Parallel universes and half forgotten dreams....
#1
Now, this is probably going to sound rather odd. Most of you will probably look at me weird not to mention think it's not a good idea but...

What is the policy on half remembered dreams from another reality? As if for example, after the restart there are going to be a lot of story lines that are going to get revamped and/or completely erased. And just like in a tapestry you sometimes are able to keep the whole intact without making everything just unravel but other times it's simply not possible. I know of at least one situation that's like this.

Never the less... what I really wanted to ask is what about that dejavu (sp?) feeling that one can get when meeting someone old/new for the first time and those half remembered dreams that make you feel like there is more to one particular story yet you can no longer remember it's details.

For example...
In my particular case I am finding that by eliminating one part of a story, everything else can't quite fall into place. So I decided to erase that characters story completely till this point and simply start over. Then there is the problem that this same character affected others fairly profoundly that have nothing to do with that one string I pulled.

So what is the policies on these type of situations?

Mainly I ask because last time I tried to safe something like this... It unraveled the fabric of reality and swallowed that which I was trying to protect whole never to come back from the pits of the ever encroaching void...

Also because I know I'm absolutely no good at explaining things...tell me if this just sounds like garble spat out by mad person and...I'll try again *nervous laughter*
That life is like that of a Phoenix...
There are days when you burn...

...and there are days
where you start from your ashes into life...

but this is my face.
The face that I choose,
for my love to take. ~ Aurora Phoenix

Avoid utilizing crutches like parallel universes or visions or anything of the sort. Those -- as you have noted -- can ultimately lead to complications.

What we've advised people to do is communicate with their fellow roleplayers to reach a solution that is acceptable to all parties. If, for example, your character had fairly significant interactions with another character that have now been voided, talk to that character's player. Try to see if you two can come up with a solution that molds these past events into something that flows well, without that one thread that you've removed. Retcon it so that they were childhood friends or acquaintances from some other aspect of their lives or whatever fits to make it work.

If you can't find a specific solution, then that player can retcon the character's history that such an interaction never occurred or, as many others have done, take past events and attribute them to a nameless individual that doesn't exist as a character.
