Somethings that bothers me.

Ghardiak Wrote:But it seems to me that people doesn't want to do some -real- RP, they want ERP. And the GM's can't do nothing about it because if they did a realm called "ERP realm" the population of serious RP realm would go down to a max of... well, 10, if luck is on our side.
Another thing that is bothering me is that, in a near future, we may have Half-Breed races. I mean, if it happened to an Orc or a Troll, It wouldn't strike me as much as a Human with a Belf. WHICH YOU ALL KNOW IT'S TRUE. i've already seen some people RPing Preggers, but my fear is that it bursts out as Half-Blood Preggers soon enough, and, to make it better, it would be with Races in War with each other, such as nelf/Orc. C'mon guys, stop using the excuse of "I wanna be Original u nub" because there's a Difference between being Original and being an OP noob.

Peace, Ghardiak.

Uhh, this is a rather bold claim, especially when there isn't much evidence to it. You're saying that, at best, we have about >15 serious roleplayers on the server. I guess you might be tossing numbers around, but you're saying the rest is ERP? Do you know what ERP is?

Not to also mention because of the private nature of ERP there's no evidence if such rps are going around you or not. Sometimes you can see two characters sitting next to eachother with no emotes or /say for over twenty minutes, but even then that's no evidence towards ERP(given how I have just sat with a guy in party chat so we could discuss OOC things).

Now it probably likely does happen but I highly doubt that a majority of CotHers are here for that and there's no way you can prove it otherwise.

Edit: I wanna address the preggers bit too but a bit more quickly.

1) Trolls can not cross with any of the races, with the exception if I recall being a dark troll with NElf, even then none of us would be able to play dark trolls.

2) There have been children born of both factions in lore. There's actually a draenei/orc. Most hybrid pregnancies like this though were not consensual.

3) If -we- can't be hybrids then I don't think we'll be allowed to conceive hybrid children ICly.

4) And I think it's good to have some pregnant characters around. Some of the races(Draenei, Blood elf) are actually quite few in numbers and it would make sense for some to try and "replenish their numbers." I think so long as the preggers characters handle it maturely it's alright.

Time to drop the bombs, then.
Anyhow, I too joined approximately 1 year ago, and when I did, I made the most foolish character I ever had, a BE female, fighter in the arena, runaway from home, and the worst issue: Her relationship with another -female- -Draenei-.
Now I ain't proud of that, neither is the other player, after a month or so we overlooked the matter, and we were all like
"Damn.. We messed up"
So we retconned the whole thing. Never Happened.
There are many cases that simply outrageous, but some cases are forgiven and well appreciated in the community, Example given:
Exiled Night Elf DK, pairing for -professional- goals with a rather mentally-unstable "Feral" Blood Elf.
As for other races of the Alliance, I believe it is more than logical for them to be normal with the BEs, seeing that their leaving is recent.
There is always the whole "You called us traitors!" thing that BEs have against the Alliance, BUT, A. Not all members of the Sin'Dorei community, or the Alliance, are deeply political, and believe in that. and B. If you find -anyone- that is so political and patriotic to his nation, they won't be in them RP hubs, AKA Ratchet, Booty Bay and so on, they would be in their kingdom where they feel like they belong.

Death: TRUE. But you may always get away with it, if you can actually write it well. But one can avoid death only so many times. If fate wants you dead, you dead, kid. Accept your character's fate, and wait a week for a resurrection, play your other chars in the meanwhile, or write something, read a book, watch a show. It's not like your, the player, life depends on the very existence of that character. Sure it sucks that your little bastard is gonna get beheaded for making everybody hate him.
C'est la vie, people.
Life ain't easy, the fact your character's life is -virtual- does not mean you should not make it -realistic-. Relations between one another are the same in World of Warcraft, as they are in your personal area. You want people to like you, and don't want a gun-barrel stuck at your neck by a psychotic assassin who wants nothing but his next paycheck, which means your head? Be nice. Stop being egoistic. And if you -must- die, you -must- die.

Dwarves: The hell you talking 'bout? Seriously. Not opening this one up.

is RPing a non-hetero character really that big a deal? i mean, do people actually think less of you for doing that? i don't entirely understand why, unless the person doing it is just dominating the roleplay with talking about their sexuality and flirting with everything that moves, but that's obnoxious even if you're straight. right?

I haven't been on the server recently, so I don't know if things are bad or not, but we used to have some seriously bad ERPing going on. Not long ago you could not walk through Ratchet without reading about some Nelf/Belf/Draenei lesbo three-sum.

And before that glistening lesbos...So much glistening.

Most members of the Sin'Dorei community are deeply patriotic. And the Humans of Stormwind already have High Elves and even Half Elves to flirt with instead. Of course, it isn't impossible, but cases of romance sparking between Blood Elves and any of the Alliance races would be very isolated, I reckon.

