heh, true. I'm just saying, it does add to the realism of CotH. I'm sure you'll still be able to get around without really participating in all of it.

A bold move, CoTHian overlords!

Now we can sit back and watch this unfold.

May it work as intended!

Kudos to those who devised such a system!

For it has rekindled my spirits for role-playing my beloved Friedrich!

What about characters that aren't really city-dwellers, but more like treasure hunters who make money that way? There are other scenarios that come to mind too: characters that are better off because of their history, characters that come across money somewhere in the world, ect. Looking back at the old way of making money, I see ups and downs when compared to the new one.

Also, would anything bought from an NPC ICly be paid for by these coins?

What about characters that have two professions? Such as a blacksmithing mercenary?

Erm...

I don't get it

What if you have a character history of... Him/her being a noble or something?

He would have a lot of money, no?

This confuses me greatly. :|

Though it's still a nice thing, I suppose. :B

It will take some time for the economy to get moving. There are no NPCs that take this coin, but I am looking into it perhaps I will make a bartender  you'd all like that right?

No one said this was limited to city folk. Is treasure hunting not a business, or is arena fighting, or even thieving not a business? If, say you have an idea for a treasure hunt that will involve a group of players and provide fun RP, ask for money to be at the end or you set up a tournament you could ask for money for the rewards.

You guys are taking the wording for "Business Application" to literally, I just thought it sounded better than "Beg for Gold Application". We don't like to give something for IC nothing. But if you are out there in the world making CotH a better place to RP in then that is not nothing.

And one last thing remember you are asking the GMs to go out of there way to read these and work with you one these. Be polite and don't beg or be whiney it will only make this a chore that wont get done.

Oh, I see no reason for you to worry really. I cannot imagine this going to work in all transactions serverwide. It will be around to spice up RP for that involves businesses. The term 'IC gold/OOC noffin' can still work very well.

Man, this is finally happening! I'll be honest, I was very angsty and elitist about how people spent like... 50 gold ICly, and I always assumed that even ten silver was a lot of money. Needless to say, thank you very much for doing this.

Ah, if only Jabtok were here to reap the benefits.. he'd be one rich troll. :p

/clap is all I can say! But still, Bovel asked a good question - what about copper?

I think copper is such a small amount of money that it's not really all that needed.

Is it?

Your character can always have a copper or few in his pocket.

I would like to add a suggestion that might be interesting for later use:

What if you could also perform a daily quest for X shop or Y NPC and obtain a small amount of in-character money each day? It would involve making an item with whatever profession you have.
It would figuratively put the rest of the population into the economic loop, and make it easier for people who prefer jobs with stable times and requirements, or don't like the jobs currently offered.

Of course, this would have to be countered by ways to take money out of the economy (via NPC shops or exchanges) since this might lead to inflation, but it's still an interesting concept.

What'd be a normal amount to ask for if my character has the remains of an old fortune? 10g? 1000g? I'm not too sure how the IC gold relates to the OOC gold. E.g. a Horse is 10g OOC, is it roughly the same IC?

Also how much would it cost to buy a disused bar? I had planned to open a Gentlemen's Club in SW in an empty bar in the Park district, but there wasn't enough interest in the idea to continue. I'm still IC friends with one of the security guards, and I've said IC that my character still owns the bar. How much would it be to buy it IC instead of just declaring ownership?
