In Character Economy
#31
- How do we reflect a character being rich(er)? [When the character has been approved as such through a profile] Do we just ticket indicating that? If not-
(Perhaps being able to exchange Silver Tokens for gold?)

(I.E. If our noble character wants to hire staff, would we have to make a ticket for gold to do this, or...?)

- Can we get a guide to basic prices? Ten staple prices would do...
(Does Anski's Guide to the Copper, Silver and Gold apply perhaps?)

I think that guide could be used.

But it doesn't really matter that much, people are going to price things.

Just to note, after some discussion with DW, I've decided to bump up the starting amount to 10 gold pieces, instead of 1. Existing currency has been removed from everyone's inventories, and you'll have to revisit Hubert in WSG to get your gold again.

I'm not sure if this has already been said, or if what I'm going to say is relevant at all, but I'm going to try my luck here. Wouldn't it be more realistic to have 1 silver = 10 copper, and 10 silver = 1 gold? And perhaps 100 gold pieces could be the equivalent of a gold bar? If this idea's been addressed before then pardon me, I must have missed something somewhere >< I was just thinking that if my character had a coin purse, I wouldn't want it to be easily picked or be a 'distracting factor', and if the ratio is 100:1, I'd need a pretty big coin purse >.>

Assuming that forgery is out of the question, is there a specific 'seal / stamp' on the coins? I mean, anyone (well, not -everyone-) would be able to get hold of some ore and fashion a coin out of it, so ICly, is there a method the currency / economy is handled or is this meant to spice up RP without the irritating complexities? Sorry for the questions, heh =)

Not really, because that would throw all of the established currency and economic things into the air.

Copper = Cents
Silver = Dollars
Gold = 100 Dollars

That's pretty much how it is. So say you have 50 coins, that's 50 dollars right there, and considering this is a primarily monarchial and feudal economy based on bartering just as much as trade with state currency, you wouldn't ever have the need to carry around even more than thirty or forty of those bad boys on a daily trip.

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Does this mean people can organize hunting trips (Relying on /roll combat with ample difficultly) for various game (wolves, tigers, bears, ect.) and sell the spoils? (Based on what the GM says it's worth.)

What about the spoils of war from combat missions (IE: Lionheart Champions/Bloodsworn Honorguard) - Considering time is taken to loot enemy corpses, would they count?

I have a suggestion for you, Because everyone will probably just roll a rich person. Then when they have to pay something on their main theyl say that their rich char will pay it. How would you stop that?

And 1 suggestion, with jobs and such I think that just giving a starting amount for their business and then just let the players move the cash around. Because everyone would spam the bartender job untill they got the quest done.

... I don't think everyone would roll a rich person.

At least, I myself don't like rich persons at all. And it's RP? What the crap would you... -Why- would you send money to another character without a reason, really? And, if this would become a problem, I don't think there would really be a way to stop it.

raeg.

There is no real conversion rate from USD to Azeroth's copper, silver, and gold pieces. If I can scrounge up my old WarCraft RPG books, then I can find a lil' chart on general goods and services that says whut i meens (I seem to recall a loaf of bread being, like, five coppers or something. I wish it was that cheap where I live.)

How exactly does the business thing work? Because gryphons would cost quite the bit of gold. And in a business such as Armored Gryphon Co. I need riders and flying mounts to be able to conduct the business. And even ground mounts would cost a bit of gold. So how exactly am I supposed to know how much I should ask for my business?

(From that business thing on the original post)

If I were running an Armored Gryphon Co. I'd only hire people who had their own gryphons already, because they're the ones who are more likely to have been trained in Gryphon-back combat. *sagenod*

Correct. But remember that the majority of players even those whom are lvl 80 don't Icly have a mount nor the training for it. And a guild member scouted out the perfect training ground for it in Northrend. But it'd Icly be a day's climb. OOCly you just fly up.

And my character has a few Gryphons he can Icly spare but since everyones always too busy chatting in booty bay, theres no time to ride gryphons!

My character is attempting to raise the ranks through training. Such as being able to shoot while flying about. Anwho, since nobody has flying mounts Icly I'll Icly be glad to train them while raging at the screen from which im playing. ^.^

That chart was posted on the forums somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

So would you guys say that enough people have actually been -spending- their starting gold? I know it's still early, but we do need to actually spend the gold we've been given to start with if we expect to start seeing returns on it in the future. Can't really get an economy going if you're not gonna use the cash.