I definitely agree with your second point though, that patriotic characters would not accumulate in places like Booty Bay or Ratchet. And if for some reason they had to, it would only be momentary and with a "business only" attitude.

^ The reason I never hardly go to Ratchet.

I think I should just interject into this argument with historical info about plate: It's not as heavy as you'd think. You only need a relatively thin sheet of metal to turn aside the slash of a blade, and mail underneath to stop a piercing stab, so most plate armor (Aside from jousting plate, which is what we most commonly have an image of from movies over the years) is actually in the range of 45 pounds, which is less than the average United States Army soldier wears to protect himself.

A trained wearer can swim (With great difficulty) or sprint or climb in plate armor, just as most soldiers today are trained to run and climb and perform their varied duties with a heavier kit.

Now I ain't saying Homosexual Roleplay is a bad thing, I'm saying that when -my- blood elf chick gets it on with someone else's -Draenei- chick, it was time to pull the plug.
A. Draenei are near extinction. So having a mate that ain't going to bring you any babies, is frowned upon by the community of Draenei.
B. Seriously. Blood Elves, and Draenei. It's like having Akama having romantic relations with Illidan. It was fun, and new, yes. But there comes a time when you gotta put down "Fun" and "New" and pick up "Logical".
I mean, the fact this is a big game of "Pretend" does not mean that you -have- to pretend to be completely illogical.

I believe that every player here has his little mental issue and all, and we all are rather... Weird, deep inside, being brought mainly from a Generation of complete chaos.
But seriously. Roleplay is -art-. And I mean. You can write a song about how much gold and girls you got and how you enjoy them (to avoid severe use of ghetto terms.) and people will call that art.
Or you can write a poem about how the world is beautiful and how heaven is at your grasp just because you found that one woman who you care more than just getting her to your bed.

Art is art. But it doesn't mean you can just go berserk with it.

There really shouldn't be. We have rules against harassing people over sexuality, and if anyone is making an insulting OOC comment, you're free to report them for breaking that rule.

That said, in an ironic twist, most of the negativity is directed more towards lesbianism than male homosexuality, due to most lesbian characters being seen as just a way for a straight guy to get ERP with less male characters involved.

I forgot to mention another topic raised here...death. Seriously guys, you have control over when your own character dies. No one should be dying unless you either give consent for it, or you do something blazingly stupid.
Have you hugged an orc today?

Sorry, but I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on the BE stuff, Sunday. This isn't an isolated thing that's being talked about here, it's very widespread, meaning that a -lot- of people feel that it's tolerable. This means that these characters are not only transcending literally thousands and thousands of years of hate, betrayal, and war, but they are also apparently "morally high" enough to be be one of a few, even including lore figures, to extend their hands to other races?

I honestly have to say I don't buy it, to the point of where I feel I can't ecknowledge the people that do this on a constant basis. If I do, I feel that I'm the odd man out by making characters who -aren't- tolerant, and go by the norm of their race's standards, and after everything that's been stated in this thread, all the reasons that it SHOULDN'T happen... I think it's very wrong for me to feel that way.

As for professional goals, I can slightly understand that, however, given the opinion of Nightelves on DKs to begin with, I think associating yourself with a Bloodelf would be quite risky. To the point of being found treasonous by your own people.

I'm gonna be blunt. I'm sick of people claiming the special snowflake clause, they a-typical "well it could happen" claim. It's -soiled- the RP here as far as I'm concearned. CoTH is great, but everyone being so damn tolerant all the time just doesn't make any sense. And you know what this all leads to? These giant RPs that take place in Booty Bay and -Go Nowhere-.

Seriously, if this is just becoming a social gathering and not an actual roleplay with strife, war, and prejudice... maybe people should stick to actual socializing.

Edit: Jesus, you guys like to swarm post. And I've RPed non-hetero characters before, it's not a big deal at all.

oh, i see! you were talking about the fact that the belf was intimate with- yeah, i get ya.
that's no problem, as long as people can provide a good lore-based reason why playing a LGBT is not very accurate, i can accept that.

Quote:There really shouldn't be. We have rules against harassing people over sexuality, and if anyone is making an insulting OOC comment, you're free to report them for breaking that rule.

there was no harrassment, but i have seen people make snarky comments about it. not to me, just because the subject turned onto that topic.

Well, that said DK is already past caring to what her people think of her, seeing she ain't going home, for like.. Ever, and when Exiled from your own home, you're pissed enough to do just 'bout anything, Illidan being a fine example.

