Typing... Typing... Typing...!

Okay okay... this seems I'm starting to get a little to hot headed over this, so let me just state some stuff before it goes further...

1: I am not attempting to make this a competition, only stating it will make us that much better for those who do choose to try out the server.

2: I agree this will be alot of work, but it will be a nice improvement.

4: I accidentally Skipped 3 somehow...

---
But anyways, I agree that it will be a lot of work... But nothing good ever came to you freely, something always has a string connected to it...

Humm.

What Piroska said.

Quote:While I applaud looking for ways to actively improve, I think that this is an example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The time and effort spent in getting this to work would most likely not equal the return. Cost-benefit analysis, baby!

I, too, would want this.

But it just seems a little bit too much to ask from the GMs, since it still is a bit unnecessary, and can be done in other ways. As in, asking the player OOCly if he/she's writing or so.

Ahh... I just instantly assumed that was about it being a competition. So, it's Azheron The Derailer. Sorry about that.

Quite alright hun, I was just defending myself... Natural instinct... kinda picked it up through my life >.> but Anehwhay'...

But by doing this it would mean a few different things may happen...

1: They would delete what they put that work into to say "yes"... kinda wasted extra time...
2: Some people are slower typers, Inhibitor for example is like my bestest friend in the community, despite her slow typing speed XD

3: I actually got three this time rather then skipping it randomly!

You don't really say "Yes", you just keep writing and don't answer.

If you're not writing, you say "No."

I won't say anything to the slow typing speed thing, since I have never experienced that.

But I still think it would be great, it's just that it's so damn hard.

It's... Really just a minor annoyance when this happens. All it takes is respect and logic to realize that the other character is going to respond to yours in a normal amount of time. You can wait the ten seconds for them to type it out without posting four more emotes, I'm sure.

o.O Really? Anyway, I was pretty much agreeing with you when I said that. It'd be nice to have, but it's not worth the massive effort whatsoever.

Some of us like to make it as exact to how we want it to play out as possible... so we write long exact Emotes to it... It's very hard to do this though if we have someone who is impatient... I sometimes take a while to type... and I can type over 120 words a minute...

Yes, and getting interrupted while typing that long post is just a minor annoyance. I know this because I often like to type long emotes as well, and sometimes people do post while I'm typing. All I'm saying is that it's not worth putting tons of effort into complex programming just to solve a very minor problem that very few people... Actually seem to care about. No offense meant to those who do care, but it's really not worth spending so much time and effort on, in my opinion.

I loves you, Azheron! You're my buddy.

A cost-benefit analysis is a tool that can be applied in the business world to see if a project is worth doing. Basically, you do a lot of guessing. You guess how much it will cost to do the project. You guess how many people you will need (people who will be unable to do anything else and also people who may need to be hired to complete the project). You guess how long it will take. And then, once you do all of that, you estimate how much benefit you will get from completing the project.

It doesn't really matter which method you use; essentially, you want the benefit to be higher than the costs, otherwise you're just wasting time, money, and resources. However, you need to be fair and accurate in order to make it work; if you let your hopes or optimism dictate your assessments, the tool won't work.

While typing I just hold Shift and either hit the Home button or hold the left arrow key until all of the text written is highlighted. This means that you have selected all of the contents in the textbox. A quick Control-C will copy what you have written. Toss your quick reply to whoever whispers you, open up the textbox again, and hit Control-V to paste what you had copied.

I cheat anyway. I tend to have AIM or vent open at the same time, so that I can toss off a quick reply if needed there. Also, be a chessplayer: plan the next two or three moves ahead. I keep Notepad open and sometimes I jot down things that I would say, depending on what happens. This way, I can copy, paste, and move forward quickly.

Why's it seem everyone is only looking towards the negativity of this...

YES
It is going to be a lot of effort.... but... apparently I have to do this once more...

But erm, about the "Yes" problem, just don't answer. They'll realize that you're writing, and thus not answering, probably.
