Mind Control via Arcane
#16
IMHO The addiction does not need to be strong enough to force a person into doing something or to control their mind - It just needs to be strong enough to influence them. Used at the right moment a lightly to mildly addictive lure might be quite effective. (and oocly a player might be more receptive to something thats less forceful) There are many things that could be considered addictive or lightly addictive... attention, love, money, power(Authority over othres),prestige, etc..
- Cepht -

Randian - Sin'dorei Priest, Representative of Greystone Charities
Riley Gillespie aka "Stars" - Unhinged forsaken vagabond with a flare for fire
Alonus - Fallen holy priest with a pet serpent named "Ricky"
Haugus Bach - Forsaken Warlock with an appetite for torture and revenge. Previously a humble shoe maker.

Quote:The only thing that I can think of (that may not even be viable, mind!) would be to create an extremely potent form of Arcane that would be substantially more desirable than other readily available forms of Arcane. If that could be obtained, I'm certain that some would become addicted to this new drug and then find that the minor high gained from lesser forms would have less effect.

Maybe something like... Fel?

A cabal of warlocks and witches summoning demons for the purpose of "collecting" fel energy could be a rather interesting thing to see, having them use it to fuel their schemes in various ways, selling it as a blackmarket mana source or drawing on it for themselves to summon even more powerful demons... or any number of things.

Just because the Sunwell is back, doesn't mean they aren't addicted. That's like, giving a cigarette smoker a cig after they've not had one for a few weeks and saying "Gee, you don't have withdrawls anymore, YOU MUST NOT BE ADDICTED!"

Seriously, read the wiki articles guys, not -once- does it say they are cured. Not. ONCE.

But mind control via Arcane doesn't work. MANIPULATION maybe, but that's like using drugs to control someone, rather than it being actual mind control.

The fel would be very possible, given that the race originally turned to fel sources and that -- more than anything -- is what their physical changes from the quel'dorei is attributed to. It is often considered more potent than the Arcane.

Fel blood (even old and diluted) is very addicting. People who have imbued fel blood need to have it every day or else they suffer from withdrawal symptoms. I think that the roleplaying game stipulates that after seven days of withdrawal, a character is able to roll to see if he is still addicted to it. I think.

I've been interested in pursuing a similar vein but instead by having a demonic cult for quite some time. I've put it on the backburner, though.

Man, Fel is to Arcane what Crack is to Cigarettes, really. The hardest part of a fel addiction is the eventual spiral into demonhood.