As for non-hetero RP. The hell with it. It's -fun-. Not only the Female, the Male too, I mean, it's unique, it's fresh, it's out there, bold.
This is the stuff that makes revolutions happen. Which is pretty damn awesome.
People seem to forget: Your gender in the real world means absolutely -nothing- in game. Your character is a completely different individual, with their own personalities and opinions, -you-, as a player, are only their way to break free.

Think I'll hop off this thread before I start saying inappropriate things.
Toodles, children!

P.S.:
Snarky comments? If OOC: Their problem. They don't like it? They should learn to deal with it, as far as they can know, their neighbors may be non-hetero's themselves. Seriously, from personal experience, you can -never- know who is attracted to who. Seriously.

Despite how cumbersome medieval armor is portrayed you can actually move quite freely in it. The romans trained special units for "amphibious" assaults and it was said these men could swim in plate armor for over 40 minutes.

To be quite honest, I don't see the reason for this thread even beeing up. Alot of the issues you are trying to address have been brought up -numerous- times here on CotH. I mean, this is almost identical to one I saw six months ago. :O

First, about Blood Elves and Night Elves. There is no reason whatsoever that they should be getting along. But what exactly are you trying to do by posting it here, besides getting the community's opinion on the matter? I think it's quite obvious the majority of us dislike this sort of thing, but that won't solve a thing. IF you see a Night Elf and a Blood Elf sharing a cup of tea. Why don't you try respectfully whispering them? Try to educate them on the matter? Point them in, yet again a respectful way towards Rensin's racial relations guide? What's the worst that can happen? Sure, they can say "Yes but there are unique instances just like IRL where two people get along even though they shouldn't!". Well, if they say that, screenshot it. PM a GM and something will be done. It's not against the rules persay, but it's just generally bad RP. You shouldn't get angry at people because they don't know how to RP. When I joined CotH, my first character was a Blood Elf Huntard named Kaelvan who chilled in Ironforge all day and acted like he was friends with just about every Alliance race, Night Elves included! (Except Maeven, who used his dog to kill me D:) You should try to help them become better RPers, so that they don't fail so much.

Now, regarding eRP. No matter what you do, even if you put a rule up against it. It's going to happen. It happens on just about every RP server out there with more then a few people on it. As long as they do it in a party in a place that isnt out in the open where people can find them. Who really cares if they play a heterosexual or a homosexual character? It's their character to play, not yours. You may be insulted ICly for your sexual preferance, but as Grakor said if you recieve any OOC comments that you feel are made simply because of your sexuality, take screenshots and report it.

Finally, dwarves in platemail. There is honestly a point where being nitpicky about realism is acceptable and a point where it's going above and beyond what you need to nitpick about. Sure, it's not realistic. You could try and whisper them and sugercoat your words and try to convince them that it's quite hard to climb in plate and it would make more sense to take it off. But really, what's the point? There's alot of things in Warcraft that aren't realistic, who are we to say a Dwarf can't Climb in plate? Why does it even matter? Sure, if he starts doing acrobatics and begins ninja'ing around then you should probably take screenshots and report said person, or explain that's not feasibly possible via sugercoating your words. But simply.. climbing? It's -not- that big of a deal. I think people are putting their standards a bit too high on realism.

That's just my opinion on the subject, atleast. Sorry if I went off-topic anywhere.

EDIT: Oh yes. Character's dying. Well, here's my take on the subject. I also enjoy playing on every single one of my characters, but I honestly can't find them to be all that fun if they don't atleast have a 50/50 chance of living/dying. I mean, I don't even see why people would want to back out of a fight simply because they can die. Unless their character is ICly a coward it would technically be metagaming for them to simply leave because they don't want to die. But alas, rules are rules and if they don't consent there is nothing you can do. Your best bet would be to try and explain this to them, that even if their character dies. Who cares? It's one character, they can make a new one. But some enjoy them to the point that they either don't want to make a new one or are too lazy to and in that case there is very little you can do. As hard as you may try, if people don't want to give up their characters we can't do anything but move on and RP with others. It does suck a little, but /shrug.

In any case. The moral of the story is, we have Game Masters and Administrators for a reason. They are not here to simply stand around and look cool ( cause they all look like nubs, cause they are ). But they are here to help you. So help them help you, if you see something that you don't think is possible or possibly breaks the rules, take screenshots and send them to one of the Enforcer GM's! That's what they are here for, to enforce. Even if it isn't against the rules, if you simply feel its innapropriate or is ruining the Roleplay, Screen-shots. You need to help GM's help you by doing this. D:

Well, obviously this thread is accomplishing something. It's three pages long, and is actually an interesting discussion on people's takes. However, I think the people posting in here aren't the problem... and in which case, the people in this post may -wish- to do as others have said. Maybe, use this philosiphy?
